First Ju Jitsu Grading
LeaF replied to moobrack's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
The best advice I can give you is to relax and clear your mind. You would not be in the grading if you did not meet the standards for that belt level, just do what you know how to do and don't worry it is only your first grading no pressure -
Getting back into the Martial Arts
LeaF replied to KickChick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have really never stop training for an extensive amount of time (except when I went on vactaions and hoes were never more then a month at a time) Good luck KickChick on getting your daughter back into, the first few classes will be the hardest -
Thanks for the story G95 and for the info KickCHick, I am rather curious though. I was under the impression that one was unable to wwalk when the rupture their AH. How would someone perform exercises if they cannot walk. Have I just been misinformed and they can walk? I can only imagine how painful it could be...once I had to "spar" with a bunch of kids (it was more like me messing up their hair while they tried to hit me) anyways they gennerally could kick high enough and my AH got struck many times, no that was painful and these are just 8 year olds!! so I would imagine that if you ruptured it the pain would be extremely immense and it would be difficult to walk nevermind do exercises...perhaps you could further educate me on this topic

What a sad world we live in

Most definitly...WE also are taught that our weapons are no more than an extension of our bodies. I find that by training in kobudo I have greatly increased my control among other things. I find this helps me drastically with my karate technique and I use this control everyday. So aside from the obvious self-defense benifits there are also many "hidden" ones P.S. why is the weapons forum in the general martial arts section? shouldn't it have remained with the other arts since the weaponed arts are martial arts on their own? Or is this just part of the temporary facelift the site is getting?

oh ok yea I wasn't sure what you meant...glad to see we are on the same page, although everyone is intitled to their own opinion

Wing Chun punching in TKD
LeaF replied to HarvesterofSorrow's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I don't study either but thought I would share He punch horizontally in Goju ryu karate-do. With our biggest knuckles slightly in front making the impact -
Does your "focus point" change when....
LeaF replied to koreantiger81's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I always look at the eyes no matter how tall or short (it is actually easier I find when they are shorter to look at the eyes). I focus and try not to let my eyes to wander... -

Well I have gotten bruises and bumps and have limped to school on a couple ocassions but nothing too serious.... The worse thing I ever did to someone was break his hand in karate class (but it was his fault he blocked my kick wiht his hand open and I caught his fingers). It is true that all my bad injuries have occur outside the dojo, which include a broken growth plate in my ancle, 4 broken fingers (on the same hand at the same time) and a couple of broken toes

What do you mean we ain't helping anymore.... Who sent their firetrucks right away at sep. 11, we were there. We helped in the war to the best of our pathetic military's capablities. But why should we help you when your jack$&% for a president takes every moment to undermined us and I personally am insulted by it. Two incidents that come to mind right away. Is when he was first elected...the president's first foreign visit is suppose to be to their greatest friend/ally...every other pres went to Canada but not bush ...he goes to Mexico....another insulting moment when the pres had his big speech after spet.11 he mentioned thanks all sorts of countries all over the globe but doesn't mention Canada.... Then later he gives some half ass excuse saying that we are just like another one of the states so he didn't thik it was nessasary to metnion us...anyways we do help but it is obviously underappreicated, but what else is new... I am not sure if this was meant to mean that he agrees Canada is not helpful or he agrees that we are helpful so I will not comment on it for the moment...

Ninjutsu and Krav Maga
LeaF replied to lbouchet's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Krav maga was developed for the war like situations in the middle east so it is possible that it contains some elements from nunjitsu among other MA because it is new just like Tobias said perhaps you will find this helpful This comes from http://home1.swipnet.se/budo/kravmaga.htm -
Why did you join the marital arts? I have no shame in admitting that my sole reason for beginning the martial arts was the ninja turtles. I used to watch them on tv all the time, saw their movies, had their action figures I loved the ninja turtles. So it seemed like perfect common sense to me (that 8 year old kid) to want to fight just like them. Obviously over the years my priorites have changed and that is no longer the reason I train but that is what got me started.

Tile Flooring...ouch don't the tiles break or crack when doing hard take downs and stuff like that. I could see that being much more painful even when doing rolls, Thank goodness we have carpet

Looks great Patrick! I just had one question about the Users Online Today thingy at the bottem of the main index. I noticed a couple days ago the numbers were jumping around like for instance it said there was 110 who visited the site, but then a couple hours later it said there were only 52 who visited the site that day, it may have already been fixed, just thought I would bring it to your attention. Other than that little thing the site looks great
