Thank you -
I am trying to repeat it as much as i can
-
That's actually a good advice. I will try it with my next kata
-
I am not worried about sparring itself, I am worried about my left ankle injury that might not allow me to spar !
-
Osu , I will check with him soon
-
I just want to know if you are able to do grading without fighting ?!! as I might have a bit of problem with fighting discussed in a previous thread : http://www.karateforums.com/can-you-spar-with-only-1-leg-vt46322.html I will check with my sensei soon but I want to know your opinions regarding this issue before I discuss it with him.
-
That's exactly my question. if you can fight without relying on your left leg front kicks or not? and if yes, do you have any advice about how to do it ?!
-
It's nice when karate help you improving someone you love congrats for your son btw
-
I already did and he is happy with continuing training but my point is can I spar using only my right leg for doing front kicks as I can do side and back kicks with both legs and I can jump and bear weight on my left leg as well ?!!
-
Yes, you are right but it's only a matter of not being able to imagine karate without sparring !
-
Totally agree with you, but mine wouldn't heal !!! unless I have a surgical operation which the GP thinks it's not necessary at this stage. it has been there for 7 years and never affected me but when I started the bag work I discovered it
-
My GP recommended using an ankle support on training and do whatever I like as long as it's not painful and that's what I am currently doing.
-
Thanks for sharing your experience

I know the title is very weird, but that's actually my question. In a previous thread I asked how can I strengthen my left leg kicks but now after doing a CT scan on my left ankle, I discovered that I had a small old broken bone that didn't heal at all and this is the cause for pain and a bit of swelling of my left ankle. It's painful when I hit something as in bag work (only when I kick with the front of my foot) so I wont be able to do much bag work with my left leg. the question is: with this current situation, will I be able to spar or not ??!!!

I actually feel lost after each new kata . today was my 3rd kata and I am completely lost

Safroot replied to Nidan Melbourne's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
For me, I am just starting but what I am currently doing is: 1- KF for sure (found it while I was googling GKR) 2- fight quest series on Youtube (found it through HAWKMOON) 3- self defense articles (got the idea from one of the threads on KF) 4- Various articles and videos about Kyokushin karate and Mas Oyama to understand my style more (most of them through Hawkmoon) 5- kick strengthening exercises videos on Youtube (recommended by some members to improve my left leg kicks) Thanks Hawkmoon as most of what I am reading and watching were recommended by you -

Safroot replied to Himokiri Karate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I haven't heard about it before but I have done a bit of search and I think it's a tough MA relying more on weapons !!!! That's what I have found in my search : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalaripayattu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsUai4wt6Yk and the best is FIGHT QUEST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aevd3Vqylk Wish this would help and wish to meet one of their fighters one day -
Anger many times needs and outlet. That outlet can be anything you would like it to be (although I would suggest it be something healthy). When you bottle it up it festers inside of you and eventually you explode. Karate helped me by both giving me an outlet for all the aggression and anger that I had built up and, when I started caring about what it meant to be a Martial Artist, it gave me an example to live with. It showed me how to let go of all of the things that I had been building in my twisted tower of hate. Once I was able to get rid of the anger and learn patience, my life got 1000x better. It was not easy. I made a goal for myself and through sheer will I overcame my insecurities. I had to teach myself that what others thought about me was not as important as I had made it. I learned to pick and choose what I let effect me and how it effected me. That wasn't easy. At first it was insurmountably difficult to separate critiques from personal attacks. However, through Karate I was again able to learn patience and learn how to have confidence in myself. Confidence is the greatest tool one can have to battle that victim mentality. Confidence allows me to take criticism and say "You're right, I could work on that" without taking it as a personal attack. Thanks so much Zaine for taking time to answer my questions. it's actually a good answer that I really need
-
Great experience as well Zaine, just have 2 questions for you: 1- How karate helped you to control your anger (I really need to learn how to do it) ? 2-was it easy to change your victim mentality ? how did you do it ? sorry for lot of questions but theses topics are really very interesting to me
