  1. if i could, i would train 10 hours a day! id train till i past out from exhaustian! i want to be a top fighter, no, wait, i will be a top fighter. i hope that someday i can devote that much time to martial arts. i dont formally train more than an hour a day at home, and then of course two hours at the dojo learning new stuff once or twice a week. but in the period of the day i do stand in front of the mirror and do little quick practicies of techniques im having trouble with and stuff.
  2. if it gets serious dont let the oppisite sex destroy you. this is my advice: definitly be yourself and not me. of course have a good time, but if it goes somewere kid, than watch your step and may your soul walk on egg shells, its not the guys using and looseing the girls anymore, there back with avanengence! huh, like i did anything to them. wait what am i doing? why am i incriminating myself in your post? have fun!
  3. ohh, tough topic, i dont like making okinawain styles and japanese styles compared, i dont know why it just makes me quizzy. theres enough conflict between japanese, chinese, and korean with out spliting up the section of asia i call 'karate land'
  4. lol, i see it martial girl, and according to my tech center class americans like estonians to, or at least the male half likes the female half.
  5. oh yea! ive heard of that style! i thought it was called something else at first (i wont say WERE i heard of it) but its like learning to draw the sword and strike in one fluid motion right? so your opponet is finnished before the fight even begins.
  6. thanks rich. yea, that sounds like a plan, but i have to of course deal with the other problems that stood in my way in isshinryu: time, money, school. we actually have a lot of sword schools downtown in a part of richmond called the fan. im sure at least one is good, if i stay in VA. but if nothing else i will have to wait till i graduate high school, theres no way i have time for serious study in two styles when im going to school and working at Taco Bell (dont laugh). i want a good training, gotta make sure i dont bite off more than i can chew. money would also be an object, the only reason im able to take isshinryu now is because my school is so cool, and so none profit, its only $35 a month and the training is solid. its the most un mcdojoy school ive seen. thats part of why i want a stable ground in isshinryu first though, because that will give me time to straighten some things out before i try and study sword. you know, finish high school, get into collage, i also plan on getting a job in private security this summer (im qualified through a law enforcment course at the technical center ive been taking for two years) then ill quit taco bell and be making way more money. its deffinitly on my list of things to do before i make k-1 heavy weight champion of the world but i just gotta strighten stuff out first so i have time to study seriously and am not just playing light saber wars with my bokken when i should be doing my homework (not that id do that, i know im gonna get nailed for saying that one!)
  7. yes, in street fights its way more fun to do a low kick to the knee when they step forward, it tears them all up. just try focusing on hand technique more and kick the in the chest, but move right or left, aiming for a pectorial mucsel so it can take the blow. besides training is all about control. if you cant master the control of your power than you havent masterd the technique yet.
  8. yea, i noticed that when i tried the one at my dojo, my only major asset in competetion is i have a right leg like a shotgun and it about takes care of that wavemaster.
  9. how about wushu? whats offered were your at (wushu sounds good though, dosent it guys?)
  10. yea there really cool, the good ones can sorta act like mikawaras, that is, they through back forward with the same force you put into them, so you can acurastley messure how powerful your strikes are getting, thats because there filled with water. when you feel them with sand there not as good. i finnaly found out they sell them a the dicks near me, but they were out of stock i hope my next pay check is a decent one, i have to make a payment on my computer and save up for a wavemaster.
  11. im okay at converstional japanese but im fairly new to dojo japanese. its wierd, at my dojo sometimes thell use the english wording and sometimes the japanese and unfortunately, theres not really enough time in class to have a japanese lesson (i wish my class was longer) im having trouble though finding resocres to help me learn the japanese names of my techniques. are there any sorces online you know of that could help me? or just translate the techniques ive been focusing on so far: forward punch reverse punch head block middle level block low block forward snap kick spinning back kick side thrust kick roundhouse back foot round house (im not sure if thats its real name)
  12. *sigh* i really wish i did. im trying to make friends with someone in my class thats about my age. the only guy in my class that was really my age though joined the merchant marines right after green belt. i didnt even get the chance to really introduce myself. the only person i really talk to at this point is an older man from germany named Rolf. he seemed friendly, and since the sensai is busy alot i try and ask him questions on how we do things unless its something i really have to ask sensai. There are two other people my age in that class, both girls, i think they like me. but sparring with woman is dangerous. for them because theres to many points for injury, and for me because, lets face it, there faster, more flexible, and in alot of cases, smarter than me.
  13. isshiryu, the use of spirit. i can literaly feel courage, breath bravery, and taste honor when i train. there is no real way to explain this. i guess i just genraly love my style. :>) its history is intriguing to me to
  14. i agree rich. i can defnitly see were it would attract ninja turtle wanna be's. i to, am somewhat attracted to ninjitsu, but i figure i wont play with fire till i feel like getting burned. Im not researching to thourley right now, i just know im VERY attracted to the sword (who wouldnt be?) but i also know this about isshinryu: we practice three weapons, bo, tonfa, and my personal favorite, the sai. these weapons are taught and used in a way approprite to there okinawain origins (as far as use goes) they are anti sword in manner as we use them, so training first in how to defeat the sword with my isshinryu weapons, then how to use the sword itself would forge a perfect ying-yang would it not? i dont plan on training in sword till i know at least one kata for each weapon, does this make since? your advice would be appriciated.
