  1. I'm sad to report this tragic story. Former NHL player Adam Johnson died after taking a stake to the neck during a hockey game on October 28, in England. I did not watch the video but from what I read it was a collision and a fluke accident. Johnson had previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was 29 years old.
  2. Hockey is tough to predict but I am confident that that Sharks are going to be abysmal this year.
  3. Arizona bounces back in a big way and dominates, winning 9-1 in game two. Series now tied with game three Monday in Arizona.
  4. It's good to remember your blessings. That's something that I struggle with. I think that it's easy for us, as humans, to get so focused on what needs improvement that we forget to look back to see how far we've come. However, I think it's important to understand that, while there are people out there who have it worse, that does not invalidate our issues. You're allowed to focus on something bringing you down. I would advise against doing it so much that it becomes an anchor, which is something that I struggle with often, but it's okay to feel bad about a situation that you are in.I often get in the most trouble when I overthink my problems because that is how I dwell on them and make them worse, often times worse than they actually are. But I am learning from my spiritual sensei, the master, Alan Watts, who said, "By thoughts, I mean specifically, chatter in the skull. Perpetual and compulsive repetition of words, of reckoning and calculating. I’m not saying that thinking is bad. Like everything else, it’s useful in moderation. A good servant but a bad master. " I now work to think in moderation. It's a new approach for me but so far it is helping. To your point about how it does not invalidate our issues, I think that's important to understand.
  5. Wild first game of the series. Texas got off to a 2-0 lead in the first then Arizona comes back and has a 5-3 lead in the ninth when the Rangers get a 2-run homer to tie it in the bottom of the ninth, then a walk off homerun to win in the bottom of the 11th. Rangers win it 6-5.
  6. At 7-0-0 Vegas is now the only unbeaten team left. I believe the record for most wins to start a season before a loss is 10. Vegas has the next three games at home against Chicago, Montreal, and Winnipeg, which would tie that record if they won them all. Last year Vegas started out winning thirteen of the first fifteen, that is the best record through the first fifteen games of the season in NHL history. They have played half as many and still have not lost, so there is a chance they could match or break their own record from a year ago. On the other end is San Jose who is stinking up the joint at 0-6-1, the only team without a win. It's going to be a long year of rebuilding for the Sharks. Once again Minnesota is middle of the pack. Minnesota sports - masters of mediocre.
  7. To make it really cheap, you and your partner could go as Adam and Eve. All you need is four big leaves! I'm still not decided if I am going to dress up or not, but if I am going to, I think I know what I am going to go as and I already have the items.
  8. Excellent! I loved Frasier though i have already heard negative things about the reboot. Hope it's good though part of me wonders where they can go - by the finale they had pretty much exhausted most sensible plotlines; fingers crossed though! Have you had a chance to see it? I have seen the three episodes that were released so far, and I find it unremarkable at best.
  9. It's that time of year. Halloween is just around the corner the fall weather is arriving and the ghosts and goblins are in the air. I also saw that the original Halloween movie was released 45 years ago today, October 25, 1978. I will have to watch that classic tonight. Though my favorite horror movie is the original Psycho. I'm not a horror buff or anything like that, but I do get into them a little bit this time of year. What are some of your favorites?
  10. I'm glad Arizona won. It's a good story.
  11. Arizona and Philly play in game 7 tonight to see who goes to the World Series. Winner will face the Cordell Walker and the Texas Rangers.
  12. Looks like the Golden Knights and Avalanche are off to good starts. Bruins are also undefeated. Vegas at 6-0-0 is the best six game start in NHL history for a team that won the cup the previous year. On the other side the Oilers have started slow. I don't read much into that though.
  13. Houston wins game five to go up 3-2 and Arizona wins game four to tie the series 2-2.
  14. Someone on Twitter started a conversation a while back about who would win in a boxing match, Mike Tyson in his prime, or LeBron James if James had two years to train. Again, skill, technique, and experience vs size. LeBron, 6'8" 260 is much taller and heavier than Tyson, 5'11" 218 in his fighting days. I am not informed on boxing, I just find it hard to believe that someone with two years of training could beat a heavyweight world champion who has boxed all of his life, even if the boxer is both smaller and lighter. Two years of training in martial arts is not even long enough to get the fundamentals down, generally, but I am not sure how that relates to boxing.
  15. Decent game tonight between Jacksonville and New Orleans. Jags hold on to win 31-24 after Saints dropped the tying TD with under a minute left. Jags are now 5-2 and could be a real contender in the AFC.
  16. Yep, a much needed win. Astros won tonight over Texas 10-3 and that series is now tied 2-2. Here is the schedule and TV availability for games this weekend. All times are eastern times. Friday, Oct. 20 HOU @ TEX, Game 5, 5 p.m. (FS1) PHI @ AZ, Game 4, 8 p.m. (TBS) Saturday, Oct. 21 PHI @ AZ, Game 5, 8 p.m. (TBS) Sunday, Oct. 22 TEX @ HOU, Game 6, 8 p.m. (FS1)
  17. If I have a costume this year, I will be making it on the cheap.
  18. I'm surprised they have struggled in the red zone, I though that was a strength of the team in recent years. Of course it is a new season and things can change fast in the NFL.
  19. Astros win game 3, 8-5, Rangers lead the series 2-1.
  20. Walker Texas Rangers take the first two games against Houston, and Philly wins game one against Arizona in the NLCS.
  21. Philly beats Atlanta and now the baseball final four are set. Philly takes on Arizona and it is an all Texas ALCS between the Rangers and Astros. Here are the upcoming games with all listed times as Eastern. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Sunday, Oct. 15 TEX @ HOU, Game 1, 8:15 p.m. ET (FOX) Monday, Oct. 16 TEX @ HOU, Game 2, 4:30 p.m. (FOX/FS1) AZ @ PHI, Game 1, 8 p.m. (TBS) Tuesday, Oct. 17 AZ @ PHI, Game 2, 8 p.m. (TBS) Wednesday, Oct. 18 HOU @ TEX, Game 3, 8 p.m. (FS1) Thursday, Oct. 19 PHI @ AZ, Game 3, 5 p.m. (TBS) HOU @ TEX, Game 4, 8 p.m. (FS1)
  22. Arzona shocked the Dodgers and advanced after a sweep of the series. Houston also advances and Philly has a 2-1 series lead after beating Atlanta on Wednesday. One game Thursday between Philly and Atlanta, at 8pm eastern time. You can see the game on TBS if you care to watch it.
  23. 100% agree here. Tbh the size/weight is more important than the height. someone equally skilled, my height but decent amount lighter i usually feel i can 'bully' a little when sparring; someone equally skilled, shorter but same or greater weight usually feels a LOT harder (especially if they can take a hit) - it's why they have weight classes and not height classes Would you say then that reach advantages are overrated? Not challenging your opinion, just asking.
  24. Baltirmore had a great regular season but they were swept by Texas and the Walker Texas Rangers advance to the ALCS. Houston crushed Minnesota 9-1 and lead the series 2-1. Games for October 11: Wednesday, Oct. 11 ATL @ PHI, Game 3, 5 p.m. (TBS) HOU @ MIN, Game 4, 7 p.m. (FS1) LAD @ AZ, Game 3, 9 p.m. (TBS)
  25. Braves win to tie the series 1-1 with Philly, Arizona is up 2-0 after beating the Dodgers on Monday.
