Aikido
Nevinyrral replied to muttley's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I train karate and I decided to try aikido. I only did like 10 lessons, it was fun and I learned lot of new things but I broke my arm (not during training) so I had to stop, and now I'm a bit afraid to go back to aikido. In my opinion it adds a lot to karate, and is very usefull in self defence or for kata aplications. -
Your Proudest Moment as a Martial Artist
Nevinyrral replied to cheesefrysamurai's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My proudest moment was winning gold in kumite. Although it was really low level competition I was really happy, because I was sure I will lose first round. -
Why I may drop karate
Nevinyrral replied to guird's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I am training in shotokan karate and out sensei also has kick boxing class. For me karate works well in kick boxing. Only thing I have problem with is kicking with my shin, I cant get the distance right. -
Your martial art (s) why did you choose them?
Nevinyrral replied to chrissyp's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I started kung fu and ju jitsu in middle school to get in shape and learn how to defend my self. I wasnt bullied but I did not feel safe as most of my friends were physically stronger than me. Unfortunately had to leave the style due to lack of time. Later when I wanted to get back the dojo was closed due to lack of students. So I decided to go to karate. First I tried calling kiokushin instructor but no one answered so I called shotokan and I'm training ever since. I also did some kick boxing and aikido but karate is just my thing. Right now my goal is to open my own school in the future. -
So...who's created their own style?
Nevinyrral replied to chrissyp's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It sound like some traditional mma. What I always wonder is if it is now even possible to create something new -

How far do you travel to train?
Nevinyrral replied to chrissyp's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have about 5-10 minutes walk to where I train karate -
Well I have few things I like to do in 2014: 1. I would like to get back in shape because of my broken arm I had half year break. 2. Attend some kind of seminar. 3. Be in the best 3 in some competition 4. Acquire sport trainer licence. 5. Acquire motorbike licence, and buy some bike

Just because someone tells you an organisation is McDojo it doesn't mean all their schools are useless. It always depend on invidual teacher what will you learn.

MMA KO'd!!
Nevinyrral replied to sensei8's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Can't they make full contact jiu jitsu tournaments or something, so that they would do mma, but under different name and slightly different rules? -
1) I was learning Gohon, Sanbon and Ippon kumite from white belt, so it might depend on your trainer. They even let me do free sparring 2) I dont know about Kakato geri, but the rest of technicues you asked for we learnt individually or in kata. It also might depend o0n trainer, school or organisation.

Help with duplicate licences??
Nevinyrral replied to Janey's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
As it was said before try contacting organisation that gave him his belt. If you cant remember what organisation was that, try finding people that trained with your husband. -
If you are under WKF shotokan, then its mostly kata or point fighting kumite. But it might be diffrent depending on tournament, also diffrent organisationns have diffrent rules. It would be best if you would ask your sensei or your friend.

What martial art do YOU prefer?
Nevinyrral replied to shanny_kimura's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have done some kung fu, ju jutsu, karate and aikido and for me karate works best. I like that its 'simple'. Nothing better than straight punches/kicks in quite natural stances. -
I love tekki shodan Really nice kata that dont need much space to perform

Beech training is fun until it gets to sparrig. Its ot nice when someone kicks sand in your eyes, and mostly its even unintentional