  15. lol, karateakidoist, rich is a good guy but can be kind of harsh sometimes. maybe, what he meant to say is, try getting something similar to closure in your other two styles first, like getting shodan in Goju okay? then research ninjitsu a little more and see if then its still something you want to do. thats what im doing, i want to take japanese sword but im going to wait and at least make san kyu in isshinryu first (but i intend of course to still practice isshinryu and continue through my training)
  16. I come to you with only karate, empty hands i have no weapons but should i be forced to defend myself, my principles, or my honor if it is a matter of life or death, right or wrong, than here are my weapons, karate, my empty hands. im not sure if you study karate, but the idea still aplies. let me see now. defend yourself? almost definitley a yes, i dont think you really felt like your life was in danger, probably just because you knew this guy would not be a problem for you with your training. principles? did you feel as though you must protect the principles of your heritage? im not sure this would have been the best time to do that, a fat guy in a bar isnt exactly going to be able to pull off some kind of genocide if you dont beat him up in a norwiegien night club. honor, my sensai has something to say on this, ill qoute him now "Honor in the karate creed does not refer to the japanese concept of 'loosing face' or in other words, fighting because you were insulted. to fight for honor could be used in an example such as a young lady is being taken advantage of in a back alley way and you just keep walking. this would not be honorable. nor would fighting because you were called a name that offended you." Im not saying that was your reason for thinking of fighting, just wanted to see who agreed. again, i dont think YOU felt it was life or death, right or wrong? maybe he was just really drunk and didnt know any better...i guess it depends on what you did to him in the fight. "use just enough force to get away." will, i think you handled it pretty well, except telling the guy he was going to regret it probably just pushed him on more. ppl are idiots, its like i used to get threatned by these giants in the locker room. youd think tht when i should no fear, even grinned, that suspect i had something up my sleves, but they didnt because there retards, so weather or not he should have been scared, im sure this guy wasnt and saying that made him come for you more. but over all, i thought you did okay, then again it ended kinda prematurely didnt it?
  17. i have a question about the first one. if im not mistaken, the same chorogipher did the matrix that did "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" now im not real familiar with the techniques of chinese styles, but that deffnitly looked like actuall kung-fu/wushu (with wires, of course0 than did the movements demonstrated in the matrix. was the matrix actually using a style in there fight?
  18. yea, that makes since, if his got both hands on my neck im deffinitly doing a back kick to the groin. i might use that guy then to put some space between me and guy number two. of course then ive bought time so theres a lot of stuff i could do. get armed, throw the first guy, use him as a hostage, whatever.
  19. i dont remeber ignorance being a virtue in an culutre except maybe communist russia if all you want to do is fight and kill than perhaps youd better start looking for a new hobbie, or maybe just a penitentary. culures, ALL culures change some with time. thats just a fact of life. being traditional dosent mean you cant change things. we have adapted the martial arts for a reason, and if the martial arts wernt aloud to grow they would certainly not have withstood the test of time.
  20. karatewoman! shes upset because hse wants him to train WITH her!
  21. martial girl, litsen real closely okay? IGNORE HIM its likely not a good school anyway, i here you talking on the pm's and you LOVE karate, theres no sence in changing, so tell that guy his right, you cant do two things at once, ill be studing karate thank you very much. he is obviously narrowminded and has some how mangaed to such out your parents brains, give them a throulgh washing, and then put them back in. dont let the same thing happen to you.
  22. wow! okay i didnt know all that, yea every style is great go for it, please to god! if that what your being offered TAKE IT! even if my griping is correct maybe you can make something of it. SMR, i partialy agree with you. karate culture is its own culure just with a lot of japanese/okinawain influences. I do, however, love japanses/okinawain cultures. as well as german, russian, estonian (Martial Girl i hope you saw that) French, British, irish (since i was born there) and of course American. i love this country and im so glad i live here, but like i say often, and my dad along with alot of other ppl nail me for it but thats your opinion. 'Before i am a citizen of ANY country, i am a citizen of the world" i just love foriegn culures, and i find it funny that (not claiming you did this, butppl have) its constantly said that im unamerican because i have a Japanese scroll in my room across from the Irish National flag. but this is the melting pot for petes sake! my love of world culure SHOULD be considered VERY american.
  23. i have yet to see an american style victory against another style! ISKA, K-1 (if you can even find an american styleist), Olympics, i have even seen friends in american style who get into street fights (because there sensais dont teach them any better) and are defeated by untrained fighters who base there techniques soley on rough movements meant to break faces in, but have no control what so ever.
  24. intrestingly enough, while the term 'hentai' is often conected with japanese animated pornography, its literal translation in Japanese is 'pervert'...go figure...
  25. SMR, when i say 'culutre' im not nesacarily refering to a japanese/okinawain culure, but the culture of karate itself. American style is a joke. it has been proven a joke. we have a culture here that i am very aware and proud of but i just love studing culures. what you said sounds like something my father would say. its great to have your own culure but being ignorant to other culures is exactlly that, ignorance.
