  1. Wow there is a guy named like that And I was sure this post is about manga character
  2. It might depend on the style. Full contact styles of karate might be bad for ones body in a long run I think
  3. Also try to get as stretched and relaxed as possible. Its hard to make a good kich when you are all tensed up. And as with everything it all takes time, practie and experience.
  4. We also need to remember there were two types of kickboxig. One developed in Japan (mostly mixing some muay thai ad karate) and one that originated from american full cotact karate. And if im not mistaken kicking with shin was practiced for quite a log time in kyokushin and most K1 fighters came from that style
  5. Traditional martial arts, especially those that have limited contact sparring, fall into oblivion, because most people believe that with no contact you can not learn self-defense. Often, the same applies to those arts that do not have competitions. In my opinion, moving away from traditional martial arts is only temporary and due to popularity of MMA. Just look back at the history of K1. Many excellent karatekas began to move into the professional ring. Children practicing karate dreamed of K1. Many dojo changed to became kickboxing gym. But the initial interest in kickboxing subsided, and they began to return to tradition. All these are created the media and the public. They decide whatat any given time is more practical, more deadly, more profitable or simply healthier.
  6. Well done Ad dont worry about going against brown belts with higher katas. I'm brown belt myself and I tend to lose to white belts It only takes small mistake to lose, even if you are performig the highest kata of your style
  7. There is nothing wrong with blocking with forearm. I remember when I was in middle school doing kung fu and we did some blocking drills, and after just three or four block I couldnt lift my arm. But now I can execute block hard enough so it will hurt the oponent not me I my opinion traditional martial arts are better in the long run. Think about how long can anyone compete in boxing or mma. About till they are 50 is max. And in karate you can always go for kata competitions or point sparring.
  8. Is it full contact or point kumite? Either way stay focus and dont get nervous, just do what you learnt in dojo.
  9. I have a question that has been bothering e for a long time. Why are there a lot of multiple color gi's ie red top and black pants, or full black gi? And also what is the attidue of people thowards that kind of gi, as I have seen most people shun black gi. Thanks for answers.
  10. It also depends who is fighting who. I have a friend who can do a high kick out of nowhere. Its like he is standing in front of me, I'm watching him carefully and then bam, I feel pain in my head
  11. I do it horizontal. I think it all depends of how were you taught
  12. I have exactly opposite problem. But for me its more like I'm used to aim with my foot, so if i want to kick with shin, I have to aim behind the lego of my opponent.
  13. Low kicks are always useful. I personally use side kicks to make some room, cuz they are more powerfull than front kick for example. About head kick, well only if you are sure it would connect, or if you have a good follow up technic in case you miss.
  14. Isnt that subconscious through knowlege? I'd go with analysing. Wait for good moment, attack and run if there is oppening.
  15. In the schoolI train (shotokan) there are a lot of kids that have gi's from other styles, some even doboks. Instructor says that they can buy it later, when they will be sure they want to practicre shotokan or when they can afford new one. So I dont think someone would mind if you wear your old gi. They might even get curious and as when/what did you learn.
  16. Well if what youseek is getting in shape, I'd say any artwill be good for you (mayby not sumo ) It all depends if you wantand will give your all while training.
  17. I think you can learn a move or two, but they can be sloppy ( unless you are a genius). Try making some friends with people that know MA and ask them to help you
  18. This days I only do karate, rest was in high, middle and grade school. I changed styles when changing school but I found karate do be my thing so I stay with it. OSU
  19. I passed My friend explained it to me, and it turned out I knew this technicue, just got messed upwith names
  20. Hi, I'm having a test for my 4kyu this tuesday, but I missed few trainings because of my job and I dont know how to do Shiho-empi-uchi. Would be glad if anyone could explain it to me or post a video. Thanks
  21. Merry Christmas to everyone
  22. I started karate year ago and I'm now 21 so I dont think its too late for you. I think that with your kickboxing background you should get some things faster than someone without any MA experience. My friend has a black beld, and he got it after about nine years of training. And if you are wondering what style to choose, find out what styles are avalivable in your city and chceck them out and choose the one you like most.
  23. I want to wish all KF members an Easter filledwith favorite traditions and happy new memories, but most of all, an Eastern that renews your faith, uplifts your spirit, and fills your heart with joy
  24. I think its cool she/he has youtube channel. It would be nice if everyone on Karateforums had youtube and show his skilz and stuff.
