I find after every sparing or drill my forearms ache. They are always bumped and bruised up. I found they have gotten a little by doing drills which envolve strikeing them against a hard object or someone elses arm. Does anyone know of any other less painful exercises, drills etc. that will help strenghten forearms. Thanks alot

It looks great Patrick! I know it is still a work in progress, the only think I would change (and it isn't that big a deal) Is make the forum a little smaller....I thought the previous forum was a great size this may just take some getting used too. But great job I look forward to the things to come.

Cool well good luck to you. You will very quickly recognize that sanchin definatly represents to Go(hard) portion of goju perhaps you will get the opertunity to study it's ju counterpart tensho aswelll. And thanks for the congrats on the yellow belt.

Has anyone tried this? I heard it has to do with eating alot of vegies and is suppose to give you alot more energy...if anyones tried it tell me what you think and a link or further information would be great!!
-
umm well if you want some books they are fairly easy to find for goju katas (which i assume you study because you ask about sanchin) I have a good book altough it is quite old and may be difficult to find or mabe not. it is called don warners traditional goju ryu karate...it has pics and explainations...altough the breathing may be hard to pick up on without instruction....The best thing to do would be to join a dojo the better fits you timetable or make your timetable fit your dojo....nothing is better and easyer then being instructed by someone train but cheack your local book store and see what you can find good luck!!

It seems in my previous post that I may have misunderstood you aswell...I got the understanding that by help you meant you wanted it him spar with you therefore "helping" you first hand I donot see anything rude or wrong with simple asking for advice.

What are your Sparring classes like?
LeaF replied to koreantiger81's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Well perhaps insted of restrciting what they can use to attack try restricting the target area. suchas shoulder sparing or have the students only attack one of the chrests (you cannot cover the chrest with you hand) This will help them attack those hard to reach areas and will teach them how fakes and mobility can help you reach your target while being consious that your oppentant is attempting to do the same thing to you. hope these suggestions help. -

-
Aqua and orange sounds amazing!! but...um patrick posted this 11:45 last night...I guess he meant tonight the changes were goning to happen I look foward to it !!!
-
Sorry never heard of him...what region do you train in...what rank is he.....
-
Well I don't see the problem with asking for some help although it depends on the situation. I believe it is fine if the class is currently sparing (not doing katas or something else) and if the higher rank is there to asist (not on his way out or is just supervising) and lastly if there is an odd number of students(I don't think it is fair that another student should have to sit out because you would rather spar with the senior then him) If all of these conditions are met I would not be offended if you asked for help. just my opinion...

Well the dojo I attend requires us to sign contracts. Now you have the choice of like a 3 month contract or 1 year. New students also have the option of trying a class or two or watch some classes before they make a commitment. I believe contracts are a good idea to have. It will teach the student to be more commited and it helps pretect everyone, and my dojo is by no means a "mcdojo" _________________ Goju ryu karate-do Okinawan Kobudo Given enough time, any man may master the physical. which martial art teaches the nunchaku?
LeaF replied to koreantiger81's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
You can learn the nunchucku in some kobudo class. Where I live there are laws restricting the pratice of nunchuckas so that may be something to concider aswell. -
try one of the following search engines specfically budo seek, dojos many dojos use them...and if that fails try the yellow pages or your local commerical phone book, maybe their new and don't have a web site yet? anyways the web browsers are http://www.budoseek.net/ and http://www.samuraisearch.com/ good luck!!

perhaps my reply is a little late but anyways I have 2 katas with the bo that I enjoy very much they are Arikaki no kon and Chatan yara no kon sorry for the late reply but late is better than never ...right?

Big Decision
LeaF replied to BoB bArr's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
hmmm well it sounds like you got alot on your plate...I would personally would find it rather overwhelming to begin to brand new styles at the same time....and if you look down the road as you progress through the ranks you will be expected to contribute and become more invovled in the dojo...you may run out of time and may have to sacrifice something....umm but if you are really keen on it I suppose it can be done. I don't really know of a style that is quick. In my expirence with Karate it is not something that can be learned in a year or two it requires a longer commitment. Take a look at the web site I will list below perhaps it will be of some help to you. The only thing I can think of in krav magna which was develeped by the isreali military but I am not too familar with that system....oh well check out the site good luck!! http://home1.swipnet.se/budo/
