Good idea guys! Lets get all our mums and dads and grandparents into the MA world lol -
Yeah. Time patience and sensativity. If it was me and it was a bad thing you said or did then i would probably make you stew on it for a long time Grovel like mad but go easy on all the presents she will need time. Good luck

Yeah it's fantastic! I have just actually heard that he is 80 years old not 78 -
Wow i am impressed! Our club held a dan grading on sunday. There were four people taking their shodan. One of these people being a 78 year old man! I thought he was brilliant, he didnt have to do the fighting as he is a little stiff with his age but he was very good and deserved the grade. Any of you guys got anyone of this age in their club still taking gradings?
-
Aww this is brilliant. Im not working at the moment cos im a student but holding one job down is hard enough, let alone two. It's brilliant that you can be so flexible, it's good all round.
-
Haha marie that sounds like a good enough reason to me! I'm just terrified of having one done because of the pain lol So i have no tattoo's.
-
Ouch!! That must hurt! Havent really got any quick fix advice but good luck anyway!

Woohoo i woke up this morning without a headache! I still took myself to the doctors cos sometimes they come on during the day. She checked my blood pressure and looked behind my eyes ect. She has finally precribed me anti-biotics and some very strong dispersable aspirin for the pain. So fingers crossed i am on the road to recovery. Man i think this is the worst common cold i have ever had.

5 years is a very long time to reach 2nd kyu. Our gradings are 3 months between kyu grades, from 2nd kyu to 1st kyu its six months, then anything up to a year for your shodan. It does seem odd to, we had to do so much more for our kyu grades...especially for the brown belts. We had to do numerous kata, kumite, kihon ect. But like Brian says, these discrepency isn't uncommon. You just keep up the training and think of all the hard work you are doing.

I'm still bad guys I had to go home early from college today because i couldn't concentrate or stand the pain i was in. It's worse in the bridge and sides of my nose, in my eyes, above my eyes and in the corners near my temples. Every time i moved my head or bent down my head throbbed!. I'm going back to the doctors tomorrow morning and i aint leaving until they do something about it. It's driving me mad and im getting behind on my studying and im not being a very good mummy right now.
-
Congrats...now the training really begins

I think i would probably try to get away rather than fight, i am a big wimp and i don't i would react very well in a situation like that. It was a good idea to go into a nearest shop to call the police ect. Obviously there are occasions when you do need to fight..but i personally prefere not to. I think it takes a lot of bravery to walk away, it's not cowardice at all.

should i ask permission...(read on)
Shotokan-kez replied to avxsk8erpunk's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah cross is right. I study karate and i would like to try aikido at my college. We however, do have to ask for permission but this doesn't mean he says no. -
Cheers guys. Well it turns out i do have sinusitus but the doc said they don't treat it, we just have to let it run its course! I wasn't very impressed because the doctors surgery is miles from where i live and i had to go on the bus even though i was feeling so lousy....only to be told to take paracetamol! They could have told me this over the phone rather than asking me to go in.

Hi guys im having a moan again. Last week 8 days ago i came down with a dreadful cold, that put me on the sofa. I had to take two weeks off college and four sessions off karate! But it seems as though i may need more time to recover. Recently i have noticed i can't bend down without getting awful pain in the back of my head, eyes and nose. It's getting the point that i cant even get up out of a chair without the pain. I can't cough or sneeze or sniffle without it coming. I am also bringing up bright green phlem eewww I feel horrible! So anyway i am going to see my gp today at the emergency doctors because i have been told i may have sinusitus brought on by the cold i had. I hate being ill, i sat a history exam the other day and did really rubbish because i couldn't concentrate and now it looks like i will have to take next week off karate too! Kez x

We don't use this block a lot, but as was mentioned it is seen in lots of kata. I too don't really see the point in it unless you are trapping, that way you can make a quick attack and run for it.
-
Yeah great advice there, i do agree with everything that has been said..Time to put it into practice
-
Oh wow well done! Keep it up. Glad to see you have taken on Karate and welcome to KF...by the way what style is it?
-
Gallon of Red Bull? Haha yeah that may have me bouncing off the walls

This all makes sense. At the end of the lesson we kneel at the front and close our eyes and breath and it really relaxes you. It's just more difficult doing it when you are actually training rather than when you are still. Take Hangetsu the movements in that are awesome, fast slow breathing ect and it is very hard to get it all right. The slow and fast parts of Kata i don't have a problem with, it is the breathing which you have all adviced on. I just don't seem to think about the breathing, so hopwfully if i take all ur advice it will eventually come naturally.
