  1. http://www.fightingmaster.com/legends/kanazawa/kanazawa.jpg Kanazawa I got this bit off the one site about him he seems pretty cool. The first All-Japan Karate Tournament was held in Tokyo in 1957. Kanazawa's right hand had been broken at this time, and he was not going to participate. His mother, however, had come in from the country to watch him, and not wanting to disappoint her, he decided to enter in at least one match. A doctor had to follow him around to check on the injured hand and make sure it had not been aggravated in any way after each match. Using his left hand to fake and block and saving his bandaged right hand for the precise moment, he won all matches on clear one-point blows
  2. well i suppose technically they wouldnt be boxers, but what else would you call them, and yes there were fights to the finish thats one of the reasons why boxing or the crazy fighting or whatever you want to call it became illegal. and as for the early ufc's many wonder if royce would have won if he fought emanuel yarborogh in the finals.
  3. I dont think this one has been posted befor. Post one of your styles champions, preferably the one you think was the best ever. Why were they soo good. Please no style bashing Just positive things about your champion.
  4. I think an experinced street fighter would win, not a guy that had any perticular style jsut some thug or bully who fought everyday of his life, but i dont think anyone that harsh exists today. There were some barenuckleboxers back in the 1700's that worked in coal mines all day and fought at night and there were no rules back then they were fights to the finish usally the winner was the guy still alive, im sure there was some guy who has been long since forgotten that no one ever beat and he had no formal training.
  5. Ill add one more thing in. I do like Muay Thai and BJJ I think they are great. Im just trying to support the Karate guys. I myself have never heard of a BJJ fighter or a Muay Thai fighter who has been able to kill a bull with a single punch. I have heard of Mas Oyama and he did just that and he was a karate guy. Seriously though if you guys do know of any other martial artist who could one punch a bull id like to know as Id be interested to read up about them.
  6. I think that it is important for Karate to re-imerge, the 2 most popular arts right now would have to be BJJ and Muay Thai. And I honestly think its the Training required that goes along with them. You get in great physical condition. It took Heilio Gracie decades trying to Prove that his system was the best. Muay Thai is crazy Intense, its part of the Art. If a shotokan fighter was to dedicate the time and training to develope a god hand, it would make quite a difference in a MMA event. Once you get to the higher levels in shotokan you do learn grappling, throws.and takedowns. Heres the problem, a lot of guys will go into a MMA event as soon as they are first dan. This is too soon. If You waited and trained untill you were 3rd 4th or even 5th your skill would be a lot greater. And you would do a lot better in a MMA event. I dont think there has ever been a 5th dan karate ka in UFC befor. Lets Say a 6'4 240lb 5th Dan Karate-ka went into the UFC, hed be pretty scary.
  7. yes there is rivalry, why would Mas Oyama feel it nessisary to defend the honour of karate by fighting Some Thailand kickboxers.
  8. yeah tkd gets bashed way more the karate.
  9. the shotokan would win because by second dan he will know some ground fighting and take downs
  10. sex doesnt really play into the role of the choke, a stronger person could out muscle you, but as for the choke itself when it is properly applied it wont make much difference, however there are some people who naturally have deeper arteries and veins and they wont be as easy to choke out but they still can be.
  11. Advantages/Disadvantages of the two. How do each compare? I know there is quite the rivalry between the two arts.
  12. shotokan is very fast and very powerful. First you get good then you get fast.
  13. okay heres a question how long has the kickboxer been training for and what rank is the shotokan.
  14. since they are both stand up it would depend on the fighter, but if the fighters were both of equal size and skill it would just come down to chance.
  15. Also look at what happend to Van Damme, when Bloodsport and kickboxer were new he was amazing, then he got really hooked on drugs got older, got beat up in a night club etc. Bruce was a great martial artist, but people just need to stop comaparing other martial artists to him.
  16. no they dont sell one there...hehehe
  17. Thats what im saying if soemone does it inproperly then you have a chance but if im fighting my heart is already going to be racing, and if im struggling to get out of a properly executed choke im going to be unconious in a 2-3 seconds now 2-3 seconds isnt a lot of time for you to get out of the hold, even if you did reach down and tried to grab the guys nuts or gouge his eye by the time youve done that your already out. SO like I said befor If I guy gets you in a choke hold and you can feel it, you have two choices tap out or pass out.
  18. So your saying if you perfectly executed a rear naked choke on me I could get out of it ?
  19. you can deffinately feel when someone has applied it properly there is quite a differnce. Thats why you train counters, because they are possible if the technique is not properly exectued.
  20. IF soemone properly exectues a rear naked choke, good luck getting out of it, some chokes you can get out of but thats usually befor the choke has been executed, or it hasnt been properly executed. In a street fight if someone gets you in a properly executed choke you dont really have a choice then if you go unconious or not. If a choke is properly exectued your done.
  21. Seriously Injured ? A lot of people would get killed if you smashed a cinderblock over there head.
  22. Ive never been choked out but have came very close, I dont think its very pleasent, I have never been knocked unconious either.. and frankly I dont want to be. Its is possible to get choked out in less then 10 seconds could happen in 2 or 3, as soon as someone applies a choke on you and you can feel it relax dont fight it and tap out.
  23. There are lots of dark things about Bruce, but everyone has skeletons in there closet. He was very good martial artist, but In my opinion is he is compared with other martial artist way to much. Bruce died in his prime everyone will remember him in his prime. Just think about Elvis when he was in his prime, and how differntly he would be remembered if he died in his prime. Im not bashing Elvis here. He is still the King.
  24. I think there is some grappling involved in the higher ranks of shotokan, im not entirely certaain though as I am knew to Shotokan. I know the basic idea behind it, is one strike and the fight is over. I love grappling I think its good to know but, Shoto_Kan Fighter and Fireka are very dedicated to there arts, and wish to master them. If their sensai's teach them takedown and grappling technique im sure they will do there best to master them.
