Congrats hapkido princess! -
Good attitude and you probably all ready then have there respect and just do not know it I know that I feel this way sometimes to from my sensei's and my peers being in a all mans class and being the only woman(there is a another woman but hardly ever there) feel like he does not want me there sometimes. But I know he does but still the testosterone runs pretty high alot in class.

Self-Defense against Rape

I'm quoting this because I feel the same way. I would be fighting for my life and if means he dies well so be it. that is why I train so hard to be able to if need be to safe myself in any situation. -
I kind of do the same thing if I see my sensei show some one a lot of respect I follow suit, I kind of been doing tournaments for 3 years and have learned what to look for in people to know who to give respect and who not. Erin with the regard of your peers hang in there all kyu ranks go through this until I do not know how to say this with out being miss understood but hear it goes until you earn it. I know you have stated that you have a disability they know this. The thing is they have probably seen so many people not hack it and they may think you are one of them so you got to prove them wrong. Erin do not take this the wrong way I am just going by what you wrote and I am not in your dojo to see it differently.

I agree with what was said above also maybe order a reference book on your style or similar. That can be very helpful with terminology and for example your open hand techniques.

From experience this has happen to me a few times in grappling and sparring (doing open hand techniques) you learn to deal and the magic of taping your fingers or using wraps. I sprang my big toe a couple months ago to this day I can not tell you how I did it and every once in while it will give me trouble I just tape it and hit the floor.

Tournament Politics ?
white owl replied to Tiger1962's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I was at a tournament over the weekend and I definitely agree with you on this. As for your sensei judging in your ring well my sensei has had to do that and he was very fair if not harder on his students. -
Thanks for your reply's. I have tryed powder but it made the bo even more slippery. I think it has something to do with the finish that is on my bo. Maybe.

Bas Rutten Street Defense
white owl replied to Wa-No-Michi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Loved it. found it very entertaining and could be very useful. I actually do 4:39 in my self defense routine but I do not do all the punching I throw one good palm to the face sweep the leg and my favorite an very effective punch to the groin and do I get a lot of gasps exespecially when my husband has his cup on and I give a little knock. -
I was at a recent tournament and had a terrible time with my hands sweating. I tried to wipe them on my gi before stepping on the floor to do my kata but before I even got done with my approach I need to wipe them again but was afraid I would get points off even though I did not do the bow to start my kata yet. Yes, when I get nerves my hands do seat but, I never had problems in the past holding on to the bo. I was wondering if some of you have any ideas on controlling the slippery hands. I got told to ruff it up with some sand paper but my bo is white washed and I really do not want to do that to it.

I have been insisting and helping instruct since orange belt and now I currently hold the rank of a brown belt and have taught my own classes, it is a requirement for dan testing to be able to lead and instruct a class and I feel there is nothing wrong with it. It helps you grow as a martial arts.

I myself do not wear my gi to the dojo or tournaments either. To much of risk on getting something on it but there is people who do and I think there is nothing wrong with wear your gi bottom in but I think the gi top should be put on after you arrive at the dojo or tournament, less chance of looking sloppy then.
