  1. Dolemite 2: The Human Tornado
  2. Seems reasonable. We have an hour for 1st dan. Switching partners every few minutes. Stand up fighting with some throws. Man, I need to get back into Shodan Shape.
  3. So we understand a little better, for the 14 3 minute rounds for 3rd dan, how many fighters of what grade? How long between rounds? Are they trying to put they guy down or trying to push him to his limits? What do you do when the testing student drops someone 30 seconds into the round? Call it a round or throw someone new in for the remaining time? What are the fight rules with what gear?
  4. Common mistakes include trying to sweep from too flat a position, and trying to sweep before breaking their base. Avoid being flat on your back. Most sweeps require getting on 1 hip. Think of their base as being like a table. A table will fall toward a missing leg, so either take away a table leg or feel one missing, then sweep toward it. Hope this helps.
  5. I hope to get to see it. I thought it was time to put these to digital format. All the good stuff seems to be on VHS. Although I did find a copy of Chuck Norris' The Octagon on DVD a couple weeks ago. The fact that someone thought to bring it to a new format restored some of my faith in humanity.
  6. Thanks. I really love these drills. Anyone else have examples? It doesn't have to be you doing them.
  7. I prefer 44 awesome mini- kata. Makes it easier to blend them together in a random flow based on fed energy later.
  8. Is Skeletor a bodybuilder with a flesh-eating face fungus? What is Orco? How is the leader of the "Masters of the Universe" I mean the UNIVERSE, some roided out dude with a sword and a rather suspect costume? Oh well. Chewbacca lives on Endor.
  9. If they teach San Shou, it has some practical application. Kickboxing with throws, how can you go wrong? Qin Na is a broad term, but some aspects of it will be practical. The San Shou makes me think the school has some concept of reality.
  10. New toys are always great. I picked up a really cheap knife about a week ago, modified the sheath a bit, and it comes out of my pocket like butter. Exciting stuff.
  11. Whatever you call them, most arts have them. Uke attacks, you defend and counter. Post video, or an explanation of your art's drills, and the guiding ideas behind them. I'll start. These are our first few sets of angle drills. They work off of the principles of Evade, Stun, Unbalance and Control. The first 3 sets start to lay the foundation and only work through the evade and stun. They teach you to get of the line of attack, redirect, and counterstrike, with hips behind the strike. The next two sets go from the initial attack all the way through to controlling or destroying as needed. I did mess up on Purple #1. You'll have to forgive me, cameras still freak me out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VfjAOxep2s
  12. Here are some ideas I had, based on your video. Maybe you'll get something out of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtczcSVX5h4
  13. As much as it pains me to say this, if the callouses help you or are a point of pride, then you should just wear shoes around your momma.
  14. Our new guy showed up a little late the other night, so I told him when he came in "You're late, that's 1000 jabs on the speed bag." I was rather surprised when he nether laughed or told me off, but just started jabbing the bag. So I asked him just what he was doing, to which he replied '1000 jabs" I had to let the guy know I was joking. I may be a half decent combative arts teacher, but there is no way that it is my place in life to hand out penalties to a Marine who's been hit with an IED. Now that I think of it, maybe the Marine life made the idea of such a penalty seem normal to him.
  15. I couldn't find video of the exact version of the Peterson Roll that I'm talking about. Search it on youtube, and imagine the same movement, but with a deep kimura lock held the whole time.
  16. I like seeing video of these ideas, it's hard to imagine these things from text. "Insert tab A into Slot B" in broken Japanese is too confusing. I think you're onto some good ideas. On the suplex defense, you may want to frame higher on the arm giving a more viable attack, also shoot your hips forward more to help break the grip. Then even if you are taken down, you have a sitout and Peterson roll.
  17. I don't count on ANYTHING as a fight ender. The cannibal in Florida was shot and just got angry. So they shot him some more.
  18. From the lock setup you showed, I like to turn all the way around and turn it into a sort of straight armbar with a top wristlock.
  19. Good stuff. Never thought of a suplex defense in kata. Nice interpretation.
  20. Mako was so many awesome things. Conan's wizard, a cook/sensei in Sidekicks, Jeff Speakman's sensei in A Perfect Weapon, a firebender. Dobbersky, I had you figured as an older guy.
  21. This, I can see. It would help to mentally be more aware of having done so. Dropping your knife could mean death.
  22. I see no problem with asking, though if the classes are all for the same group, I don't see what good the rank would do you. Maybe ask about private lessons.
  23. Well, that's a horse of a different color. With no mention of previous experience, well, reread your post as though it was written by a new student. Even if there is a strict rule on time in for rank, maybe you could be allowed in the advanced classes as well. The belt on your waist is of little consequence if the advanced training is available.
  24. You can order a black belt straight from Century for $5.
  25. Sounds like a 90's country western line dance.
