  1. Ha Ha, I beat you at 49.. Welcome
  2. I prefer (and so do the judges) Juka or Tokaido (Dragon) for tournaments,12 to 14 oz ,they have Gold, 14oz, Silver or Emerald 12oz, or the lighter Bronze at 10 oz. I like the lighter weights for actual training.
  3. Belated Happy Birthday Lori
  4. I compete under the sanctions of NASKA, ISKA, FAME, and FLMA here in Florida
  5. How about Cardio-Kickboxing I don't run any more since I brew out the meniscus in my left knee, so no more shock absorber
  6. I believe your right Moobrack (WTF), I've seen tournaments that restricted hand techniques all together, just leg strikes with knock - outs exceptable
  7. Try this site. http://www.napmasearch.com/
  8. I always say "Do what you want to my wife, but leave me alone"
  9. Welcome to the forum
  10. Just turned 49 on November 20th youth and strength are no match for wisdom and treachery
  11. Oh Yea, the stalker returns, these practitioners will usually weaken under CQC (Close Quarter Combat) , sometimes I need to drop down in my stance, get in close, work the body with upper cuts, maybe a spinning back kick or two, kill the body and the head will die
  12. Well said indeed
  13. Sometimes I'll starch my Gi/Dobok (14 ounce cotton) Juka's, for tournaments just for the sound effects, I'm not cheating really
  14. I have been to a lot of tournaments, and it's not only the weapons divisions that display (sometimes) the extremely long and loud Kia's, the only time I was instructed to do em is halfway through the kata and at the end..fini..I agree with the others as far as the way were taught and getting the attention of the judges, I also got a sneaky suspicion that it can be used to catch your stamina back in lieu of the the actual physical movement of the forms performance...
  15. Welcome Henry
  16. One of my favorite kicks, I use it to pull the guard down of an opponent when sparring, as far as the power is concerned, I find it can be very explosive when breaking no more than two pine boards for myself, I can get the momentum up after about 20 practice throws
  17. My understanding is that the WTF (World TKD) association utilizes the palgwe/taeguek poomse or kata/forms and the ITF (International TKD) uses the hyung's. The kata I learned from white to Black Belt candidate are as follows, w/ English translation: Tan Gun = Legendary Founder of Korea To San = Philospher & Educator Yol Kuk = Confucious of Korea Toi Gye = Penname of a Noted Scholar Choi Gye = Iron Horse Hwa Rang = Korean Youth Movement to unite the 3 Kingdoms of Sila Chung Moo = Admiral of the 1st Armored Korean Battleship Kwan Gae = 19th Emporer of the Kookaroo Dynasty and finally... Bat Sai (Bassai Dai) = Breaking thriugh the Fortress now of course a lot the spellings, translations and movements are similar to other styles and disciplines...I love em all...except for Chung Moo( for me it's was and is a pain in the A _ _ to learn and perform). I guess my fav would be Bat Sai (Bassai Dai), I like the way it moves, the tempo, and the mixture of pauses and then intense explosive moves, which I think all kata's should be performed in the hard hitting disciplines, especilly TKD, Shotokan, Kempo's ecetera, blah, blah These comments and opinions are strickly my own views and interpretations, I may be mistaken on some things, if I am, please let me know, thanks. _________________ http://community.webshots.com/user/jakmak521 [ This Message was edited by: jakmak52 on 2001-12-05 14:55 ]
  18. For me anger is a deterent to my focus and concentration, especially during a fight, when emotions get involved it effects my technical performance as well as my stamina and endurance, anger is so exhausting, whew.. besides it's not a personal thing to me, strictly business
