Bunkai is self defense application. It would be terribly illogical not to change it. It seems the reason for practicing self defense is to be able to defend yourself. If the practice hurts and you can barely do it, it will end poorly when someone is really trying to hurt you. Better to modify it to something applicable in real life.

After the test involved you're pretty proud of the electric tape stripes on that brown belt.

In a stroke of irony Randy Savage, or Randy Poffo, died today. Graduation Day. I went to my neice's graduation ceremony today, and as Pomp and Circumstance was playing I twirled one finger in the air and said "Oh Yeah" in memory of one of my childhood heroes. So the next time you snap into a slim jim, think of Randy. Randy is survived by his brother, The Genius Lanny Poffo, who is now Lanny the Non-Smoking Dad. lanny is now a motivational speaker, loved by children in his area. Rest in Peace Randy.

Youtube mp3 converter. Brother in law is smarter than me. Check out a band called Vomitron. Here you go. Also on youtube is a band called Powerglove who do great game music covers. If you're into Final Fantasy, check out the Black Mages. They do orchestrated covers of the old Uematsu stuff.I don't know where the extra time is, maybe I missed some of mine.

OK, you're talking about runners. I thought you were talking about entries in general. Yep, no need to fight a runner. But in a sparring situation, you should herd them into a corner and make them fight. It'll help them develop better than letting them run.

5/19 An hour and a half of yoga corpse pose after work.

So, someone has started a fight with you, you shove them off of you and they are now at a distance, possibly reaching for a weapon. You're saying there is no reason to close in? If you can escape then by all means do so. But to say there is never a reason to move in is far too simplistic a view. Beyond that, someone who is being combative will be moving in on you. Therefore to train for such a situation, your training partners need to develop the ability to move in intelligently.

Instinctive defense? Have you noticed how often great defense is a variation of the fetal position?

I do a little yoga myself.

I would say to start grappling, but then Tallgeese will tell me to train firearms... The reason for no slams when someone pulls guard is that you risk causing injury while not really doing anything to improve position. OP, the ranges do blend some, so I see what your saying. Also, at 5'7 training with tall people, my kicking range is their punching range. I can use a side kick as a defense against a jab.

Fun stuff. We'll have to do it again soon.

It's natural and a sign of intelligence for a beginner to be afraid of pain. Pain hurts. It's our job as seniors and instructors to ease them into harder contact. A little at first, and as they become tougher and more confident upping the level of contact and intensity. Hit a newbie too hard to soon and they'll either quit or be gunshy for a long time. Don't hit them at all and they'll have a false confidence in untested technique.

I always considered getting out of the way to be step 1.

Exactly. Just spar honestly. No need to hurt each other, just a little pain is all.

Most trapping starts with a simple parry, so if the trapping doesn't work, you're still in a good position to defend or counterattack. Maybe they aren't as high percentage as a boxing cover, but I would argue tahat a triangle choke is lower percentage than a keylock, but still useful. Also for weapon defense, they become more important. A boxing cover against a crowbar is bad for the radius and ulna. A good redirection and trap across is great.

Every time I hear non-contact I imagine a BJJ class run that way. Picture someone doing the BJJ wormy dog butt-scootin boogie and butterfly sweep while someone across the room practices holding base. What's next? No touch armbars through chi projection? By the Holiness of Gene Lebell's Pink Gi I hope to never see the day.

Just Dylan and myself. He's starting to get over being a runner.

Euphemism for CRAP HAS HIT THE FAN AND WE ARE COVERED IN IT. A good senior high school wrestler has 4 years of a specialized martial art involving putting someone on the ground. 4 years of hard practice is like a first kyu. A lot of these people are out there. So yeah, better have a decent ground game.

Hello! Thank you. And yes, but I use the name very loosely. As there is no actual drunken system that I have noticed, I haven't studied one. Just the CLF branch and an old 'entertainment' form of Drunken Boxing. I love the Shaw Brothers movies. Sam Seed and Silver Fox put on a great show. Jackie Chan was young, Sammo Hung was chubby. Ahh the good old days before I was born. Ever seen Dance of the Drunken Mantis?
