Why I like JKD
Rainbow_Warrior replied to Malldetective's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Im not turning this into a MMA thread , read ALL the argument please. I dont know what you mean. ´´ Testosterone is everywhere ´´. Martial arts where made for men , by men . We are men , we fight. Martial arts are about fighting -in a ring....on the streets , in the woods , in the jungle- . Bushidoman was right... If you want a zen course , you might join a zen buddhist temple. I have been in some Kung fu and Wing tsung TMA and people with higher ranks sometimes barely spoke to lower ranks ( In the break of 15 min we had , they made a circle and rarely spoke to the newbies.). And I was not always a noob there , but I felt really bad sometimes. People with a darker piece of clothe in their hips sometimes could have a VERY ARROGANT attitude. They barely sparr , and when they did the stronger punch wouldnt make a baby cry. I dont say that is the reality of all TMAs , Im talking from my side of the coin. When I started boxing ...the first day I had to jump in the ring I was punched like a bag. Yep , that guy gave me a lesson , but we became really good friends because I acted humble and wanted to learn from who was better -something that was hard to me at that time-. I did learn that your skill must to be proved , not worn . Is awesome to have the highest military condecoration , but only if you deserve it. A viet nam veteran , who fought 500 battles..... will be the same great guy with or without the medal. When I joined the MMA club...Everyone was very friendly with me.... they advised me about tapping , and I rolled the very first day. MMA/BOXERS/´´CONTACT SPORTS ´´ guys , in general they will show you that they are better than you -yep , is the animal thing we all have -, but the KNOWLEDGE will be always available for you . If you ask how to do an armbar to the gym ´´ champ´´ , he probably will show you. He will not tell you that ´´you are not in the advanced path ´´ . You will not be segregated if you show guts and will. I think bruce would think in that way , MA should be mixed , you should be allowed to take the piece of the puzzle you want to and make your own..... You should not be controled or limited in your intruction.....of course we need some program or guide but Bruce did not like a tight gi , he wanted to be free. I have my ´´ internal ´´ side , but it is not in my fighting training. I am a devout christian and I think all the time in the meaning of my existence. But when I fight , Im fighthing. I am triying to win . I may shake your hand after....but not during the fight. And the Comradeship you will find in MMA, has no price. -
Yes ps1 , we are primary grapplers ( that is the school focus). Most of our fighters win their MMA with subs , but we have some Muay thai instructors in the pro figthing team - Im not in that team of course. because I would die in my first fight -who study grappling here and fight MMA - they tend to sprawl and brawl - I m not a super grappler nor a super striker. But I had more standing experience ( 5 years in a BAD light contact Kung fu school , 2 years in boxing and some time in KB , but just 1 year in submision wrestling and less than a jr year in HS wrestling). My goal is to be well rounded....I try to sprawl and brawl against grapplers , and to take strikers to the ground..The main problem is that those ´´ strikers ´´ are sometimes experienced purple belts in luta ( equal level with a purple in bjj ) so.... the strikers also kick my butt in the ground.

Tnx for the tip..I knew about the guillotine crank , but never implemented it.... Sounds good I dont know why...sometimes I know techniques,,and can only use them looong time after.. I must to be more conscius about them.... -
Suplex!!!
Rainbow_Warrior replied to NightOwl's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I Love suplex...But I find them VERY difficult -for me - to apply them in MMA and in plain grappling.... I connected a frontal suplex once ...but with a very light dude.... -

Tnx pibull. 1) You are right ,My hands were too low.. I know it . I know I must to keep them high , but I tend to do that when Im tired , and I was focused to keep him out of range ( I wasnt sure to go to the ground . I won this match , but beleive me , he is far more technical than me ). 2)Thanks . I will improve my side control 3) about the guillotine , I didnt want to pull guard...I have tried 1000 times to guillotine this guy and he can tolerate it for a looong time.... I like to get different opinions of people who dont know me and are not biased. -
Some dude told me that we use a different strenght in arm wrestlings , it is not the symmetrical strenght of the barbells... Also he told me that speed and muscular reaction is very important
-
Well , I was told by advanced guy that I tend to use my strenght too much sometimes instead a good technique , but they also told me that I did improve but I need to improve much more on that. I should do more plyometrics...I do some in the training , but it is not inaff maybe... Im far away from being explosive ... That is very obvius in my takedowns,. I made another thread with a video of the last fight... check it if you can

