stretching
iamrushman replied to defenestration_girl's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
welcome DEFENESTRATION GIRL. stretching is something that takes time and should not be hurried, in order to prevent injury. of course i don't know what your current flexibility status is, but stretching is something everyone here works on constantly, frequently, and before every workout. i'm sure everyone here will give you plenty of advise, but heres a simple exercise to get you started. sit on the floor with your legs spread wide and far as comfortable, while reading or watching television, etc. slowly, and i emphisize slowly, lean forward for a few minutes and the to each side for a few minutes. try to avoid bouncing sharply or quickly, but maybe gently. have patience as with time it will improve. i will leave othe methods and types of stretching techniques for other members in this forum. remember: flexibility takes patience. patience takes understanding. fexibility and patience is the key to understanding life and others. -

one other thought: before we start our usual TKD sport or other MA bashing, let's review the definition of MARTIAL ARTS. MARTIAL: having to do with war or military life; based on MARS, the god of war. ART: rules or methods needed to make or do something, such as skill, an occupation or craft. (craft: cleverness in deceiving others; cunning.) therfore: football/ rugby/ hockey/ et. al. are martial sports that play no roll in street applications either.
-
excuse me; if the person using any marial art does not have the disposition or is overcome by fear at the time......all martial art training is for not and is a moot point at the time. be it in the ring or on the street. that's why we call it training and practice.

iamrushman replied to jackspratt's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
JACKSPRATT..........the things you say and the things you do. i can see a line around the corner to sign up. -
i am licenced and trained in firearms, so my questions are. 1) what do you call the training area in BIGROKIDO? 2) does it have a weapons range in the back or do you travel to the weapons range? 3) are all members licenced in firearms, and is it by the state, county or country?
-
this is a good example for the need of protective equipment in amateur sports. oh yea; health benefits help otherwise it can get costly.
-
jackspratt....(lol)......the things you say....a simple get out would have sufficed....if you keep this up either you'll knockout all your students or they'll leave thinking their next. _________________ rushman (taekwondo moderator) 3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon florida This Message was edited by: iamrushman on Jul 20, 2001 3:41pm

ah ANGUS.. my friend..some people are just trouble. they either think they can out intimidate the intimidator or they just don't like your face and want to rearrange it. or perhaps they just want your money/shoes/watch/jewelry. who knows with all the freaks out there. or as KEN says they just need street fighting experience and want to try their skills. violence is the last resort and only to protect life and loved ones not ego. _________________ rushman (taekwondo moderator) 3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon florida This Message was edited by: iamrushman on Jul 20, 2001 4:48am

very interesting reading...thanks for sharing this.............it just goes to show that when it comes to the actual battle, one never knows till the time comes and for that day only. during my military days in combat, i have seen the strongest become weak and vice versa on a day to day bases. it is the values of martial arts we should be concern with.

as an instructor i am asked this very same question from beginners. so the the classic/formal answer is; that i use my MA everyday in the street; by not knocking out anyone who makes a sly remark, makes me mad at work, and/or attacks my ego.
