  1. i gathered that, it was the definition that JKD applied that i'm not so sure i approve of.
  2. ^...HE'S 5!^ south park? mortal kombat? that stuff was an issue when i was wee, and wee as in 10, not 5!!! good lord! at anyrate, when i was younger i got the wooden spoon to the behind when i was naughty. well, my mom would. my dad didn't need it. hell, after awhile a stern stare is all you'd need to know that you were in big trouble, and you should never do that again. the MA training probably wont do him to much good if he dosen't that slack isn't picked up... that said, i'm no parent, so i'm not one to judge...
  3. ...i was always under the impression that a gang was really just a group of people, generally with similar interests...usually bound by language and sometimes age...
  4. actually, i found it fairly easy to trace my instructor, even being here in the states. it wasn't even that hard, DM here did most of the work for me
  5. yeah, i dig that, i guess i'm with you there. i've always felt a little funny calling HRD "complete"... comprehensive is much better, thank you.
  6. well that makes me feel good, then my strategy was to just scope it out until i found something that looked fishy, which hasn't happened yet.
  7. hmmm... good point, i guess comprehensive would be the better word. touche.
  8. nice save i think HRD is complete in that it's really an MMA with all the hard work of seeking out systems done for you. you cover hand techniques, foot techniques, joint locks, ground fighting, all kinds of weapons, philosophy, history (even if it does clash with history books a bit), practical techniques, flashy worthless techniques; it really does have it all. not everything works for everyone, but it's really good to find out what works for you because you're exposed to everything. that, however, does not make it good. WC dosen't have everything that HRD has, but what it has it has well, and it transfers over. so... yeah.
  9. oh, goes without saying... i just wouldn't DARE say it to my instructor... though, in its defense, it really is a great and complete system. i'm sure they even teach tank operation at later levels and that is from the perspective of a student, so... yeah. maybe i just haven't "seen the light"... i think most of the impurities are in the attitudes of most of the practitioners... MHO. it dosen't leave room to grow.
  10. hmmm... than i guess it would be a tooth pick, eh? of course, not to let my feeble attempts at humor get us to far off topic...
  11. I CAN'T FIND IT!!! i've been looking all over, it's nowhere to be seen!
  12. well, see, and that's the thing, is that the few things i've learned in WC have already opened all sorts of doors in HRD, which has just made it all the more effective, really. the thing about HRD is it's a "tradtional"...mma. there's enough to it that there really isn't much for WC to "butcher", and although there are obvious differences now, they've so far only improved HRD rather than helped it... but my instructor still talks about "impurities" every so often...
  13. ah, but i recall reading he plays with guns, too... which would imply that the next step is, well, the tank, of course. i'm on the harrier jet, myself
  14. your school DOSEN'T teach you how to operate a M1A2 Abrams tank!?! psh, i think that says more about YOUR school...
  15. gah, you gotta' love lupin the 3rd... if for no other reason than the great sound track! and i have nothing but fond memories of TMNT
  16. i gotta' agree with you whole heartedly, now that my elbows are in with my punches (finally), they're in with everything i do. i find it kind of ammusing, and i'm a bit more satisfied with my taining that way. i don't feel the need to seperate HRD and WC. if one makes the other a bit better that way, so be it.
  17. "I find it easy to get girls. Just sneak up behind them, throw a blanket over their head, and grap 'em." ach, good to see the ol' caveman method is still alive and well
  18. y'know, i was in bio class one day, and i was getting really bored, so i drifted off and actually came up with the very MEANING of life... it dawned on me that i was really tired, and how much i'd like to goto sleep, and that at the end of the day, i always goto sleep... and how much i enjoy going to sleep... and how, even when life really really sucks... sleep always rocks... and dreams always work out better than life... what if you don't goto sleep so you can have energy for your day, but you go through your day to expell enough energy to sleep? ponder THAT young grasshopper.... when i'm not sleeping, however, i generally try to go by two quotes. one being that lifes troubles are not to paralyze you, but rather to help you to discover what kind of person you really are. i forget who said it, though. the other is by elie wiesel, and i don't remember it exactly off hand, but it went something to the effect of "Take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."-Elie Wiesel". and know that nothing happens without a reason. as for the eye, monkeygirl, i'll just say this. i mangled my eye when i was younger, about 12. a thorn on a tree branch whipped back and nailed me in the eye, going all the way through. surgery twice, couldn't see out of it for awhile... i have an artificial lense in it now, and occasionally it reflects light, and my eye will shine. this attracts the attention of the ladies... and once i met a ladie who also injured her eye, and that stirred conversation, and well... ...sides, i bet after you got kicked there once, you didn't let it happen again, eh? always something to be learned....
  19. i gotta' say, pick up lines aren't half as ineffectual as everyone says they are. the single coolest girl i ever got the pleasure of dating showed interest in me after my personal favorite "hey there... y'know, i may not be the best looking guy in here, but i'm in the only one talking to you "... note the " ", because it's all in the delivery... aside from that, i know it's cliche, but be yourself, because if it gets serious, than you have to go back... and that's if they don't spot it to begin with. keep the focus on her. it's a good topic, cuz if you're interested, it's good to beef up on the material for the up coming test (PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS!), and she can talk about herself for hours if you ever come to one of those awkward pauses...
  20. full metal jacket, fight club, blood sport, and... disney's hercules? which of these things is not like the other? ...depends on my mood. right now i'd have to push muppet treasure island... and i have high hopes for shaun of the dead ... but yeah, i bet by friday i'll be game for something completely different... we'll see. snatch is always a good choice i think, as is any given mel brooks movie. but, uh, i have this thing about really enjoying really bad movies, so... my tastes are a bit warped some times... still, a good screening of road house starring patrick swayze never dissapoints...
  21. i've had some really, truly awful teachers in my time. truly bottom of the barrel. i have a pretty bad teacher right now. but never for an instant did i ever assume that i was smarter than them. the mere fact that they're older than me shows they've probably done and seen more than me. even in the off chance that they know less than me on the subject, which has yet to happen, that dosen't mean i have nothing to learn. it's quite foolish to just declare yourself smarter cuz you're catching on the material faster, or s/he's making a few mistakes here and there.
  22. i would say practice it more until you realized you haven't perfected it. then find an instructor to learn your techniques from.
  23. yeah, i've noticed that myself. so have my HRD instructors... and they're not exactly thrilled, though it hasn't created a large problem yet. mostly just "wedging" in sparring a lot. and my elbows are in with my vertical punches... we'll see how it goes.
  24. though i do have a question about the story: i was reading a book the other day and it said that the king in question is often regarded as one of the 100 worst tyrants of all time... by the way, it was a book listing out and describing the 100 worst tyrants of all time. the movie made it out that this wasn't so, and that the people of china ultimately came to respect and admire him. is that so? or is the book so? maybe the author was just searching for people after he ran out of tyrants? just wondering, is all...
  25. well, y'know, that wouldn't even do it. say, if one self was feeling a little under the weather, or the environment and which one had the advantage/disadvantage, if one had a better instructor, y'know...?
