I apologise Goshinman, I don't think you're a liar. However, I do indeed doubt that Gokor could give the Machados a run. Gokor is a known liar - he lied about his NHB record, he's lied about beating BJJ legend Ricardo Liborio, and Frank Shamrock. I'm sure the guy is good, but he is well known to take great liberties with the truth.

Tapping someone on the leg is different to submitting them As I said, it's easy to make these claims "Yeah, I tapped the Machados", or "Yeah, I tapped Rickson - no big deal". It's quite another thing to back your claims up. I await any news i.e. which brothers, by whom, when etc. Otherwise you guys are just liars. Simple as that.

Grappling arts vs Striking Arts

I trained in karate for longer than you and never saw any groundgrappling. Care to tell me how you escape mount, or a headlock or any other "grappling" techniques on the ground? -

Radok, I'll grant you that karate has techniques such as takedowns and throws and applying a lock from standing on someone on the ground. It does not however, teach escapes or any techniques applied from the ground. So a karate person, unless they've trained in Judo or jiu-jitsu, will not know how to pass the guard, escape from headlock, escape mount etc. There is no ground-grappling in karate. -

Radok, Do you now believe that BJJ has strikes, or are you making up the karate groundfighting comment out of spite? -

You only need to stop the blood going in or going out. Both is obviously better though. Perhaps your uncle was doing what is known by doctors as a Carotid sinus massage. “Carotid sinus massage involves rubbing the large part of the arterial wall at the point where the common carotid artery, located in the neck, divides into its two main branches. Rubbing the carotid sinus stimulates an area in the artery wall that contains nerve endings. These nerves respond to changes in blood pressure and are capable of slowing the heart rate. “ Please note “Massage in a blocked area might cause a clot to break loose and cause a stroke” So don’t try this on your friends!

Radok, Which style of karate? What techniques? Where did it get these techniques from? -

Radok, It doesn't teach them in the traditional sense, but it does teach them as set-ups for takedowns, how to avoid strikes while doing takedowns and how to strike on the ground. -
Sorry, but unless you can give names etc, then I'll have to call "Bulldust". It's very easy for people to make claims about tapping other people, but to say that someone tapped a Machado in a demonstration IS a big deal. The Machados are known throught the BJJ world and were former multiple time Brazilian BJJ champions (before there were World titles). They have also placed or won at ADCC in submission grappling. I'm a black belt in BJJ. I can play with purple belts (who are themselves excellent grapplers) and do very well against brown belts. My instructor plays with me. His instructors, the Machado's, play with him. This is why I find it very hard to believe that some guy unknown to the grappling world has tapped the Machados.

BJJ teaches safe ways how to take someone down and avoid their strikes. In some cases, this involves strikes on behalf of the BJJ'er. -
treebranch, Which Machado was it? Or was it a student? If so, what grade were they? You ask why is it so hard to believe that this guy could submit them? How about because what you're saying is nearly like saying some guy no-one has ever heard of submitted Rickson. How about because JJ Machado is considered one of the best submission grappling experts in the world, so if some guy tapped him or his brothers in a demonstration in front of a lot of people, I'd have thought more people would have heard of it.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Drop my level, double leg takedown. Or Knock him out before he even started to throw punches. Why wait for him to start the fight? -
Jujitsu vs. BJJ
JohnnyS replied to BLH28's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Judo and some ju-jitsu schools will teach a lot of the same things on the ground as BJJ. The biggest differences are emphasis. BJJ emphasizes groundwork, whereas most Judo schools emphasis throwing and only enough groundwork to survive on the ground until the match is restarted. An armbar is an armbar and a choke is a choke, but the transitions and set-ups are what set BJJ apart. There are of course some great newaza experts in Judo, but generally the sophistication and the intricies are at a much higher level in BJJ. -

The reason I asked those questions Warp, is because by doing as you described you leave yourself open to be choked and armbarred. A simple counter for what you descrive is for the person on the mount to just lock their arms straight on the ground and your technique is nullified. In other words, what you describe WON'T WORK ! -

Warp Spider, I have some technical questions for you: 1) When you're under mount, and you reach up to grab your opponent's head to slam it into the ground, what's protecting your neck from being choked. Also, what's to stop your opponent just armbarring you? 2) Say you manage to grab your opponent's head with your unnaturally long arms from under mount, how do you stop him countering your move by just locking his arms out straight on the ground and basing-out? 3) Who have you tried this on? Have you gone into a BJJ school and managed to pull this off? -
Judo vs Aikido
JohnnyS replied to YoungGrasshopper's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I don't just mean in a tournament, but in the dojo also. Competition is a stimulus to improve, but if you don't need to improve because you're not being challenged then you won't improve. -

Turbo7, what's wrong with competition? Without competition, there is no need to improve or evolve. -

Warp, watch any boxing match and you'll see the boxer who wants to clinch can always get it. Your other comments show you're being a troll.
