  1. What types of stretches do you guys recomend for kicking higher, ive heard that a lot of Taekwon do emphasises on high kicks. Is this true ? I was thinking of Joining an international taekwon do club in town. Not sure if Tae Kwon do is for me though.
  2. attacking the driver of a moving vehicle is a good way to get killed. remember you are not james bond.
  3. When you are holding a dumbell close to the body you are using your shoulders bi-cepts, brachi, and forearms to keep the weight there. If you hold the dumbbell straight out in front of you, you are only using the front of your shoulders to hold the weight up. This is why it is harder to do this. Exactly. When you hold the weight out in front of you are isolating that shoulder muscle. The bag always moves more when you hit the top rather then the bottom. You can push it easier. Power comes from proper skeletal alignment, and that is no bull**** Lets take a look at the one inch punch for example that is not notice how bruce fully extends his arm and twists his hips, its proper skeletal alignment, the one inch punch is not done close in like how you are describing.
  4. I bet a girl could think about other things easily while shes punching that bag with the weighted gloves. Its called multi-tasking and guys generally arnt good at. You can do the same thing with ankle weights go for a walk around the block with them and then take them off and walk back in your house. They feel kind of light, you just tricked your muscles the feeling will wear off. Its called muscle memory. developing a nerve pathway has nothing to do with the added weight, you could punch that bag 1000 times without the weighted gloves and have the same nerve training as you would if you punched it 1000 times with the weighed gloves. If you kept punching with the weighted gloves over a period of say 6 weeks you would put on some muscle and hit harder however always punching with weighted gloves isnt always good because your muscle memory will get acustomed to the added weight and your punches will be off, but after a few days the muscle memory will have adapted and you will still have the added muscle and still hit harder. Also if your punching with a weight in your hand or gripping something even hand wraps you will hit harder, as the human hand is designed for holding on to things not punching. The phalanges & metacarpals do not line up with the bones in your forearm with a empty fist you can notice that the first knucle sticks out further then the rest now if you fill that space in your hand, with say a roll of quarters the phalanges & metacarpals, are in fact now in a perfect line with the two forearm bones.. the Radius & Ulna. You have just made a much more effective striking tool.
  5. Breaking is simply body mechanics. granmasterchen no offense but strongmen already know how to breath properly when they do feats of strength and thats all Chi is breathing. Chi is not some mystical force, if it was then why do powerlifters dominate the bench press, and not Chi masters ? actually it is a large flow of estrogen that makes super moms a 90lbs weakling can break lots of stuff without using mystical energy actually a person with adrenal glands will have no problem making adrenaline. Everyone has had the fight or flight syndrome which is the adrenal reaction. Lucky for us we dont need to control it as it is self regulating, when the fight or flight syndrom is over the body releases nor adrenaline which helps calm us down. Ive never heard of a human child being able to walk from birth. Ive never heard of a human child that had full control over there bladder and rectum from birth.
  6. Shaving your legs for less wind resistance is like saying waxing your car makes it go faster. The amount of differnce it would make is just so low i cant think of a word for it. I think people who say they do it for the wind resistance thing simply just like the look of it, but are affraid they wouldnt be manly if they did. Personally as for me I love bein harry!!! WOLF MAN STYLE!!!!
  7. Slap fighting... the new age in martial arts. Sumo's are super fat but I wonder how much endurance they actually have. From what ive heard a 400lb sumo is actually in pretty good shape.
  8. Iron Mike is nuts I would never want to face him in a street fight. Royce Vs. Tyson would be bloody scary.
  9. I use the old style of boxing stance. I like it.
  10. shadow boxing is similar to a kata, in the respect that you arnt really boxing anyone. When I shadow box I throw differnt combinations of punches. Jab,cross, hook, upper cut Uppercut, uppercut ,hook etc. etc. etc. You throw in some foot work some dodging moving around the idea is to break into a sweat. I like to shadow box with 5lb weights in my hands.