Well, I took my cam to the gym... Here we Go . We fought 2 rounds . In the first round the guy dominates more , but he doesnt tap me. This is the 2nd round . I make it with a rear naked chocke at 5:30. Do I suck too much ?.... Comments , ideas, advice, insults...all is welcome I am the guy in the White Tank Top. http://www.jumpcut.com/view?id=5EBD27D6DD7011DCA240000423CF037A

Today I lost an arm wrestling match in a bar against a friend , who also lift weights . I easily outlift him in every exercise , and Im 20 lbs heavier. buttttt HE WON ! How does it work ?
-
1)The weird thing is that...I can jump rope or run for long time . But I get more tired when fighting hard. I need to be more ´´explosive ´´ 2) yes...random average day of training is something like this a) We run around the gym for 15 mins , with sorpresive push ups , situps , leaps..etc ( it can be more ) b) We do thai pad work 25 mins ( some days it will be more and the grappling technique less) c) we do grappling technique , 40 mins ( more or less ) c) sparring 30 , 40 mins ( grappling 60 % , 25 % mma , %15 striking alone . May vary , but grappling is the strong point of the school) Sparring is the last thing ! So... Nobody is in his 100 %. It is done to get more air and to get used to fight tired......
-
Tnx cross..but this second guy is big a 30 yo guy but many grappling and body building years of training..... He destroyed me like a rag doll in the mma sparring match... Plus..I just came from 2 months of traveling and hollydays ( just training weights at hotels ,etc)... Its very ugly when you lose like that... he gave me tons of knees from side control..then mounted me and choked me after some mins.... I am strong..but I turn weak after several mins of sparring....I need to gain air ! I WANNA WIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I have a friend who trains with me grappling and mma.... He is around my weight ( +195 lbs ) and he is a skilled grappler. When we roll , he generally gets a dominant position but has problems to submit me -he wins by submision 1/5 fights aprox ) , maybe because I have very flexible joints and I do weights almost every day ( and sometimes I can do a sweep or reversal and get a mount or side control , but it does not last much time . He re gains control). When we sparr MMA , the fight is more head to head. We do full contact when standing ,full submisions , and mid. power punches to the head in the ground. The last fight...I rushed him with jabs and low kicks then I got a double leg ( I never can do that in a grappling match against this guy)...I got a mount and when I was punching his face , I could get him in a Kimura..and he barely escaped.... I have been in bad situations during the fight..but it ended in a draw... We fought 3 rounds of 10/12 min aprox.... I asked to finish it because I had no more air ( this dude is charged with duracell). I discovered that I am much better with ground and pound and with sprawl and bowl than with subs...

SUMO
Rainbow_Warrior replied to Rainbow_Warrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Anyway...it could be tradition but it still unhealty... I have readen several articles about the cholesterol of those guys , + blood hipertension. -
Ps1 elaborated it for me. 100 % agree. And we dont see from the other side...the cam should be from other angle. For a good scarf hold , its very important to have control of the apponent ´s arm. 1)a)Have you ever seen this move in any NHB match ? I doubt it. I am not saying that what wasnt used before is useless , but I think , that says something. b) The guy seems to do nothing when being pulled. 2) In the case this move could be affective to pull away the guy , coul those short hits knock him down ? What happens in the case the guy is strong inaff to resist those hits , and sweeps the anti grappler ? 3) You can swich ( fast) form scarf hold to side control if you feel unsecure , or being pulled . 4) The start of the 1st move - using the leg -is similar to a common grappling technique , used to escape the hold and re gain control I personally dont like scarf hold that much ... but you have and easy arm bar and shoulder lock there ( and basically that´s it )
