i dont think he will ever eye-ball my girl again

Rofl... yeh, need to stay calm, man! I never learnt this recently until BJJ where if ou get angry and resort to strength, you end up wasting all your energy and being puffed out while the guy's still on top of you. I don't think I would have hit him, dude... If I got angry and felt threatened I most probably would have, but if I kept calm I wouldn't have... Girls don't like violence, and I don't fight in front of girls if I can help it, especially girlfriends! Hitting people does hurt.. I've busted my knuckles a couple of times and didn't even know at the time, kind of realised later though =p -
Maybe the guys didn't know any takedowns ? I doubt that though.. If a striker manages to keep his range then it would be kinda hard to take them down, but if they don't know you're a grappler, then I reckon you should be able to take them down with ease. I still think a decent grappler should take a striker to the ground, even if he gets hit in the process.

YODA, yeh.. I think 15 inch biceps will look good enough on its own! I know a guy after 10 years in his MA got a tat of his style when he got his black belt .. can't think of what it's called the symbol thing, you know ?

I don't train in something unless I feel it will help me in combat. My goal when training is to learn how to fight. Sport orientated MAs I don't train in. I don't really see any benefit in training in weapons I can't use on the street, although it would probably help me with weapons I can use on the street. Yeah, it's not a 'martial art' unless it's likened to combat, otherwise it's just an art, which is what the WWF wrestling is - not that I see any beauty in it.

YODA, I ain't been doing too good.. I haven't done any cardio, nor have I cut back down on food.. I think I might try and gain weight instead, seems easier =p

Can I ask why the other guy failed ? I thought students weren't asked to grade unless their instructors think they're ready.

Hey, YODA, I had a look. =) That site also contains some good articles.

Groundfighting Structure

YODA, I'm still learning how to do the side control and mount properly.. I don't really hold it any differently.. e.g. I have mount, person I'm mounted on goes to grab my groin - leaves himself open for punches when he does that. You can wrap your legs around their shins to stabilise yourself some more with the mount. I'd most likely go for 'normal' punches, that being the big right hand coming down on almost a 90 degree angle. -
No, I don't think I'll be getting a tatoo... For a couple of weeks I thought a barb wire tat would look hardcore on one of my arms, but I figured I'd need at least 15 inch biceps for it to really stand out and I'd only regret it later. I was just an impulse at the moment that I felt like one.

Can you say owned ? This exercise is damn good. I wanna incorporate more plyometric exercises now. Just be careful and don't land on the edge of whatever your jumping over like me, heh.

I was wasking my kickboxing instructor if I could go in tournies after a few months.. He said he would, but never did. He then told me at the start of the year, he'd put me in at the end of the year. That would have been 2 years training for me, 'cept I quit that dojo. I recently started BJJ, seems like there's no time limit before you go in tournies. I guess it depends on your instructor and dojo, as well as being *able* to fight. _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy. [ This Message was edited by: Bon on 2002-03-23 00:58 ]

I wouldn't worry too much if he hasn't said anything to you.. Probably acting all macho in front of his friends 'cause of the bruised ego. At my school, they *have* to suspend you if you get into a fight. The rules are set by the Department of Education, not them. That's why I've been suspended twice, even when I didn't start one of them. Everyone in society doing MA ? It's not really possible. You can't force society to do things. A lot of people don't like the thought of it, especially my family. My mother said 'his father and eye haven't got a violent bone in our body, but look at him, he loves it, see?'. A lot of people don't take too well to it, and with a closed mind I don't think they would learn much, it would become another burden they must endure in their lives. I think a lot of people would use it for all the wrong reasons too. It's almost giving them tools and knowledge to hurt and possibly kill people as an alternative to guns if someone wishes. Essentially when you learn martial arts, you're training for war/combat, IMO.

Hehe, try it out on yourself ? It might work for your body or something ? I've heard of doing reps with a weight so you fail on 8, then when you get to 12 reps, you add more weight so you fail at 8. This seems more efficient for strength 'cause you're lifting heavier and putting more stress on the body as opposed to yours, where you don't lift as heavy and put less stress on the muscles. Seems good if you want a combination of endurance and strength.. But, I think endurance comes from lifting heavy weights. If you can lift heavy weights, you can do lighter weights longer.

If I lived in a country where you had to register yourself as a black belt, I just wouldn't grade..

He wants to fight again after being sat on his ass 4 times ? LoL.. I'd definately say no, what the hell for ? If he does start a fight again, I'd really be giving it to him, no mercy, no remorse. Personally, if someone starts a fight with me, I assume they want to hurt to me so I'm gonna do as much damage as possible to them. This isn't in the dojo, there are no rules in a street fight, use the most effective and brutal techniques to end it quickly. I think in some other countries once you get a black belt, you have to register yourself as a black belt.

I weighed myself yesterday, I'm 81 kgs, or 178.5 lbs.. I want to get down to 170 lbs.
-
Hmmm...... I don't think anyone will be hassling him again. he made the other guy look like a fool by sitting him on his ass twice. The fact he let him get up and get his wind would have looked like he wasn't worried.

invulnerable ? Kick the phat guy in the gut!
-
You showed great control. KickChick told me a quote before that I like 'stronger is the man who wins over himself than over other men'. You only used the force necessary to restrain him, obviously if you felt any real danger you would have done some damage to him. It's obvious you can fight and he's probably aware you could have seriously hurt him, so I don't think he'll be coming back any time soon. Plus, you haven't hurt him, only his ego and aren't likely to get his mates after you. If a couple of people saw it, it's likely you won't have anyone messing with you again.
-
LOL! No, I don't! Maybe your dojo requires that..
-
but it's next to impossible to not tense the leg up to some extent isn't it ?
-
haha, AnonymousOne, I haven't done them yet.. I haven't been training seriously for a few months, I have so much school work at the moment. We get assessment tasks for every subject at the same time, I'm doing my second last one at the moment.. No excuse I know, but I'll be training hardocre in the holidays every day.

I still put my money on the kickboxer. Being a kickboxer myself, I've fought boxers on the street and I think if it wasn't for my feet I would have lost. One of them had quicker hands than me, he was a smaller dude, but I just kept my distance so he couldn't hit me using my feet. Everytime he came forward, I would kick him a lead leg into the thigh. He had no idea what to do about my kicks, he got really frusrated, started calling me a girl and attempted some kicks himself which were futile. One of my feints was set up with a kick which sent him off balance and he ended up smashing his head against a metal rail which goes down the stairs to support people. He would have been so sore the next day!