  11. Thanks for the info I ended up finding soem more webpages and like you said those were soem tough guys. Apparently the longest ever bareknuckle match lasted 114 rounds and was declared a draw at sunset. And those wernt 2 or 3 minute rounds either they lasted untill someone got knocked down. Now thats endurance! The other interesting bit of information I came across was that Some Doctors believe that bare knuckle boxing is safer then modern professional boxing. There argument is that since you dont hit as hard with a cushioned surface the brain doesnt get knocked around. Sure the bareknuckle punches hurt more and you get cut more but the brain sustains far far less injury. Brain injuries would almost be non existent with bareknuckle boxing. I also found a site with a bunch of moves and stances I still believe the sport form of boxing is great and you can develop lots of power and good physical condition It seems quite easy to be able to switch from a modern glove boxing posture to an old style if you were in a street fight. If anyone else has any other info or comments Id be glad to hear them.
  12. Boxing Gloves. There main purpose is to protect your hands. Because your hands are protected you can throw differnt types of punches, ones which would normally cause hand injury. Now Bare knuckle boxing ive heard is a completely differnt style, and at one point was outlawed as it was to brutal. When someone threw a punch it was a wake up call. I love boxing its great but Im looking to learn the bare knuckle style. I think it would be more street effective. Im sure a lot of the stances and footwork is the same but what are the differences ? Im sure there is some info on this, somewhere on the net. What type of training did the bareknuckle fighters do ? Did they punch heavy bags ? What training aids did they use ie: punching bag, focus mits ,lift big heavy rocks etc. ?
  13. I have to admit I feel more comfertable with boxing over any other martial art. Im Irish. Im Short got red hair, freckles and a bad temper.
  14. crossing the line with Liam Neeson had the most realistic fights in it. I Havnt seen that move in years but one of the fight seens happends to be on the ultimate fights dvd
  15. A lot of claims about Ki are false. Some people are Ki Healers or RiKi Masters or somethin. Jerry Love i think uses Ki to heal people. It may or may not work. But i dont think a Ki healer can magically seal up wounds or remove cancer or repair broken bones. But then again Neither can a Physicatrist and a Physicatrist heals the mentally ill.
  16. Your Joints cracking is the noise caused by the fluid moving from one side to another. Its okay. You wont get arthritis or bigger knuckles or any of that kinda stuff just from cracking your knuckles.
  17. its difficult for 1 person to fight 2. Do you think his friend is just gonna stand there ? Also if you break someones jaw in a fight that may not stop them. So you hit the guy in the face MAYBE break his jaw and then him and his buddy both rush you. Youd end up getting knocked to the ground and both the guys would stomp you till they are bored. Why hit the guy in jaw when you can kick him in the nuts and then run away. Sure you may have lost the fight but your not the guy holding a bag of frozen peas over his nuts the next day.
  18. its not uncommon the muscle is under a lot of strain and is sore. Try and massage and relax it.
  19. boxing have every right to be part of this forum just as any other type of martial art does.
  20. Yeah sumo is a sport but I think would do well in a grappling match like trying to perform any kinds of leg locks or elbow locks would be difficult the guys limbs would be so heavy and you dont got a lot of room to work. Sumo's dont have a lot of strikes but they have that nasty slap!
  21. I dont mean to get you worried but lets face facts. Your toe is most likely broken it will heal but then youll stub it or somethin and it will break again. You just have to learn to adapt to it, you wont kick like you used to it will feel differnt. Ive had a broken toe for a few years now ive talked to doctors about it and they dont really do much to treat a toe.
  22. How do you guys think a Sumo wrestler would do in a fight?
  23. a thug and a bully are more alike then they are differnt. And so the thug does challenge you and you whoop his a$$. The next time that thug gets into a fight and someone stands up to him hes gonna remember that time he got his a$$ kicked and second guess himself. Say your sitting in the bar and this one guy comes up to you smacks you in the back of the head and says "Hey thats my seat!" and you stand up turn around dont see anyone untill you look down. The guy who just smacked you is about a foot shorter then you and weighs about 100lbs less do you think hes gonna smack you again ? or is he more likely to say sorry I thought you were someone else.
  24. sansoouser I completely agree with you. This is why I dislike the idea of having belts for ranking. Attaining a black belt in a martial art used to be quite an impressive thing. Now it has little meaning to me. Blackbelt used to have such a title, people would be like wow your a black belt. Itd be nice to see an instructor give everyone a blackbelt when they started and did the whole belt thing in reverse once youve trained hard for 10 years you can have a white belt or no belt at all.
  25. im surprised arnold did that. lol. I read his book the encylopdia of modern bodybuilding its a great book. Showed a picture of him when he was 16 he sure was no fat boy! But hey if someone paid me to say i used some gimmik product and put my picture on the cover id do it.
