I've never seen this one before. I think I'll check it out.

Yes it's very good

That was very interesting

I can't really pick a favorite weapon. I am most partial to katanas, rapiers, tonfas, nunchucks and staffs. But even that is a quite wide spectrum. I'm not sure I can even explain why I feel that way about them.

I'd still say go for it. You'd be surprised how much of grandpa's wisdom still holds true to these days.

What is THE WORST Martial Arts Related Injury You Ever Had?
The BB of C replied to Tiger1962's topic in Health and Fitness
Just got my worst martial art injury today. A Capoeira fighter kicked me in the face and chipped out one of my teeth. -
My schools have always been boards but I've been trying to do bricks.

Karate vs. Judo
The BB of C replied to akedm's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Oh that was cheap! -
I've been there before. I went to being one of the best in my Kuk Sool Won school among instructors and students alike (I was still lower rank) to being the absolute worst in the Isshin-Ryu karate school...and it still is to this day (one year later). At least now I've gotten used to it.

One Inch Punch, and..
The BB of C replied to Traymond's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I think chi is a natural force that exists. I think the one inch techniques are mainly for demonstration showing an ability to generate power even from very close and awkward positions. I feel that Tai Chi makes best use of one inch concepts. -
Awesome

I think if you let anger engulf you, you will lose total track of what you're doing and end up becoming self-destructive. However - if you experience no emotion, you have nothing but physical to draw from. A good amount of my motivation, drive and power comes from me channeling my anger and what I am angry at.

Do you have a different punching and kicking stance?
The BB of C replied to RW's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
As far as I can tell, they're about the same. I will either be in a tall side stance when I'm kicking and punching or I will be in a long front stance when I'm punching or kicking. -
I see where you're coming from and I've seen it done before. As a personal matter I'm likely to put lesser experienced students with slightly more experienced students based on overall skill of the two people. I also don't really see myself as an exception seeing as there's plenty more people just like me.

Oh I see. I misread then. That's on me.

Why do you include "size or rank"? Your martial arts background is listed as Cannon Style, Kuk Sool Won, Isshin-ryu, Capoeira, and Tae Kwon Do, and I doubt you're a smaller person. If you're against an equally or nearly-equally matched opponent, I understand, but what if you outweigh someone by thirty to fifty pounds, or is noticeably below you in belt rank, and likely far behind your MA experience? Currently I'm 5'10, 195 pounds and 20% body fat and smaller than a good deal of my peers. I've been beaten and have beaten people of all shapes and sizes as well as both male and female. As for my styles, my styles are a perfect example of the rank issue. I walked into my Kuk Sool Won class with a good amount of independent training from my boxer/wrestler older brother, a 6'3 WWF wrestling fan who loved to spar for a best friend, another friend with a second degree black belt in Aikido, and whatever I could pick up on my own. I had been in a good amount of fights prior and had a relatively good instinct and timing though I was slugglish in speed and endurance. I took right to the techniques they taught me in Kuk Sool Won and became one of the best in sparring in that school under only a 4th degree black belt and golden glove boxer and the 5th degree black belt class owner. When I went to Isshin-ryu, everything was very different and the skill level was way past the instructors of Kuk Sool Won. But at sparring I'd still put up a good fight and got a lot of hits on some of the instructors because none of them (the first few weeks) were expecting my legs to come up that high. I take Capoeira at a club at the community college I attend and I take Tae Kwon Do for physical education credits. I've just recently started Brazillian Jiu Jutsu. You can count them if you want. Those three styles are aside the point. The point is that I was underestimated at Kuk Sool Won because all they saw was a white belt and didn't know that I did a lot of independent training prior. Initially they underestimated me at Isshin-ryu for a similar reason. So that even though someone may have a white belt and be a beginner they may have had some kind of previous experience. My Issin-ryu instructor once told me a story about an assistant instructor he had (brown belt) and a white belt came in and during sparring beat the brown belt by a lot. Turns out the new white belt was the kind of guy who had been in a lot of bar brawls before and had a lot of experience under his belt even though it was the first time he had actually taken a martial art. There's also the case of my little brother, who has been a natural at boxing and wrestling even before he started taking martial arts with me. He's given me trouble at sparring all my life even when I was just starting Kuk Sool Won and was significantly smaller and had no rank. Now that he's hit puberty he's about my size and with all his acquired experience through martial arts has become even harder to beat. That's why I included size and rank.

Video Games You'd Like to See Made Into a Movie
The BB of C replied to Patrick's topic in General Chat
They pretty much got all the games I would want covered. That aside - pardon my pessimism for the rest of this post. "Tekken" is in progress. I hope that comes out good. I want to see "Street Fighter" done right! DARN IT!!! I grew up on that game and they destroy it every time they make a movie. They're coming out with another one. It's based on Chun-Li which is cool but from what I seen from the previews they only got her and Balrog right...but I still have to see it. It is required If it stinks I'm remaking it when I get into directing. In fact the other night I was joking about it with some friends. I turned on the "movie trailer announcer guy" kind of voice and said, "The new Street Fighter Movie done right by The BB of C! Starring The BB of C as Ryu, Ken, Dan, Balrog, Chun-Li, Dalshim and Blanka...because nobody else could do it right." We all got a laugh out of my joke. I want to see "Dragonball" done right too. They're messing that up as I write this. -
I already tried something like that when my brother poured pepsi and mountain dew into the same cup. If it's anything like that - it's good but nothing special.

I still don't trust the internet for much.

JusticeZero is now my new best friend

Martial arts politics disgust me. I would suggest going to the training camp just by yourself. Keep poking around and try to get to the bottom of it. Don't reveal your rank unless you have to.

Taekwondo addiction
The BB of C replied to foofies's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I am guilty of the following: • People find it difficult to carry on a conversation with you since you keep shifting between stances and practicing kicks while talking to them. • When tripping over your shoelaces you bounce up into fighting stance with a Kiup. • You answer your boss Ussss • You insist on showing your work colleagues your interesting set of bruises on your forearms and shins ever week. • You enjoy limping into work and explaining what injury you got this week. • You shut the refrigerator door with a side thrust kick. • You open doors with front kicks. • Work chairs with high back are really good for practicing turning kicks. • Switching a light on or off requires a knife hand strike. • You shop for clothes based on whether you can kick in them. • In a boring meeting you start practicing staff techniques with a pencil. • You view new students as fresh meat. • You look forward to working another technique line. • You eagerly volunteer to be the instructor’s demonstration assistant. • You believe that one and half hours is far too short for a training session • You say to the shop assistant in the men's store, "Nice pants, but I don't think I can kick in them." • You have reached the phase of seeing everybody walking around with blinking little red cross-hairs on all their vital spots • The only way to operate a lift is to backfist the correct floor button on the inside of the elevator, based on your memory of the button's location, before you get in far enough to see it. I win
