  1. Welcome to the forums!
  2. You bring up a good point about Bruce lee. Yes the fact that you should have a good body is very essential in MA. It is called the temple , you need to keep your temple as sharp as you can to have a real impact. You speak of training the body as a major part of matial arts. But you have not realsied that there are 2 other aspects the mind and the sprit , they all need to be trained to become a truely great martial artist.
  3. Hard training gives good results.
  4. I think nin-jitsu would be great for you body type. As far as jet-li is concerned he does alot of Wushu which is a good style. But as for his fighting in that movie , you have to remeber its a movie. And the style was a bit mixed , but mostly street fighting.
  5. I think that you should take up TKD agian , because you have experience and you will pick it up stright away. But at the smae time you should do BJJ aswell because a mixure of both is always better than one. BJJ is one of the best grapping arts , and TKD is a good strikin art , so it would be a good mixture.
  6. Sorry i dont know of any JKD schools in that area, but it is a great art so try and find some. As for hapkido , i have done it and i would compare it very closely to KJJ or korean ju-jitsu.
  7. You could add some more free styles , like capodiea , or western boxing. But as far as no kata's thats somthing you have top get over because you need kata's to really absorb the content.
  8. Yes i see no problem in it , Buddhism concentrates on the spritual side of things just as much as MA does , so i think it would be a good mix.
  9. It doesn't matter about your body type becuase you can change that. I think that you should go to each of the school and sit in on a class and watch , if you like what you see and think your up for it , then take the class.
  10. You should search your area more. There might be someone who has experience and is willing to teach you. MA is all about sharing information and styles, that what we are doing right now on the board.
  11. I have a school of my own and the question i get asked is how strick i am. The correct questions that i would ask , is how long the teacher has been doing MA and hwo experienced he is , this will give you a better view on how good the class will be. Also ask questions about the school its self , rules, times, and payment.
  12. Wel im a si-fu now but back in the day i was training with different styles 6-7 days a week. and most of it wasn't paid for. I stress to my stundents that they should come at least twice a week to get any real beneifit from my class. If you carnt aford it then you should try and save more money to go to more classes , it is worth it.
  13. i can give you better advice if i knew what schools were around you. I think that fo your height and size i dont recomend MT just yet you need to build up your speed and flexabilty if you want to do good in MT or MMA.
  14. Wel i think taking more than one class at a time is great!! , it really makes you concentrate on each aspect of the art and you will soon see that you are comparing the arts and finding weakness. At one stage i was doing 4 styles at once. it does work i have 16 styles under my belt which i am ranked high in all , and i am one of the best fighters you will see , so there is no disadvantage to learning more than one style.
  15. The best thing for you is to take it slow and listen to what your body is saying , dont push to hard and you wwill be fine. Also a good diet will help loss that weight.
  16. Any specific ways to develop strength in the fingers? I have to admit im a little skeptical about striking with the finger tips, unless its a flick to the eyes. There are a few ways to make your fingers stronger. one way is to do fingure pushups , and the best way i found is the bucket technique , which you take a bucket and fill it with ice and frozen peas , then strike it with your fingers over and over agian untill your figers are sore.Continue this for a while and you will see a hugh difference.
  17. You dont need to make a new style, just follow the rules of jkd, i know 16 styles well, and i use them in jkd
  18. Yes it does , only if you have not learnt to strenghthen your fingers , after that u will have to problem with hiting wif fingers
  19. Use the steel one for training , this will give your body a workout while you train. Also the weight give the sword much more power.
  20. The question needs more information , e.g. the environment , distance between oppoents, and having weapons out.
  21. Its a great style to learn. It has moderate phyiscal intensity. The style is very useful in the street agianst 1 oppoent. As far as learning it , that depends on how well you pick up things and if you are a quick learner.
  22. There is only a few Martial arts sites that will give you good information about there school. This one is very plain , you should go into the school and find out for your self. As for your knee problem, when i started i had bad knee's aswell but it soon goes away as your knee's become stronger, but they might not either it is just one of thoses things that you need to find out for your self.
  23. BJJ would not be usefull in that situation at all. It is great agianst 1 oppoent but its down fall is as soon as an other figure is in the way. My recomendations are to reasearch styles that can deal with many oppoents and mix this into your BJJ.
  24. First thing , it is never too late i know people who are 60,70 and are still doing martial arts or have only started in the last year. The fat issue is easy just lose it , get some will power and lose it , if you carnt then u wont be able to comit your self to the arts.
