  1. id say tae kwon do is more obsessed with work outs but i dont think its a great art, for self defense or even tournament your better off with karate and youll probably still loose the weight if you train at home to. but then again, im a karate ka and im in shape, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
  2. does anyone know the name of Shimabuku's school in Okinawa? is it still open? i would like to train there, i might be getting stationed in okinawa soon. its impressive for a proffesional fighter to say they were trained under one solid master, but since that won't be possible for me, i think training under the same school as the master founder of my style would look impressive to when i enter K-1.
  3. its nothing compared to what im gonna give em. grappling, ha! if they all thing grappling can easily defeat striking than wait till they see my speed, they won't be fast enough to get me on the ground, and the'll have no power while im in the air.
  4. lol, have any of you seen isshinryu ANYWERE in the open circuit? or will i be the first to compete in major fight?
  5. yea sai is right, lets nicely hand the opponet our loose change! j/k sai
  6. no katas yet, anyways.
  7. okay, i love shotokan, but the reason i think its a cool art (though i do not take it) is because its so pro-tournament fighter. if its defense you want, probably better go wado. but to all you shotokan practioners, i repeat what i said in othe rpost, ignore the hype! your style is the bomb, despite rumors of mcdojo crowding.
  8. I have created a philosophy that everyone falls under seen elements of ki (or ka) based on there personality. mine is fire, the extremist, i either love or hate you, either full of power or completely weak. kinda like the billy joel song.
  9. classic rock is my fav. but for training i like techno.
  10. ok, i just want to clear two things up: first, you cant quit the Marines! its a contract, they can fire you (per say) and you cant quit, you serve your term or get dishonorable discharged (but good luck getting a job ANYWERE if that happens) and also, in the USA women can join the Marines, just not special forces, im not sure which you refeer to. I just joined the Navy DEP program, so i guess im in the same department as the Marines!
  11. yea, actually alot of us play socom, i personnaly havent yet. PTO is another one we like a lot. Theres nothing wrong with waiting your turn, its just it would be alot more convient if one or two of us have our own screens. the ide ais we have three screens in the room so that if im not playing of course someone can use mine. Video games and movies are about all there is to do if your staying in the bunk room. Not to mention, im an RPG player, and community game rooms HATE RPG players because we require to much elapsed time.

    my sensai

well, i didnt say he would be known all over the world, i just wanted to know if any one knew him.
  13. lol, you guys just said the words gamecube and gameboy advanced. you obviously havent had any contact with the navy lately. PS2 is ALL there is, and since theres not much to do on the ship after work when your not in port, video games are a must. i think PS2 is in a way endorced by the Navy, there are a ton of Navy titles. its just what they play over there. ill look into the screen, i wonder if they make it for ps2
  14. the one thing i have always wanted to do since seeing that movie is during karate practice at the dojo, when we are doing step by step kata, go: 'one, of us, is wearing, a push up braw, its lacey, it looks cute, with padding.' its sometimes very hard to resist, but i dont want to get thrown out either.
  15. im about to join the navy, actually my MEPS date is July 7-8 and my boot camp will likely be in early July of next year. I have been told by recruiters that you can bring Labtops on board the sjip with you, in fact most people bring there PS2's belive it or not. I really dont want to have to use the rooms televison though for that, id rather let the other guys use it, plus im stingy. so i was wondering if you guys know of a portable television that you can hook a PS-2 up to. i am trying to invest in one, hopeing that perhaps the price and the size will eventually go down ( i currently have PSone) and i definitly need to bring my laptop with me, seeing as to how im a writer. these three items can fit conviently and neatly in my sea bag along with everything else i need but i dont know of a portable you can do this with unless things have changed.
  16. how many tears have you shed over this ninja nurse? would you say....ten million?
  17. i agree, you rprobably right. but if they could just meet in the middle between manga and blood feast than it would still make both parties a lot of money. its the two biggest fighting game series in the world, and arguably the biggest game series period. you know people are just iching for it.
  18. god its been like three days now! there getting better but i never would have thought it would be this slow. were can i find tigers balm? would century sell it? what about asian world of martial arts?
  19. yea, i dont know about part of that though. ive watched some of the isshinryu siginiture kata that higher belts perform in my dojo, the throws look pretty impressive to me. But im thinking if i could edited this stuff a bit and take the basic principles and skew them around, then i could give isshinryu at least, if nothing else, a fighting chance on the ground. of course, the object of isshinryu ground fighting would be to do whatever it takes to get your opponet off your back and get back in a standing position, were we are most comfroble. Hey, if nothing else, doing this and showing it works might someday get me a judan (which to recive one must have furthered the style in some way) which G.I's did you know how trained under Shimabuku, or did you know some okiawains or perhaps (but unlikely) Japanese soilders?
  20. you know what i always thought would make a good game? Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter..it seems such an obvious cross over, and so benificial to both parties, why have they not done it!
  21. Ninja Nurse, what are you saying!!!???? you mean you dont own it????....im not sure i can respect you as a martial artist anymore.... 'Youll never make it! ever! never ever make it, ever make it, never! ever make never ever make it! Don't you see? You can't make it!'
  22. oh, what i meant was, this article described the shadowless kick as a kick that has no predenotation. for instance, in karate (isshinryu style anyways) we are taught to focus on the opponets shoulders, because from there we can see everything he is doing based on the way the shoulders move, this article described the shadowless kick as having perfect posture all the way through, the kick therefore has no 'shadow' for which base were the real thing will strike. However, i have noticed a lot of Chinese forms use high, natural stances, where a lot of Okinawain styles like low stances. i wonder if i can combine the shadowless kick techniques with the stances of the okinawain styles.
  23. thanks, this will be helpful! but...ewwww! does that advertisment actually say Gracie Ju Jitsu? i think im going to be sick.
  24. lol, you mean there was apoitn in which this was a mature adult conversation.? actually the only thing that is juvinille is the gracie's arogance which is ruining the martial arts community as a whole. Is there a link were i could see shimabuku's grappling style? im sure i will learn it at the dojo eventually, but im pretty early in for that now.
  25. actually it was just the oppisite, wimp lo belived the balls and the face were weapons to be thrown out at a target. "im sure on some planet, your style is quite impressive, but your weak link is, this is earth." ahhh! i know what my next qoute on my profile is going to be!
