  1. You will find that many people take multiple arts to round out thier skills. TKD produces great kicks , however lacks the upclose fighting/grappling a OKINAWIAN or JUJITSU stylist will have. The KATA breakdown is often where this is learned several styles will have the same KATA, yet have completly differant techniques for the movements. What will look like a down strike, one style will use as a wristlock , while another will use it as a throw/takedown. I think you will enjoy the change in the appraoch to the fight KENPO will give you.
  2. The RyuKyu's are a small chain of islands located between Japan and China. The largest and most famous of these islands is Okinawa. Because of their strategic location as trading center for both China and Japan, the Ryukyus were greatly influenced by both the Chinese and Japanese cultures. RyuKyu Kempo is a system of martial arts that has roots in both; the Okinawan "TE" (HAND) system and the Chinese Kempo (FIST WAY). Thus RyuKyu Kempo is a blend of the old Okinawan and Chinese martial arts. The uniqueness of RyuKyu Kempo can be seen in the "hard style" training with power and emphasis on makiwara training. DILLMAN learned pressure points from SIEYU OYATA http://www.ryushu.com/oyata.html for a short time, however he went on to market them and sell seminars on instant knockouts and such . there is much more than that to the art
  3. agreed that perhaps " heavy chinese " should have been chinese. I have heard several versions of the KEMPO history, and the one thing that seems to stay is that it was a mix of the OKINAWIAN " te " mixed with techniques taught by chinese sailors and diplomats that founbd them selves in OKINAWA. The only time I myself have seen KENPO used is when the owner of the style changed it to make " more complete" and it was always an American who made the change. As always I speak only from my own observations and do not claim anything but opinion.
  4. stepping outside a punch on a 45 degree brushing the punch past the using a hammer fist to the head. straight out of niahachi kata, followed by a spinning back kick to the gut.
  5. KEMPO is an OKINAWIAN art with heavy CHINESE influences. KENPO is the american hybrid Ed Parker learned in HAWAII
