I was wondering if anyone here ever broken any bones or acquired any serious injuries from performing MA? How much force did it actually take? I have been very lucky! I was injured only once during a spar. Me (130 lbs) He (220) He sidekicked me in the ribs. (just bruised fortunately) But wind was knocked out of me...I don't care how loud you kiap, 220 lbs and a size 12 foot totally blows that method. Also found that I was 2 months pregnant when this happened. Everything was fine...he's a normal 7 year old now pursuiing his purple belt in TKD! Deby _________________ 1st Deg. Hi Anthony... You need to find the right combo that works for you but Carbs and Protein is what you need to boost in your diet. Carbs and protein (even a supplement raises insulin and growth-hormone levels, both important for muscle growth.. Your choice of diet would be dependent on your personal objectives. After working out try a protein supplement rather that ingesting a high carb filling meal. Any liquid meal is good...Twinlab Mass Fuel is pretty tasty! Check out some sample diets online that are high carb/high protein. Deby

Yikes!!! Taezee Don't try the BAT DIET ...you have such nice teeth! ...I think just by what you wrote you have to watch what ya eat. I do the exact same thing, (well used to ,,,not anymore!) Would get a 1 pounder bag of M&M's and make the excuse that I'm doing back to back classes that evening. Well, almost barf on the floor at end of class! Now I eat all my meals (even m&m's on occassion) early in day! Have the whole rest of day to burn off as long as you exercise and keep the metab going! Deby

Taezee...I was thinking the just the same thing the other day!! Seems we do need to lighten up in here a bit now and then! Cool idea..! We should keep'em short though! Why do gorillas have big nostrils? Because they have big fingers Deby _________________ 1st Deg. Question: What is the proper way to throw a hook punch? ...in my TKD training we focused more of reverse punches, jabs and blocking techniques...I 'm not sure if palms of fist face floor when executed or whether they face you, thumb facing up? (as thrown in boxing)Or whether both are correct?... Deby

Thats OK Ken True, opinions are opinions...thus we have a forum here to voice them. You'll always find someone who is either in agreement with you or not...such is life. Martial artists are grouped like this... this was something interesting that I read : retro-focused- MA who defines himself primarily on past traditions, one who resists change and finds current MA trends threatening. future-focused-focusing on new ground, new concepts present-focused- doesn't think much of the past or the future Deby _________________ If there is a righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in character, beauty in the character, there will be harmony in thehome. ...maybe going off on a tangent here but, don't you think if you're going to be a citizen in America that you should at least speak English? (the most difficult language to learn) ...maybe Ken feels differently on this too (see other tec.posts) Deby

Ken...it's Deby NOT Lori Hey you're in fact interacting with me correct? We wouldn't be able to if you didn't know how to read, write, type or for that matter switch on your computer. You are taking the interacting thing way too far. Chill hon! Everything has its origins somewhere...you do and I do. Thing is we should appreciate tradition. Get to know Thai...the food is awesome too! You might learn something and hey...you can throw some words out to your students and educate them as well! Peace! Reforming my routine, help me get on the right path!

Lori... the 600 crunches is taking into consideration that I teach 2 classes back to back (which I have been doing due to vacation timing at the school) I do a minimum of 300 crunches per class. Do you have a favorite crunch or push up that you personaly do? I am trying to incorporate some new "strenuous" stretching/conditioning drills for my students. I love to hear them moan when I say " I've got a new one for you guys....." Deby -
Well with all that I can't imagine how you can be a "big guy". Now is that big or BIG? I mean are you overweight or just tall and broad?? Diet has to now come into consideration. Try cutting down on fats. Eat regularly. I do not believe in dieting but rather modifying the WAY that you eat. Eat a humongous EARLY breakfast AFTER you workout...light cardio/weights to speed up metabolism for morning. Eat lunch (light) something to tie yu over until dinner. Drink lots of water all day! At dinner eat early!!! (5:00) if you can or if later don't eat as much! And never eat anything heavy past 8:00! Watch what alcohol you consume...save it for the weekends! Deby

Please post your warm up drills and/or special stretching techniques for us! Deby

Hey Jack, I'm glad you took some of my advice. You sweated like a pig? ewwww!!! But good! Shadowboxing is good cardio but really you must invest in a heavy bag for resistance training. I feel it is a must for any martial artist to work on kicks and punches outside of the dojo/club. Do those hooks to the bag in horsestance (much like a sissy squat) and left right hook to the body...bring them up to the head continuously up and down for as long as you physically can stand it! My shoulders are so awesome and I've worked my biceps and triceps in this way (among doing other heavy bag punching) because I dislike weight training -for me- for my upper body. I would rather perfect my punching abilities for sparring plus reap the benefits of a great bod!
