  1. actually WW, you've slipped a bit there. i've mostly reffered it to as the greatest fight scene ever caught on camera. and it is pretty damn good. you can find it at edaymovie.com, i think it's >$10.
  2. It's very effective, especially when I'm playing "Ninja Gaiden" on my friend's Xbox. oh my god, that game is wicked hard! granted, a lot of that is just because the x box has stupid controllers, but geez! it's nigh impossible!
  3. delta, i'm only 18. i'm viewed as a punk kid up to no good; people see me as a prankster no matter what i do
  4. i can't imagine they do. they're almost certainly sponsored. and if they weren't then, they probably are now
  5. a lot of people say it's good to try to do your empty hand forms with weapons in them. in theorey you'll be able to apply everything with only slight alterations, and it makes for a good change. just a thought...
  6. see, that's what happens. the little un-fed underpayed slave children think they can get away with shoddy stitching, and i for one am not gonna' take it anymore! give me 2 minutes alone with one of those kids that'll teach 'em a thing or two about quality... seriously though, my big beef with adidas is the whole sweat shop thing. though, to be honest, the big reason i've never bought it is cuz it's just so much more expensive than everything else, and it seems to be essentilaly the same stuff, just with 3 little leaves on them.
  7. well, see, now i have to get extrememly good at Wing Chun, just so i can spite the style for giving me so much trouble. i'll show it... then we'll see who's boss...
  8. i'd say one of the larger differences is mentally; when you're sparring it's a (generally) friendly competition between two trained and ready people in a controlled environment. in a confrontation, well... y'know the drill. anything goes, dunno the enemy, blah blah...
  9. True, but I'm just a little picky. Even when listening to cheesy pop songs I like them to be good cheesy pop songs (if there can be such a thing!) Same with MA movies - the movie might be "Martial Arts Lite", but I still want the actors to look as if they have at least half a clue about what they're doing i suppose. but you know those songs that are just so awful that you can't stop listening to them? or for MA movies, sometimes you want "once upon a time in china".... sometimes you want "road house".... sometimes, the best movie is the worst movie. though i suppose i see your point as to the whole "knowledge of martial arts thing". there's a big poster add in the local Target; it's probably 6 or 7 feet tall. and it features this woman, who i guess is supposed to look strong, in sweats punching. it's the single most pitiful looking punch i've ever seen, and it makes me shake my head every time... ...it's as bad as i am at wing chun and glad to hear your day picked up. always a plus
  10. good lord... a non-korean stylist showing open admiration for TKD? ...i'm speechless...
  11. If he is clearly attacking you, I'd say shout "NO!" instead of 'kia' as you counter attack. that reminded me, here in madison they say you should yell "fire", since more people will probably come around, seeing as A) they think they may be in danger too and B) people love watching things burn... i guess. y'know, you always get a crowd of gawkers. anyway, "fire" is supposed to draw a crowd and give you an out. just a thought.
  12. whoa whoa whoa... WW, what happened that the person got stabbed 49 TIMES!?! that's incredible! 49? 7 or 8 is excessive, 49... geez. kitchen mishap?
  13. * in the bushes by oasis. a very high energy song with not much to it to distract the viewer. very basic, very repititive.
  14. i gotta' say, i'm with WW again. you may be able to see things with the eyes, but i think you can see just as much if not more through body language and gestures.
  15. ideally, in hwa rang do, you're relaxed in everything. in fact, i just kind of assumed that was true of all styles, since, y'know, the longer you're tense, the faster you'll get tired. my legs tend to be tense, though, just from that stance. i can't get comfortable in it! and then when i relax my legs, my back isn't straight anymore, gah! my biggest problem with punching as of right now is keeping my elbows in and striking with the bottom 3 knuckles. in hwa rang do you do the first 2, and well... yeah. oh, and hitting to the same spot, and keeping my center closed, and....
  16. ^agreed^ in fact, often times, fighters, say, a TKD stylist will WANT you to keep your distance, so it would be best to get in really close and take a lot of their kicks away. if i wanna' sit there and dodge attacks all day, i'll just leave the fight altogether, which is the ideal situation. i've always admired the "they strike i'll counter" fighters, myself, which is what i prefer.
  17. either staff or kali sticks. i think y'all know what they look like; they're sticks. and i'm not computer savvy enough to post a pic. so... yeah. just deal with it.
  18. *grumbles some more* (+1 post count) personally, i'd rather have some good Cross Country running skills under my belt. but if it came down to it, i think i'd have to choose striking because, to be honest, that's where my base is and i'm biased. i can admit it. i have knowledge of take downs and ground fighting and joint locks and clinches, but i'm best at striking. with multiple attackers i'd think i'd have a better chance, and i think it's easier to keep moving, which is important in a confrontation IMO. keeps the energy up. so yeah, striking. but, of course, ideal is to use both or, even better, none at all
  19. 76.5, according to his profile. but, y'know, how many of those say "good point?"
  20. yeah, but if i'm gonna build one or save up for one, i'd best start now Does your sifu/instructor insist on you doing your techniques in a relaxed manner or does he point out that you are too tense when you are punching? well, uh.... no offense, but you're kind of asking the same question twice there, so i dunno what you're saying. but yeah, he stresses relaxation...?
  21. what would you suggest, eh? next time in england, i'll be sure to track you down and push you
  22. LMAO Shaolin Soccer did anyone see that? how is it? i saw it while browsing today... didn't grab it, though.
  23. wooden dummy. actually, i see one now for $700. but i can't imagine S&H prices being cheap. i guess i could build one... but i dunno how. or wait a bit, see if he gets a fixed place and then moves it there. or i could befriend a dummy owining elderly man with a heart condition, jump out from behind a dark corner and scare him, thus inheriting it... hmmmm.... oh, and really? should they have? i'll go in on tuesday and push him the over. see what happens.
  24. here's soemthing to try. when you shift your feet, don't think about moving your feet. try to shift your knees (to carry your hip) and let the feet follow. it doesn't make much sense but try it and you should feel what i mean. that's what he told me. but the whole thing is just really awkward, it's still exceptionally uncomfortable. and i think i'm to tall for the stance. i think i'm really to tall for wing chun in general, but bah. no, i didn't get to push on anyone standing on one leg. now i'm dissapointed we were punching to the same spot. well, we were supposed to be. that was my big thing. unless he held his hand out as a target, my fists kept flying everywhere. i'm really bad at this. ach, to bad they have a price tag of about $1,000... where's the smiley reaching into his empty pockets?
  25. awww, i'm sorry aefibird, i hope your day picks up i dunno, sometimes it's just nice to have a little fun. like music. sometimes you wanna' hear deep, meaningful lyrics with well thought out music that you can truly appreciate. other times you wanna pop in saturday night fever and burn baby, burn! not that i've ever been a segal or a van damme fan. i've always drifted towards jackie chan, myself. sometimes i don't wanna' watch a movie that will change my view of the world and make a deep impact on my life. i wanna' see someone get killed with a billiard ball, damn it!
