  1. Today I have received my Gi and it was my first class to practice with it. I felt very weird at the beginning when I put it on but then I liked it. Feeling my real journey just started today .... very excited
  2. for sure I am lucky the problem is on Thursdays with the tough instructor I go back home in pieces, couldn't move an arm or leg for 2-3 days after
  3. Then ask you doctor for a muscle relaxant & stronger pain killer !
  4. Sensei8, first of all wish your back is getting better, secondly I completely agree with your doctor, if you pinched a nerve you will have this shooting pain radiating to you legs. Ibuprofen is a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) which is good for pain and inflammation, usually it's safe to take up to 2400mg daily (according to the Australian guidelines). for long term use it might affect your stomach, elevate your blood pressure or worsen your asthma (if you have) so it's always better to take it after food and check your blood pressure every now and again if you are going to use it long term. I guess you might ask your doctor to put you on a muscle relaxant as well if the problem is not relieved by Ibuprofen alone. That's my advice as a pharmacist and wish you get better soon
  5. I completely agree with you ninjanurse! When i teach i will vary how i teach with whomever i have. The quality of techniques i find is way more important than the quantity. because when it comes to the crunch time when a person has to use it they would rather be able to use an effective technique over lots of terrible ones. Solid post
  6. they both do .... but we are not at the same level of fitness at all
  7. That's pretty good way to do it
  8. totally agree with you
  9. yes that would be the best
  10. That's what I think too .... it's always good to go beyond the limit but to a certain limit too It's difficult for me as a white belt student who just started 1 month ago from a zero level of fitness to do the same count as a black belt guy who has been training for years .... bit unfair
  11. which instructor you like more, the one who tells you to keep doing the exercise (push-ups, crunches, ...) as much as you can even at slow pace till others finish or that who insists on completing the count till the end even if you can't ? and why ?
  12. I am more than happy to do heaps of work and effort to do this. When I first started karate, sparring was my main challenge as I was really afraid of it & now it becomes more & more challenging. For this reason I am trying to find the right technique to compensate my left anklre problem while sparring.
  13. I am training in Kyokushin ... I will speak to my instructor soon
  14. yes, you got a clear picture of my situation and that's good to find someone who has similar problem and can handle it, getting more optimistic about my situation now
  15. Solid post as well as solid advice. This should be not a problem with your sensei. However, the sparring portion shouldn't take you into the next testing cycle. If it does, I'd hold off on your next testing cycle until the one after that. Btw, how's your ankle doing today? Thanks for asking sensei8, my ankle is good it's only painful in certain positions and when I hit something (like a bag) with the front of my foot (not with side or back kicks). Not sure what will happen next but waiting for a referral to a specialist and hopefully he/she don't ask me to stop karate and finish my MA journey before it even starts
  16. Thanks Roninkai , I will be careful
  17. The problem is it might not heal at all as it has been there for at least 7 years!! I will be referred to a specialist and I will wait for his/her opinion. till then I will practice karate as long as my ankle is not painful and that's my GP advice anyway.
  18. For sure I will
  19. Great experience, thanks for sharing it with us
  20. No worries, it's always good to share experiences
