there's a thread somewhere or other debating what it can and can't actually do, i forget what it's called. evidently it helps bruises heal faster. you can make it yourself, as i think someone mentioned they did, or usually an instructor will make it, or find it in china town. or just ditch it all together. it's just a bruise, y'know? though, i gotta' say, i really wish this massive bruise on my shin would go away a bit faster... i'm kind of wishing i had some now

really? that's funny, over here it's in chinese. y'know, with english subtitles. at any rate, i thought it was a good movie, kind of touching at times, and the fight between hero and spear was awsome. when the yen was fighting li upside down? ghetto fabulous

i think drunken monkey said it best with "learn first or learn last". i found wing chun so radically different from anything i'd done before that i really wish i'd learned it first, as it would have been much easier to learn wing chun and then cross over, rather than the HRD to wing chun i'm at now. it really is quite astonishing how pitiful i am at WC, and i think a lot of that would have been avoided had i picked up wing chun first. it's just so.... different, that i'd say if you're going to learn it, learning it first would be ideal.

i think i read somewhere that he only chewed on the leaves as a pain reliever, and that as far as drugs and alcohol went, he was pretty straight edge.

Drunken Boxing, any advice?
battousai16 replied to ddpc's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
i seem to recall seeing a choy li fut school in arizona having a website that was talking about their drunken boxing skills. you have to learn choy li fut for awhile of course, but if that's what you're looking for... wish i still had the address for you, sorry. -
Your biggest streetfight!

y'know WW, i know it's not quite what you meant, but you have no idea the image i have of you now, barking at people in a large confrontation... heh heh... -
it depends on how you define that, really. in your brain, you have millions of little dopamine receptors. and everytime you do something pleasureable (the best example being going to the bathroom after holding it a really long time), your body releases dopamine. y'know, so it'll feel good. when you smoke marijuana, you get a whole lot of dopamine. so much you don't have enough receptors for it. so over time you build more. but then every day activities you used to love just don't make you feel as good anymore, and if it goes on to long, they don't make you feel good at all. you'll have to smoke more and more to keep up with the receptors to get the same high, and/or move onto stronger stuff, else be miserable until your excess receptors die off, which takes an amazing amount of time.... alcohol just kills you.

i used to be damn good with a deck of cards, just because when i was 6ish-8ish i wanted to be just like gambit from the x men. i'll bet i've lost it now... where's a deck of cards...

well, he didn't have to be high at the tournament, because THC can stay in your system for anywhere from 6-8 months. any foreign substance that stays in your system that long is generally not good, on account of the fact that, well, it's not meant to be there, your body is designed to flush it out. although not nearly as harmful as other drugs, you'd be a fool to think marijuana didn't do anything. there's a reason no one advocates the use of marijuana, and it's not JUST as a... well, now that i think of it, i suppose saying the original reason the states made it illegal is a tad bit offensive, but if you know it, you know what i mean. anywho. not good stuff. i too know people who just aren't the same now that they've started.

^probably sound advice^ as for pudding, i've never been a fan. though apple crumble sounds awfully good right about now... i think it's time to get some gorcerys...

well, see, that's the thing. and quite frankly, IMHO, jet li was the least cool person in the movie. everyone else was by far prettier. and, y'know, you can give me that crazy one hit kill move all you want, been if he went and destroyed my carefully arranged book things, i think i'd be a little more annoyed than impressed...
-
well, see, that's why the law was instated... cuz, well, to many women were being beaten to death for not having dinner done in time or something... so in order to avoid that.... y'know, enough to really hurt, but not kill the poor woman... crazy weird laws...
-
see, but anything of merit that jet li has put out is cancelled out by stuff like romeo must die, cradle 2 the grave, black mask... i'm tempted to say kiss of the dragon, but it was really cool when he killed that guy with the billiard ball... and that other guy with the chop sticks... i dunno, that was a more "fun" movie. but once upon a time in china is the only jet li movie i can think of off hand that's done it for me. oh, and i dug hero too. i guess he was in that.

nuh uh, you're the one who's confusing them. famke janssen wasn't natalya, she was xenia onnatobb, the russian. iza's polish

sorry, i'm just that big of an MA geek

yeah, but you can't deny how awsome that would be i'd have to fight in all kinds of tournaments and get a uniform like heihachis... ach, it would be awsome. i used to have my room pretty long. y'know, not past my head, but a bit past my cheek bones, but it curled up a bit so i could see. i applied for a job at a day care center, and they said i was to shaggy looking. so i got my hair cut real short and i shaved, and my hair's never been so short before, it's so weird! everyone says they dig it, but i dunno... we'll see

wing chun tatoo
battousai16 replied to kle1n's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
well, if wing chun is his base, then he could always have it as a reminder of where his martial arts career began... though personally, i've always belonged to the "if you're going to get a tattoo, it should be something you designed yourself, or something someone designed for you" band wagon. -
oh, izabella scorupco. she was natalya in goldeneye? yeah. hottie. and jet li is pretty cute, but most of his movies are just so bad, i can't get over it. bah! romeo must die was a joke!

Help! What do I use to holster my Sais?
battousai16 replied to BobaFett688's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
i dunno shorinryu sensei, i think it would be best to learn sword with a wooden one first... i think that's the only real exception to your rule, though. -
y'know, people always relate pool cue to the staff. with its awkward shape and weight, wouldn't it be better with sword training? just a thought. also, i think i'd worry about my abductor losing control over the car and driving me off a bridge with the cigarette lighter. maybe if i was desperate. then again, i don't have any better ideas...

yeah, i remember when i first started learning percussion, i started on this "portable" bell set. the damn thing probably weighed 60 lbs., and i had to carry it to school and home every day. and the handles were made from some illogical material that really dug into my hand. my buddy who i walked with, however, played the clarinet. he just stuck it into his backpack....@#@#$%!
-
fine, than i'll await the nasty wrist lock... i'm worse at handling those anyway... and i'll give you "chips"... that's still it.

What did Bruce Lee die from?
battousai16 replied to RONIN W's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
actually, i've heard from everyone who's met him that he had a huge ego. linda cadwell, dan inosanto, bob wall... they didn't say he wasn't kind, or skilled, but i don't think there's any denying his huge ego.
