  1. What if running means leaving a loved one behind? What then?
  2. So would you advise different distancing in a real fight as opposed to competition? I've used lateral movement and angles in real fights and it worked great, but the guy wasn't a competitive fighter obviously. What do you think?
  3. Well he has a good point, trying doing most TKD kicks in a tailored 3 piece suit. I agree with something Hatsumi Sensei said, "Train how you live." I you wear jeans and a t-shirt, train in them once in a while.
  4. Why is it that you really see lateral movement being used for avoidance when they work so fricken well? I do agree though being able to sprawl is absolutely necessary.
  5. I can't disagree with you there. Cheers.
  6. Well I think a balance is necessary in all cases. For example, Boxers shadow box. So basically punching and kicking air isn't invalid, but it shouldn't be the only thing you do.
  7. The Chimp already had his own intinctual way of protecting itself that is far superior to ours. I Chimp would kick our * in a fight, why would they bother teaching it Karate. Furthermore why would anyone mention that to MA's as a way to recruit people to his * MA.
  8. Yeah, I just don't get these guys.
  9. So don't you think MA's that were actually used in Combat are better suited for Combat than a MA that is designed for the ring? Let's not get into the training methods and how superior sport arts are, I already know this. Just think of yourself charging the enemy with your clan, is everyone going to pair up and have individual matches to see who wins. Your going to get in fast take him down and finish him fast, then move on. Big difference.
  10. I went to Dragonfest this weekend here in California and it was pretty cool. They have a lot of vendors and people promoting there schools. The Machados were there, but I was kind of upset they didn't demonstrate. The coolest demonstration was the Atemi Ryu Combat Jujitsu school from North Hollywood, their master is a bad *. Anyway a group of guys were walking around with these Monster Martial Arts shirts with a cocky expression on their faces, like they have the holy grail or something. Maybe they've learned some concepts that my help, but making claims like they're making is just *.
  11. Kodokan Judo in its pure form is lethal.
  12. Yeah, sounds like marketing * to me. He's marketing to people who don't have any patience.
  13. I agree with both of you Delta and TJS on one point only. Someone that is very athletic and trains hard will definitely have an advantage over a non-athletic Martial Artist. I'm generalizing of course because we haven't hit on the experience factor at all. The point I was trying to make is that the training methods of ring fighters are definitely superior to most non-sport MA's. I think that if these training methods were to be incorporated into most Non-Sport MA's it would be a different story. You'd find that many of the techniques do in fact work just fine with the exclusion of a few styles I won't mention for the sake of not insulting anyone. Also, I will say again that someone that is well versed in weaponary will be better at evading one. Also the psychology behind weapons training is completely different. You just assume everyone has a weapon, so don't get too close and look for clues. That is why many Traditional MA's bait and wait for the attack in most situations. So basically the most effective system of fighting in my opinion would be one that employs weapons training and takes into account different environments, such sand, snow, rain, water (slippery surfaces), roof of house, rocky surfaces etc. For example, I bet you there are very few fighters with the exception of a few that can fight on ice as well as a hocky player. Hee, hee, hee.
  14. Check out this website and let me know what you think. I've read a few articles and he seems to have a good understanding of the commonality between MA. Mostly sounds like propaganda for his books and products to me. http://www.monstermartialarts.com/index.html
  15. Yeah, if your endurance and evasion skills are good. But that can go for any Martial Artist that trains hard and is in good physical condition. Still weapons training is a crucial part of MA training. Dodging or blocking kicks is much different than evading a knife attack. So it really depends on the training methods. If you are training for the ring you will probably destroy most people hand to hand, but if a weapon (not a gun of course) is around it's all up in the air. Prize fighters are usually not concerned with weapons techniques, they are train to win fights. Don't get me wrong I really respect what these guys can do, but you can usually tell who these guys are. If you see these guys on the street you can usually spot them pretty easily, don't mess with them. Now the real dangerous guys are the ones that look like they can't do much, but can.
  16. Maybe try a new MA, something completely different than what you're used to.
  17. I highly encourage you to take San Soo, ask if they do bag work. My school did bag work very often and it's absolutely essential. If you are not happy with any school leave. San Soo will make you very effective if someone is stupid enough to attack you.
  18. Aikijutsu, Budo Taijutsu (Jujutsu), Kung Fu San Soo, and depending on which Martial Arts you mix for MMA can be effective if they train for that or if one or more of the arts being mixed has multiple attacker techniques.
  19. All sports bro, lack weapons training and don't account for changes in environment.
  20. What if that someone on the street garnishes a knife and happens to be trained to use it. Does a ring fighter constantly train for that? I was trying to say that well rounded MA studies everything about fighting including weapons which how most that were actually used in Combat teach. I was also trying to make the point that the training methods of the athletes you speak of can be used for any MA to create an effecient fighter from most legit systems of fighting.
  21. Well this is my opinion and that's all. I feel that there are certain systems of fighting out there that could be just as or more effective than what we are seeing if they were to train like these professional fighters train. I think a well rounded MA if trained properly and with the intention of fighting in the ring would do very well. I don't think this will ever happen, for reasons I can't figure out. I would really enjoy watching something like that.
  22. I just find 2 purests fighting more interesting.
  23. Kung Fu Sansoo, Budo Taijutsu, Daito Ryu Aikijutsu, Krav Maga, Arnis. Not in any particular order. I named these because I feel they are well rounded to almost any situation and environment. They also have weapons training which to me constitutes a complete Combat MA.
  24. Mas Oyama vs. Royce Gracie. Gracie vs. Tyson. Takamatsu vs. Royce Gracie in death match.
