At the risk of sounding like a movie, go right into that section of town and challenge the student or instructor from that school (if they're still there) that harrassed you the most to a grudgematch. That's what I would have done. They say the best ways to conquer a fear is to face it. Especially if you really do have nightmares about it.

Defense against the face punch
The BB of C replied to GhostFighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I like to side step an parry the jab. As an example, I was recently boxing with one of my family members during our New Years' party. I can't box at all. I never have been able. I've never been able to comprehend the footwork in boxing and a boxing style jab means nothing to me The only jab I can do is a Muay Thai style cross-jab. But that might be aside from the point. Anyway, because I suck so bad at actual boxing (or generally fighting with closed hands), I turn to karate blocks and punches with boxing gloves on. Because I know the boxer is going to lead with his left jab, as soon as I see him start to move, I step to my right and do a typical Okinawain side block moving with the jab's energy. It hasn't failed me against a boxer since I figured out how to use it against a boxer. They stumble foreword, I'm behind them and then the counter possibilities are endless. New Year's Eve, between my ability to duck and parry, my cousin hit me all of once and it was by accident when he tried to throw his gloves off in frustration and clocked me in the head -
Should young black belts instruct the adult class
The BB of C replied to granitemiller's topic in Karate
Personally I don't think anyone under 18 should teach a class. Rank usually just means that the person knows more about the style than the lower ranks. A younger black belt might not be mature enough to know how to teach a technique properly (especially if they had an instructor that didn't teach them properly - hence the thousands upon thousands of belt factory schools). If I was running a school, any instructor that's under 18 would be teaching because they're exceptionally powerful and show exceptional understanding of what they're teaching. And all my assistant instructors would take a test to see if they're good teachers. It would just be me watching them teach without saying anything unless they say something wrong. -
List of Martial Arts and Fighting Factors
The BB of C replied to The BB of C's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That's an interesting suggestion. But something just occoured to me. First, you'll need to know that the idea of this thesis is to break down all factors to their lowest and most basic level and explain each one's importance, why it shouldn't be left out, and how it can tie into everything else to create power. Things like "thoughtlessness", "strategies" and "tactics" seem to already encompass things like analysis, application, concentration, insight, memorization and unpredictability. What I just thought was that if I use one word for all of those words, I risk not breaking them down to their lowest and most basic level and I also forsee a risk of making one seem more important than the other. That's just what came to my head now. Although I suppose I could put subcategories like I did with arms and legs. I should probably just do more research on the mental rhelm. I should review the books I have and look at the one that KarateEd mentioned. -

Interesting. I'll check it out if I can remember it. Any other suggestions? -
List of Martial Arts and Fighting Factors
The BB of C replied to The BB of C's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Interesting observation. But perhaps that could be classified with instinct. What do you think? -
Hello everyone. Sometime in the future I plan on writing a master thesis about how to train in all factors of martial arts that play a part in fighting and every day activities. I don't think I got everything though. I'd like you all to take a look at this list (that took me two weeks to compile) and see if I'm missing anything. (Note: If you're not 100% certain you know what something in this list is, be sure to ask. It's happened more than once that I've had a very different vocabulary from most other martial artists. I like avoiding misunderstandings.) (Note for future reference: I often use the word 'power' when talking about martial arts. When I say 'power', I'm referring to how well all these factors are trained and balanced within a person. "Power" to me means a compilation of all fighting, fitness and martial arts factors in the physical, mental and spiritual rhelms.) Physical: Arm and hand techniques -shoulder, elbow, forearm, palm, fist, knuckles, chop, foreknuckles, fingers Balance Blocking Bone conditioning Breathing Consistency Coordination Core Defense Diet Endurance Flexibility Forms Ground fighting Healing Joint conditioning Joint locks Leg and foot techniques -knee, shin, top of the foot, blade of the foot, ball of the foot, heel Offense Precision Pressure points Speed Strength -muscle and tendon Throws Weapons Mental: Analysis Application Concentration Decision making Improvisation Insight Instinct Logic Mechanical thought Memorization Mind strength Motivation Psychological understanding Reflexes -regular, idle Unpredictability Visualization Yin/yang of mechanical thought and instinct Spiritual: Choices Determination Discipline Emotion -fear, courage, motivation Faith Focus Internal energy Meditation Morals Patience Philosophy Self control Three-way-balance Will power Willingness -to learn, to fight, to harm, to preserve

I got a book showing Bruce Lee's techniques and I got a camera which will help me choreograph fight scenes for my movies.

Justin Eilers Murdered
The BB of C replied to pittbullJudoka's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
The second one in a month. What the heck is going on here? -
Oh believe me there's 10x more important things going on than what does make the headline news What I was always wondering is why they don't say anything about possible motivations or suspects. That article was just kind of "He died, it sucks, the end." Maybe I'm just more of an in-depth kind of guy.

To a degree, yes. We also have to trust ourselves to be strong enough, insightful enough, and smart enough to not cross the boundaries and start practicing two religions at once. Take extra senses for example. Things like channelling chi and etc. I don't know if anyone reading this post believes in it or not but I have seen enough evidence to support it. Anyway - there are two ways of going about aquiring such abilities. The natural way, though focus and meditation and understanding that it's channelling a natural energy force inside you. Or there's the other ways of going about it like worshiping powers like that or going about it through witchcraft and rituals. I've seen both carried out successfully. The difference is that one is physical ability and the other is exactly what normal Christians should know not to get into and the extremist Christians fear so much that they completely seclude themselves from all physical activity (and from what I've seen - will then adopt complecency and unintentionally live out the phrase 'evil thrives when good men do nothing').
-
True. Big rift. I, personally couldn't put a finger on what qualifies an instructor. Some given qualities are tough love, strictness and ultra discipline. As well as being able to back up his/her own theories proof and a control. Other than that I got nothing more than the fact that I know a good teacher when I see one.

Class, this demonstrates the purpose of rehearsal
-
I've done that before. Off the top of my head I can't remember any specifics. But I can tell you that to this day, my older sister (26-years-old) swears on her life that my mother promised her (when she was five) that when she was ten-years-old they would get her a pony (typical isn't it?).
-
Very interesting. I don't remember if this guy was any good or not. But he turned up positive drug test results. I wonder if the shooting was related to that.
-
Yeah. But those extremist Christians really disgust me and give the rest of us a bad name. As I get older I find more and more that martial arts are needed to give focus and power to a Christian as Christians are needing to defend themselves more and more.

What is your definition of an "MA technique?"
The BB of C replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I always defined a technique in martial arts as an offensive or defensive maneuver used to counteract an attack and cause damage to an opponent. -
Overall power. Nothing has more importance over the other.
-
It worked. We're all set.
-
You seemed to suggest erasing it so I figured I'd go in that direction.
-
Thanks again for the info. I just wanted to make sure so I know what to expect. I have to format it this weekend.
-
Will erasing the hard drive wipe out all the other stuff on it like "Finder", "I-Cal", "I-Tunes" and things like that?
-
I prefer parrying because it leaves most room for a counter attack and has virtually no recoil. I can parry outside to set up a trap or I can parry inside to move in with a counter attack and even set up some combinations.
-
I'd say it's probably more of a way of training than anything else. Where you got the crap beaten out of you every day by your instructors and peers, where you beat the crap out of yourself every day and all day, katas all day every day, conditioning all day every day. The whole deal.
