KickChick replied to shotochem's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hey no problem karatekid1975 ... "I wanna be a part of it ... New York, New York" ... oh well 2 hrs away will have to suffice! Back to subject .... You can gauge yor opponents actions in a spar ... He/she goes hard -- so do you! -

Last night after being disappointed that hardly anyone showed up for chat here (Fri. 9:00) I turned on ESPN to watch last years 2001US Open ISKA Karate Championships held in Disney FLA. WOW .... pretty awesome! Creative forms to music was unbelieveable ... Stephanie Flowers presentation to the William Tell overture (you know how fast that goes!) was flawless! Anyone going this year???? http://www.usopen-karate.com/ _________________ KarateForums Sensei 1st dan BlackBelt TKD(ITF) CardioKickboxing/Fitness Inst. ...you're so right Taikudo-ka! .... main reason for wanting to do some boxing! I can kick .... yes, I can punch but in Tae Kwon do over the years ... I have focused and concentrated primarily on the "kick" ... Jack!! .... -

I'm sure that most martial artists are pretty much aware of the difference in spar/fighting and street fighting. When we spar at our school we have full gear on and head cntact is only agreed upon between fighting opponents (if they so desire to make contact its ok then) Nobody has ever been seriously injured due to sparring. Now last weekend at competion .... rules were changed seconds before start to change sparring from round robin to knock down for ages 11 and up. Many of our students who could of and should of KO'd the other participants held back due to the mere fact that we don't spar like that in class... they weren't used to knock down sparring! Here was their chance to connect and would never have to see the "victim" ever again! No not a street fight but hey!

Good TKD Sparring sites
KickChick replied to TKD_McGee's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
ha...you are getting to know me too well McGee. This one is pretty good. It has helped me in the past... http://members.tripod.com/martial_arts_tips/ you can click on more tips link somewhere on bottom of this page that brings you to where you can purchase alot of sparring videos and books too also for internet videos ... I have found there isn't too much. You may want to do a search with TKD/Sparring/MPG and see what you come up with... -
No ... its not a "game" its a workout for the "common man" ... which you are obviously not AO. What we need is to get the populus off their keesters and do some activity .. if it involves some degree of ma (which it does ... maybe not to your definition) then halleleuiah! .... you may think it is a poor attempt but Billy is all the way to the bank ... and yet the dojang doors are opening up to these TaeBo enthusiasts who do want to get serious!

Only in America......can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance. Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink. Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front. Only in America......do banks leave both doors to the vault open and then chain the pens to the counters. Only in America......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollarsin the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage. Only in America......do we use answering machines to scree calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place. Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight. Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering. _________________ KarateForums Sensei 1st dan BlackBelt TKD(ITF) CardioKickboxing/Fitness Inst. Get "Gator" !!

Why is everyone comparing "taebo" ,<-- correct spelling to "sport" TKD ... I'm by no means sticking up for sport TKD but huh? .... kicks /puches/aerobics ... plain and simple. Billy has taken his workout to the bag now in newer videos. You all know how I feel about "taebo" ... my classes are very dissimilar .... we use the wavemaster and more kickboxing/boxing moves ..... http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=340&forum=14 and http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=1403&forum=14 .....oh and I am adding some of my drills/routines that I teach on my web page. _________________ KarateForums Sensei 1st dan BlackBelt TKD(ITF) CardioKickboxing/Fitness Inst. I personally like the ITU http://www.taekwondo.to/ (our school is currently looking into membership) "The International TaeKwonDo Union was formed in 1997 to provide an Organization for all who practice TaeKwonDo regardless of age, race, sex, religion, rank or style. We are governed by a Constitution/By-Laws and Board of Directors to ensure a 'Politics Free' environment, so all Members are treated equally." Quite impressed with the presentation of "forms" on site ... here you will see traditional! _________________ KarateForums Sensei 1st dan BlackBelt TKD(ITF) CardioKickboxing/Fitness Inst. Blonde joke - A blind man enters a Ladies Bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a drink. After sitting there for awhile, he yells to the bartender, "Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?" The bar immediately falls absolutely quiet. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, sir, you should know five things ..... 1 - The bartender is a blonde girl. 2 - The bouncer is a blonde gal. 3 - I'm a 6 feet tall, 200 pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4 - The woman sitting next to me is blonde and is a professional weightlifter. 5 - The lady to your right is a blonde and is a professional wrestler. Now think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that joke? The blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head, and declares, "Nah, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times

... but of course! Hey did you know that there are 870 beers in 77 countries Welcome to trash.net's Virtual Beer Server http://beer.trash.net/

ok... let's get back with the jokes! Two old black belts continued to compete in Taekwondo tournaments well past their prime. One day, while relaxing after yet another competition, they were chatting and wondering if Taekwondo tournaments were held in heaven. They made a pact that whomever passed away first would come back and let the other know. About a week later, one of them passed away. A few days later, the surviving black belt saw an apparition of his old buddy. "Well!" asked the surviving black belt, "Are there any Taekwondo tournaments in heaven?" "I have some good news and some bad news for you," replied the apparition. "The good news is that, yes, there are Taekwondo tournaments in heaven." "The bad news is that your first match is tomorrow afternoon."

Hey ZR you gave me an idea!!! Well it obviously won't work here but you can try on your own Beer Survivor Team Challenges! 1 Beer Chug Your standard relay. Head to head competition. One beer in a mug each. First player, on the hosts count, picks up beer and chugs, when finished, slamsdown mug, at this time next player goes. Team is finished when final mug hits table. Slower team loses...obviously. 2 Shot Glass Put One team at a time, two people on each side of two facing couches, each pair need about one beer. Time the event. First player pours a shot of beer, shoots it and tosses shot glass across table to next player, where he/she does the same. This goes on until each team finishes the two beers (one per pair on the sofa) Everyone can make judgement calls on spillage. Tack on 2 seconds for a spilt shot, etc. 3 World Cup One team at a time. Fill pitcher with 48oz. of beer, (4 standard beer cans). Timed event, using any tactic, finish the cup as fast as you can. Suggestions: One person chugs as much as they can and passes it, maybe everyone uses a straw. Remember the less people you have the more you drink. 4 Beer Tower Head to head. Stack 4 beers on top of another. At same time pop the top of one, finish it however you want(shotgun, bong, chug, etc.) Put it on table, crack the next one. Repeat. The winner is the team who has a 4 empty beer tower first. 5 Hoops Fill a bucket with 4 beers. Stand 10 feet from it. Throw ping pong balls into it. Most out of 5 per person, 10 per team wins. Losers finish bucket, in under 5 minutes... 6 Find the Beer Have your host hide two cans of beer somewhere where you are partying. Also have him write up two riddles to help find them. Let the final two players loose. Have them seek, destroy and return the empty can to the playing area, crush it on their head and celebrate. First back wins bragging rights !!

I assume you mean "lineage" Pacificshore ? ... and then I would take that to mean ... the history and tradition behind your particular style and how it has evolved to how you are practicing it today? I believe it is every martial artist's responsibility to know all that they can about their specific style and not to stop there .... be knowledgeable about other styles also. Good place to start is .... HERE I myself have learned much about all of your (you other members) styles since I've been on this forum.
