I think that this topic was discussed 100s of times in other threads , but ps1 was right : The problem is your assuming a Jiujitsu practitioner would do that. Any grappler can throw and smash against concrete. Any grappler cand take down the enemy , pound and get up quickly ( or just stay on his feet ) You dont need to be in the floor. I remember this question being asked to the great Roiler ( or one of his multiple RRRelatives) once in an interview and he said that Jujiutsu is a natural and logical approach to the figtht ,so they NEVER teach you to go to the ground in ALL the cases... And bjj DO have strikes , but like in judo.... they are not the centre of the art...and not the bestest strikes in the MA world. BUt a ´´bjj only ´´ guy with common sense can strike in a decent way...more if the attackers are punks.

I am ignorant about this art... I just know it shares some ooooold links with jujutsu and ninjistu. But my bigger question is : why the sumo guys are portrayed as fat -fatter than the average fat -men ? Why they dont reach that heavy weight with muscle ( like big boxers , MMA guys , wrestlers , etc?

Congrats purple man ! -
Well, I think if you wanna sleep in your bed that night ( and not RIP in a bag) , you may just open your hand wheen needed for a certain technique , and let the walmart 3 x 1 $ cheap lighter go to the ground.

handling mad relatives
Rainbow_Warrior replied to Rainbow_Warrior's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well...this is not the first time it happens.... We are like brothers and grew up in being neighbors .... Things like this have happened to me , with some friends too. All of them are not M. artists either contact sport guys.... People who is not used to sparr maybe do not know the difference between playing/sparring and real violence...and tend to get mad easily when feel that they are ´´losing ´´. Any guy with a MA background and common sense...would be at ease. I remember once , playing with one friend ... I grabbed him with a kimura , but using little power...he got angry and punched me in the face.... It didnt hurt cuz he can not punch that hard....but we were grappling , not in NHB fight.... He did not understand the difference... I could have his arm broken anyway.... Indeed.... He should learn to fight , and understand what sparring is... -
Well...today I had a family BBQ... and my cousin who is around my age ( he is 25 im 22 ) got mad... We were wrestling in a kiddy, friendly way on the grass in the yard after the meal ( he has 0 technique)...and I took him down with a scissor take down....He said....´´I could smash your head if you try to do that again ´´... then.... I took him down again with a double leg.......and he was very angry... I was playing...he was not. I had to to mount him.. and he tried to hit me again ( of course he couldnt)... He was screaming like a wild ape . I stayed in the mount position...and said ´´well...hit me if you want ´´...he got worst... He started shouting ´´ who do you think you are , god ??? ´´ It was sad....I released him when other members of the family including my dad asked me to stop.... I was laughing... I did not hurt him of course , and the idea ( of course ) never came to mi mind.... Was I wrong ? .... I know....those ´´friendly fights ´´ are not good...

I may sound stupid , but Did you try on ebay ?

Sure.....In both olympic liftings , the rotation of the bar is needed to get an eficient use of the strenght and the logenvity of your wrist . Try to clean-jerk any weight you can handle well with a male standard olympic bar , and try the same with a cheap non rotative bar... your wrist may not feel very confortable .... In the competitions the rotative bar is not just about confort..it is a rule. Another problem of the thin bars..is that some people might think they lift more than they can.. because the bar weights around the half....
-
Olympic pros 1) The bar is thick. It improves your grip power 2) The bar can do a rotation move ,a must for weightlifting. 3) It looks better . 4) It last longer...as bushido said.

cool video ! I have seen it before. Pedro was good at that time , now is great ! I think that 99 % of the grapplers with normal weight /stenght ( or with some gym but not like that monster) cant sub. that big monster.... Is very hard to submit a guy that strong without an oustanding technique. Pedro reminds me in some way royce vs kimo in the old ufc. That mr Utah could maul many of us.... Hail Pedro !

Gogo - Plata!

When you spar with new guys , you realize about your progress . Because the older guys or those who started with you did progress too.And you may think you are not doing well...The fact is that maybe you and your old parts are doing well and you cant submit each other with ease. -
I have readen and heard that many judo instructors dont let bjj guys enter the dojo if they have tight . colorful , or patched gis... I also know that some judo fundamentalists say that bjj gi should not be called gi ( they say that its a bjj uniform not a gi , because gi is for japanese tradition stuff)..... People is mad

I chocked a new dude with a gogoplata the other day ( from the full mount , not from the guard).... I can not do that with the average training mates yet , but I give them some pain with the technique. -
ZACH , look in submissions 101 . They have tons of variations. You also check this one , from half guard http://www.grapplearts.com/Kimura-vs-Half-Guard.htm. You can do kimura from halfguard, guard , side mount -top and bottom - and north south . The lock is almost the same with little changes. THe kimura is like an inverted americana (ude-garami).Contrary to the americana, the opponent's wrist is grabbed with the hand on the same side, and the opposite arm is put on the back side the opponent's arm
