  1. i was just thinking, wouldnt it be fun to create your own kata? maybe it wouldnt work as a good application, but then again if you study human motions and reactions well enough maybe you might have something. has anyone here tried this?
  2. okay i hate to bring up this very old topic but jerry, this is the one area were i have a problem with your theroys on chi and ki. we can not all speak for experince, and there are many who would say yours is fradulant, not me, but there are others who have as much faith in you being a healer as me being the future replacement for JR Tolkien. no, its not nessasarly that they are correct but some of - no- most of us hae no choice but to do our best to research and hope we can tell truth from quack.
  3. i belive that ki is a power intrusted to us by god that after hundreds of years of study we have really only begun to tap into. but like all of mans skills, it can be used for both good and evil. the bible also says, we have a choice, we are slaves to know diety, god or devil. God gave us the power to chosse are path, as he gave us the power of ki. i do not summon the dead when i meditate or anything else, i belive, that is outside our normal prowess, i think that the human race as a whole, however, has greatly under estimated what god has forged for us to be able to acomplish.
  4. its one of my favorite animes! and probably the most realistic in its views of martial arts ethics.
  5. aye, aye sir, thank you very much. *come on USS Ronald Regan, PLEASE!*
  6. i belive the statment is easily reveresed. in fact, i persoanly belive i have grown as a christian through my martial arts training and study of the budo. Both factions require one to seek self perfection.
  7. i will say this, as a tournament fighter i have great respect for the ISKA and i do not belive they would allow competetiors to cheat. i have full faith that this is not only physically possible, but for the willing martial artist, very obtainable.
  8. dont get me wrong, i love kicks, i wish i was better at them, but punches are just so pratical, more controllable, and less strenous on the body. also, a foot can be grabed a lot easier than a hand can, and if your grabed your pretty much screwed unless you act quick.
  9. lol, yes its one of my favorite movies. ive talked with my dad a lot about joining, he has been back and forth but has agreed to sign my DEP (delayed entry program) papers, ive also learned how to tell truth from myth but when i do go, at least the first time, to the recruiters office my dad will be with me. Though honestly, id feel more comfroble going with my uncle, he was army not navy but i feel more at ease about talking to recruiters with him. but he is in bosnia.
  10. Hi! On the 18th of this month I will be 17 and have decided to enter the Navy through the DEp program. I have called the recruiting office and left a message, in the mean time I wondered if I could get a question answered here. When you enlist, just as you can request your rate, and fill out a dream sheet of where you would like to be stationed, can you request which vessel you wish to serve on in sea duty? I would like to serve aboard an air craft carrier like my dad did (he really enjoyed it) and will be (hopefully) a MAA. Thanks for your help.
  11. no, not in training of course not, but after i get to my first duty station
  12. opps, lol, i didnt see you made a link
  13. if you go to 24 fighting chickens website theres whole article he wrote about wear the belts come from, thats were i read the thing about the colors being fake.
  14. i read that thing about the colors representing stains on the belt, it was in an article about karate myths, its completely untrue, though romantically a good idea. there was originaly only two belt colors; white and black. the color belts come from the fact that martial arts in america got here from the US Millitary and so they created a rank structure just like the millitary has a rank structure. i honestly dont see a problem with immersing yourself in any one elses culutre if your intrested in it, espicially if your an american.
  15. right, which means white works, i personaly wear white. but if we think about, this symbolism also means that wearing a diffrent color gi could represent something as well. i wish more people would think about the purpose behind chosing there gi, to many people treat it like just another uniform that thell get rid of when its to old or dangy. then again, this may be just me as i take close notice with colors on more than just my gi. for instance, the color of my kumite gear as a special meaning to me (silver) ect. ect.
  16. i thought about something after i wrote that last message on this thread. im joining the navy soon, as i told you before Martial Girl, i wonder if im aloud to have sai's on base.
  17. sweet! so other weapons can do the same, thats great! sai is my favorite weapon, im getting my first pair for my birthday. i wonder what sort of personality they will develop...
  18. 24 FIGHTING CHIKENS! you mean THE 24 fighting chikens, from the shotokan karate site thats on my favorites list like seven times!!!!! omg, i feel like im talking to a celebraty, wait, i am! your articles have helped me so much, i cant belive im actually seeing you here!
  19. it didnt look like star wars!? thanks for running my dream! what about sai? ever seen them spar? (yes, i know, im obessed with this weapon) i guess it would make more since though to go sai vs. bo or sai vs. sword than sai vs. sai
  20. i had a couple of questions. first is there a style of sword that is souly okinawain. also, i heard my sensai say something about a brother of his in the marine corps who was stationed at okinawa, he sent my sensai some swords and my sensai said "There nice, but of course the okinawains would not sale him a real blade, they belive there souls exist in the sword" dude, that sounds cool, what can you tell me about this, id like to use the concept in a story im writing.
  21. god i wish i had that much room. there is a spot out in the woods though thats a clear circle, i made this thing thats kinda like a wing chun dummy, dosent apply to my style but it works for some stuff. i posted the budo kanji over its entrance. its cool, like the trees moved out of the way to give me a space to do kata.
  22. wait, i need to correct myself. back hands to the jaw are okay, as are knife hand strikes (why youd want to do one to the head, i dont know, but whatever floats your boat) however punches that go straight in, like jabs and reveres must be feigned, to eaisly do they break bones, and we like to save bone breaking for the IWKA tournament in tenesse this august!
  23. i want an avatar, but im having trouble finding or editing one to fit. i was thinking maybe the ka kanji, meaning fire. my name is what it is because fire is MY element (one of the seven) it represents extrems. passion and rage, bliss and depression, im always in one or the other. no middle ground. this has its advantages and disadvantages, as do all the elements. I was also thinking of an isshinryu patch but cant seem to git one to work.
  24. it would, if someone would bop me in the nose, but in my school strikes to the head are fegined, not completed, so even though i know that in a fight i would have just taken a nasty blow, my subconsious says "i wasnt hit, if it aint broke dont fix it" and in trying to make a solid strike the guard is once again droped. no lesson is learned.
  25. I find that in kumite, i tend to drop my guard if i have a clear opening, so i may concentrate fully on the punch, this exposes my head, do you have any exersises that could help me get used to keeping that guard up and still executing the strike?
