  1. are you just reffering to the translation thing? because i think it's generally accepted that when one says they learn kung fu, they're learning a martial art. or are you trying to say that chinese styles are ineffective? in that case i'll leave it for someone else to argue with you, as there are people on the subject far more knowledgeable than i. just know that i disagree whole heartedly.
  2. i saw it today; it's pretty good. there are certainly worse things to spend $8 on. and the fight between jet lee and donnie yen is pretty damn cool.
  3. well, for goat, '55is wood, 67 is fire,79 is earth, 91 is metal, and 03 is water. rabbit, 51 is metal, 63 is water, 75 is wood, 87 is fire, 99 is earth. i pulled these out of the horoscope section of kung fu magazine, they could very well not be accurate.
  4. well, i really don't think that's his movie, i believe he just sent it over here. i think that's been around for quite awhile. i know you can order it off of edaymovie.com
  5. "i'm not actually sure where you would find them things. most of them were drummed into me as a child.... y'know, short, fat, lazy... i was prime target for 'motivational' proverbs" ha, i hear ya. i find them mostly in childrens book form. it's always embarassing to be sitting next to a stack of childrens books at the books store, looking over them intensely, and then having a group of girls you know walk by and give you an odd look... i've also found a few in compilation books so, was there a reason the centipede moved the mountain? or did he just decide he wanted to?
  6. i don't know, i've lost sight of that fine line between "cute" and "creepy", especially when dealing with the opposite sex though that reminds me for some reason; i like to write, too
  7. good lord DM, they're ants! remind me never to let you watch my future off spring, or shelby, or my soda, or my bowling ball, or... ... i kid. you still don't get to watch my stuff, though
  8. i have a satanic demon cat that i love the heck out of. it's often just best to leave her alone unless she comes to you; she's learned to go for the eyes when she's angry i named her shelby, after my running idol
  9. i really dig history, and dig politics. i'm a big book geek, and i love watching bad movies with my buddies. i'm a runner, and a percussionist, and the occasional videogame or two eliminates anytime for such trivial matters as school work and the like
  10. i figured as much and no, i haven't feel free to fill me in. y'know, unless that's it, in which case, thank you
  11. oh, and ironberg, i was tempted to say the matrix, but the second and third were so bad, and now i can't watch the first one without thinking about how it's been corrupted. kind of like once upon a time in china, only not quite so severe. god, my dad and i were so dissapointed...
  12. good lord, i've only heard two of the three of those. only the 10 brothers one i read was condensed down to 5. unless those are two different stories... i've been reading all kinds of 'em; sitting down at the local barnes and noble and reading them furiously. perhaps it's just the novelty, as america really dosen't have much in the way of folk lore. you can only take so much paul bunyon and pecos bill. i mean, you have all of the myths and what not about the presidents and big generals, but those are more irritating then entertaining. though, as much as i've really been digging chinese folk tales lately, you guys have a lot of crap, too. like the one where the girl dresses up like a boy so she can goto school and learn to read and.... that's it. ... ...perhaps i missed something.
  13. i have never known ones testicles to shrink from weight lifting.
  14. i remember reading a book called "angry white pajamas". i don't remember if i liked it or not, or much of what happens, but i do remember that it deals with aikido, and the training the guy went through to get bottom level competency was pretty hard core. just a point.
  15. "i'm pretty sure that your wing chun class, as well as the wing chun itself, is nothing like how you imagined it. (hey, how's it going?) " gah, we're still trying to get ahold of each other. i just started university, and my schedules been thrown out of whack, mostly with driving times and what not. as of today i should be in on thursday. i guess he has this thing about meeting students personally before he trains 'em. . he sounds like a nice guy on the phone, though, and i've gotten all excited and reading up on wing chun and what not. i gotta' say, you chinese stylists have some excellent folk tales
  16. well, i just heard igor stravinsky's "rite of spring". i'd never seen it with the dance. i gotta' say, the score is odd and disturbing and i didn't dig it as much as the rest of the world seems to. perhaps it's just me, or the fact that i had to wake up at 6 am to see it... feh. i dunno; it seems to be worth listening to, at any rate.
  17. well, that got that out of my system
  18. oh, i know, it's just that i'd never really "seen" choy li fut, only read about it, and it was much different from what i'd pictured.
  19. hey, i'm with ya! With your hands on your hips You bring your knees in tight
  20. ^oh, far more likely to be injured, but not everyone realises that^
  21. well, i know that we use the vertical punch generally for hitting in the sternum. the horizontal punch is more for the stomach and face. but perhaps that's just us?
  22. heh, the century uniforms remind me of that great grounds keeper willy quote: "ya see, the kilt was just for day to day wear. in battle, we wore a full sequins ball gown. the idea was to blind your opponent with luxury!"
  23. jackie chan DID just turn 50. soon he'll retire and we'll need a new guy...
