  1. Thanks for the advice , for sure I will
  2. I was planing to start Muay Thai training over there but when I visited them & spoke to the instructors I didn't feel comfortable or motivated at all. If you want it just for fitness, I would say it will be great but art-wise I had a big question mark. This is a review on their facebook page that has been posted earlier this month : The only positive thing I could probably say about this martial arts school is that my sons trainer was good with the children and had good communication with the parents. Since enrolling in the school even upon enrolment, the front desk staff had no customer service and rude attitudes. That should have been the first warning sign. However, the owner really needs to learn better communication skills and how to keep his clients happy (that is if he really cares about them!). My weekly fees were always paid on time with no problems. I had asked the owner if I could please pay the $22 trophy fee for the presentation night that is occurring this month, the day after the deadline, as being so close to Christmas money is a little tight. His response was arrogant explaining I am the third parent to ask and he is making no exceptions for anyone, no sympathy at all! I had decided to cancel our membership because I feel I shouldn't be supporting a company who don't care about their clientele. It was one day after the deadline and he would have gotten his twenty two dollars before 9am still ensuring he could order enough trophies! He did not care that I decided to pull my son out of the centre, however he got his administration lady to reply to my email explaining the weekly fee of $17 will still be taken out of my account until the 9th December even though we no longer will be attending. Since commencing the school and seeing the trophies in their display cabinet, my son has been motivated to do well in boxing so that he could receive a trophy at the end of the year. My son always asks if he will be getting a trophy which I had been telling him yes at the end of the year. It's a shame he could not accommodate and allow me to pay before he put the order in that morning. Now a 4 year old has been let down and won't be receiving an award he has been working hard for. " to be fair there are lots of good reviews as well !
  3. Thanks Sensei8 , now I am extending my MA knowledge through this post as I have never heard about this before
  4. she is really enjoying it but what to do at home, just try to repeat whatever she learned in the class ?
  5. Good advice , thanks Spartacus ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
  6. The owner is in his early 40s ! Tbh it's a big school with lots of members (mainly kids though) but do they offer quality training or not , that's the question!
  7. My daughter (4.5 years old) recently started karate class & she is enjoying it to the max . My question is what to expect from her in terms of improvement (how can you tell if she is on the right progress/improvement track, what to look for ? ) How can we help her at home to improve her skills ? Any advice is much appreciated
  8. What are your thoughts about a single Martial art school that teaches Karate, Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ, BKJ Arnis, Ryu Kon Kai Kobudo, Seitei Iaido and Seitei Jodo. The School has 1 instructor teaching Muay Thai (started training 5 years ago), 1 instruvtor for BJJ & rest of the arts with 1 instructor (Owner of the school) with the help of some of his own students. Does such school sound like a McDojo ?! Do you think that 1 instructor can really teach 4 or 5 different REAL arts ?!
  9. Hey, it's cool...better late than never, right. Besides, life gets in the way, whether one likes it or not. Thank you, Safroot!! No worries sensei8 , wish you had a great one already ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‚
  10. You do more Cradio work in the Gym or you do weights as well ?! I actually started Karate after having a random Blood test & found that my liver enzymes high (fatty liver) , my cholesterol levels high & my blood sugar level is at the very upper normal when I was 30 ! After 3 months of Karate training (1.5 hours/week) in addition to better diet (specially stop drinking coke) every thing went back to normal, my GP was so much surprised & asked how did I do it & encouraged me to keep doing the same and that's another thing I love about Karate For me, in Karate I get better health outcomes while doing something I enjoy & nice people to encourage me which is not the case with the gym most of the time ! Solid post, Safroot!! To the bold type above... I do them equally!! If not, one will be stronger than the other. At first, I concentrated with the cardio, and then when the time was right, I introduced weight training into my daily routine. I would say theoritically doing both gym (weights & cardio) & dojo training is the best practice but there is no absolute best practice that apply to everyone
  11. Thanks Alan. " Healthy Sustainable lLifestyle " . That's my main goal, specially SUSTAINABLE ๐Ÿ˜‚
  12. Hi Guys, I am looking for a pdf copy of : "The Kyokushin Way" by Mas Oyama. Is it something easy to find or not ?! Soft copies need a fortune

  14. As I mentioned above Nidan , it is all about limited training time unfortunately I am trying to get the best out of the available time. I tried once before to do Karate & Gym at the same time but at one stage I lost interest in both & stopped training completely, that's in addition to the financial part of it to pay for both. I am trying to find a dojo that offers gym facility as well & I guess this might help.
  15. Thanks DWx, yes my Karate practice is just to keep me fit as much as I can. we usually do about 30-45 mins of good Cardio every class so I guess I am ok with that but if I am going to compete at one stage better to add Gym sessions to my training then. For me it's all about limited training time, is it better to do Karate in the whole available time (max 2-3 hours a week) or split it between Karate & Gym ? and that's why I started that topic. Regarding the muscle mass, you have raised a good point which I guess is very true. I have a friend of mine who is pretty big muscular guy & he has won couple of karate competitions before & I can never say his flexibility was affected by his muscle mass but lots of people are saying the opposite !
  16. Balance between muscle mass & flexibilty is really good point & make sense. Thanks Wado Heretic
  17. That's actually the main thing I have been doing in this forum so I guess I am on the right track. Honestly I got most of my "little" MA knowledge from here That's ok. Keep reading, learning, and once you do, go check what we say here against other sources. Another important step is to not overwhelm yourself with too many subjects at once. Research one thing for a while, and give it a good focus. Then branch out. Thanks for your advice Budisho . That's what I am trying to do to dig deep into Kyokushin Karate and learn more & more about it. I am always trying to search for its topics here in the forum to read more about it in addition to internet browsing as well.
  18. My goal is to improve my fitness levels & to lose weight as well but does the one's muscle mass/weight affects his/her MA performance ?
  19. That's actually the main thing I have been doing in this forum so I guess I am on the right track. Honestly I got most of my "little" MA knowledge from here
  20. I am just wondering if MA practitioners in general need to go to the gym to do weights or the training in the dojo / Practice at home is enough ?! I have heard before that it's better for the martial artist not to be heavy as this helps them to perform better but not sure if this is true or not ?
  21. Good one , I have to try it!
  22. ใฉใ†ใ„ใŸใ—ใพใ—ใฆ Dลitashimashite Thanks Dr. Google
  23. Good points, Thanks for sharing Alan. the vocabulary & terminology was a big problem for me when I was training before, the instructor would say something in Japanese that I couldn't understand and then I will start looking at the higher grades students & copy them, you can imagine the mess I was doing with the combinations, if I had mirror in front of myself I wouldn't stop laughing at what I was doing. regarding the theories & culture, I just have started reading Mas Oyama's book "Essential Karate" hopefully this would help.
  24. I will try to Keep an open mind. Thanks sensei8 for the solid advice as usual. I guess focusing on Kyokushin at this stage will be the best to do as I am still very beginner and later on I would look into different arts. I just want to go as deep as I can in Kyokushin
  25. I guess you like the feeling It's really one of the best posts I have read on the forum, I keep coming back to read it. Osu Sampai
