  1. Aww lovely doggie stories! My pup is 12 weeks old now and she went for her first walk yesterday. She had a brilliant time, walking her on her lead was hard though, she was all over the place with no sense of direction, she kept tangling herself up in my legs She was very excited though, everytime she saw another person or dog, even the blowing leaves excited her! Puppy classes start on Tuesday next week, i can't wait, it should be a barrel of laughs. have any of you introduced a puppy to an adult pet cat? My cat Peggy is quite happy to ignore Tish but Tish continues to wind her up. i wouldn't mind but Tish has been on the sharp end of Peggys claws lots of times but she still goes back for more.
  2. We didn't study philosophy in high school but we did study sociology at GCSE level , or O level. In college though after leaving school you can take A levels or degrees in psychology and sociology. I don't think its a too difficult subject to teach in high school and i personally think its good for kids. It gives them an idea of life and shows them the difference between right and wrong.
  3. We don't have this over here but happy thanksgiving everyone
  4. Good luck with that. Make sure you let us know how you get on.
  5. Hey guys have you ever been in this state of mind where you are itching to take a grade. When you feel you are ready but are not allowed because of rules and regulations? I'm already Shodan which i passed in May 2007. Our rules state it has to be 2 years minimum before i can take my Nidan. So of course i have to wait till May next year or even longer depending on when the gradings are set for. There is a Dan grading on Sunday, two of our club members are taking their 2nd Dans, one of them being just 12! The other being a senior adult. I'm not saying the younger one doesn't deserve it because she does, she is great at karate and will have to wait until she is 21 before she can take her 3rd Dan. I think my main problem is jelousy, as well as wanting my sensei to notice me. I have been working really hard just lately and i know i would pass if i was allowed to grade. I have even been giving up a few hours on a saturday afternoon to help teach the kids. Im just worried that my Sensei won't notice me when the time does come for my grading. I'm not asking for advice as such i just wanted to sound off really and was wondering if any of you guys ever get this frustrating feeling of needing to move on and progress! Thanks for listening.
  6. I have never heard of this, have you tried googling it? Sounds interesting though.
  7. Don't talk to me about the Unsu jump I can't do it either! Took me long enough to get the Enpi jump right
  8. On our club website there is a video of my instructor performing this kata, yes i'm biased but he is awesome. The thing i find most difficult with this kata is the jump, our sensei likes us to try to kick our hand!
  9. We don't have a set routine really, it's different every time. Obviously start off with warm ups. Combinations, kata, sparring and sometimes we end classes with kumite. Good fun and hard work all round.
  10. I really can't wait for this to hit our cinema screens, i love Harry Potter they just get better and better every time.
  11. I haven't had the chance to take him yet because he has been spending the saturdays with his dad. Thanks for the advice Tori i will keep it in mind.
  12. My girl is a Terrier Mix, i have no idea what kind of terrier or what else is in her, i just know she is the most gorgeous girl in the world I am having some problems though, she has started showing signs of aggression...only when she is doing something she shouldnt and gets stopped, she tends to snap. She doesn't do it to me, just my partner and my kids...which is a worry. It's like she's trying to take her place in the home and is testing the bounderies, but so far my methods are working and she is getting better. She is having her last Jab on Thursday and i can't wait because i will be able to take her for a walk...she has so much energy to burn! Good luck with the puppy classes Ninjanurse, can't wait to take Tish to them. Brian we had a Boxer once she was called Sally, sadly she died before her time but we adored her, Boxers are a fab breed. P.S what is a crate?
  13. 3.5 years for me, now i have to wait two years for 2nd dan. Time almost up next year.
  14. We always warm up before and after class, and yes it does help, it also helps you wind down slowly. It's very beneficial.
  15. I agree...take the opportunity if it arises...i know i would. I have never been able to defeat my teacher, let alone score a single point...but i always try my hardest to win We don't often have the chance to fight with him but he does tend to pair the in-experienced fighters with the most experienced ones.
  16. I did the exact same thing. Started Shotokan Karate at around 8 years old and was in and out of it. I decided to go back to training at 28 and gained my black belt in 2007. I have never looked back. I think a lot of people would agree on here that for a lot of people and for different reasons MA stays with you, like it's a part of you. I feel that some people are made for it and thats why they return and do so well. I hope you do well with your training and congrats at making the decision to return. Kez x
  17. Don't do it She is really fab. I am definatley going to take her to puppy classes but i cant yet until she has had her last job at 10 weeks old. Thanks for the advice, it's all very tiresome but she is well worth it.
  18. Hey all. I just got a new puppy..well i have had her 2 weeks. She is almost 9 weeks old and gorgeous. I have no idea what breed she is, but she certainly has terrier in her. At the moment she is starting to get the idea that she must go to the toilet outside and not in the house lol. I just have treats at the ready for when she does it right. Now i'm trying to teach her that upstairs and the sofa is out of bounds to doggies. Thats the harder part because when i have to go out she just makes a bee line for the sofa! She is also biting a lot...i know this is just what puppies do but she bites my kids legs and pulls at their clothes with her teeth! The last thing is the crying at night time, sometimes she is so loud and she screeches. She sounds like she is being strangled Anyone got any good hints and tips on puppy training would be much appreciated!
  19. Yay Bluedevil "high five" to the Etan's! Ok i will take him to saturday class and see how he gets on. Swimming is a good idea his dad takes him sometimes but unfortunatly he's in the army so he cant help out as much. I will have to see how much swimming lessons are and put him on the waiting list. Thanks again guys
  20. One doctor actually told me i had tennis elbow!
  21. Thanks tallgeese sounds good. Sometimes it feels like my skin has ripped...obviously it hasn't lol
  22. Joesteph...phew! I wouldn't particularly like that myself. Trust me not to read it properly. Yes now i understand..blocking and gaurding with elbows is a great idea, to protect my ribcage.
  23. Aww thanks for those replies We have a kids class on a saturday afternoon, although they do train there is a real fun element too, i think it will be beneficial to him. I can always help with the teaching too if needs be to keep an eye on him.
  24. I saw this in the paper...brilliant
  25. Have any of you ever experienced a feeling underneath your foot when it seems like the skin has stretched? (sorry best way to describe it). What causes it and why? Any idea's?
