  1. Hpefully I like the feel of the new dojo , I am dying to go back to training
  2. I think your willpower will depend on the priority of your goal in your life, the more important your goal is in your life the more enthusiastic / sucssesful you will be to develop your willpower.
  3. Thanks so much Alan, I hope I can figure it out within the 2 free lessons 👍🏻
  4. Hi All, I would like to figure out, how would you know if the dojo you are training at is really teaching you the Art of Karate or the art wouldn't matter much as long as they collect money ?! Don't get me wrong, I know some instructors earn their living from their dojos which is fair enough but I am trying to re-start my training in a new dojo close to my new place & I have 2 free lessons to try it out. In my old dojo ( where I have trained about only 3 months ) I wasn't sure but all what I could feel is that they don't give you much individual attention, all grades training at the same time doing the same thing, how do you expect a rookie like myself to cope & get the right techniques ?! Is the privates lessons /sessions (it cost fortune !) the only way to do it ? I really want to be on the right track to start my journey this time !
  5. That's really a good post. I guess I will need to assign a budget to buy some of those book soon
  6. Hi, I am starting my Muay Thai Journey next week. I have tried to find some online books / website speaking about the Muay Thia art but wasn't that lucky. Does anyone here practising Muay Thai & can direct me to a good book explaining the history / philosophy of the art as I find this very important for me to give some depth to my training. Thanks in advance for your help
  7. I can imagine why students like myself would leave a karate dojo and look for other martial arts (whether it's MMA or any other art). I have spent 6 months training in a Karate dojo and then left, at the beginning I was really enjoying it and very happy with the fitness outcome of my training but never heard anyone in the class speaking about the art of karate or the philosophy of the art which I guess would have given the training more depth. One of my goals was self deafens but really I have never been taught how to use the karate skills in a real life situations. i have practised self deafens techniques for only 10 minutes in 6 months time. sometimes the instructors are to be blamed if they take it as a business not art ! I guess it's hard to find real martial art school now !
  8. Check this, might be of help : http://www.karatecanberra.com.au/ http://dojos.com.au/ACT/Canberra/
  9. Expect anything from GKR ... It's the worst Karate school in Australia ,, for them, it's all about money not karate. Try to find another school for your daughter & don't waste your&her time & money with such people.
  10. Merry Christmas everyone
  11. Congrats Canadian77, it's really very well deserved. you are really one of the best members in this forum thanks for your support & encouragement, you deserve the best Enjoy you MA journey & KF
  12. first of all Welcome to KF. My situation was exactly like you I started my MA journey with Kyokushin karate when I was 31. Stretching, Stretching, Stretching is the answer & every now & again you will get this kind of aches & soreness but that's OK. you will be able to know if such pain is injury or soreness ... believe me you will
  13. Thanks mazzybear, hopefully I can pick it up quickly
  14. Congrats for all of you .... well deserved
  15. Thanks so much, sure I will
  16. Thanks Patrick ...
  17. ... Did you find great differences between both styles in terms of training ?!
  18. Hi All, I really miss the forum and every single member , it has been very tough at work the last couple of months. I haven't been to the dojo since 1/7/2014 I even didn't have time to train at home .... tough life with 6-7 days /week at work. Hopefully I can be back again to my training after Christmas . Feel like I will start again from scratch but this doesn't bother me at all Wish every member in the Forum is good & happy
  19. 1. IMHO there is nothing wrong with asking your sensei if he thinks you are ready for your grading... it's all in how you ask 2. Quite frankly if the hours you spent were the only criteria, you should get out of there as quickly as you can. Thanks for advice
  20. Your welcome sir! ..and yes I do feel if a student is 'good enough' and so on an instructor will ask (or tell ) a student to grade when the time is right!
  21. I got your point and completely agree with you. For me it's better to be told you are not ready than you have failed your grading
  22. Although our dojo is not strict traditional one but I prefer your opinion ... wait until the Sensei tells me I am ready but at the same time you need to know your progress and how far you are from the accepted level of grading
  23. Thanks Hawkmoon for the story and the advice. I think I will ask him soon but at the same time I feel like if I am good enough & ready for grading, he will tell me even without asking !!
  24. Hi all, I am very close to finish the training hours required for my first grading (40 hours ). My questions are: 1- Shall I ask my Sensei when my grading is or it's better to wait until he tells me ?! 2- Is it only the required training hours the determinant for going through grading or your Sensei's opinion in your performance plays a role as well & might delay the grading process ?!
  25. Thx so much for your help, i live in NSW so I guess it might be different i have to check Check with NSW Police then. Go into your local station and ask for their seargant or most senior staff on duty, and they should be able to help. Otherwise go through the Police Website (http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/) Usually they are normally quite helpful. Thanks so much for your help, I will
