Butterfly kick
TigerDude replied to cathal's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I think my style would call it "showing off." -
1. You need to re-calibrate your automatic responses. You don't need to throw an elbow as a response to getting bumped into in a crowd. 2. You should have immediately put your arms up & said loudly, "dude! sorry man!" A defensive posture makes it look like you want a fight.

Google plantar fasciitis. It is a very common ailment among the active. "Heel spurs" are more symptomatic than causal of most heel pain.

Try this guy - often discussed in stretching circles. http://www.stadion.com/column.html

"Medium" are really more like magicians - they do tricks. NO one has ever proven it to work. Houdini spent the last years of his life uncovering numerous frauds in the area.

chinese martial art in ufc
TigerDude replied to AceKing's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Any decent boxer will keep their chin down to keep from getting popped on the button. Any decent martial artist will also do so to keep from getting struck in the throat. -
Sounds like Mr/Ms Sensei's Sensei is on a bit of a power trip. I'd drop someone like that like a hot potato.

http://www.landsend.com/cd/index/fp/0,,62,00.html?sid=2543144637560179070See if any of these look good. Really, almost any jacket can be embroidered. I picked Lands End because I know that they do logos themsleves. Look up embroidery in your local yellow pages. They probably sell off-brand jackets that will embroder well (you want to have access to the outer shell). If your sensei has an embroiderer he/she uses, they will probably have at elast a catalog to look through. I have a ton of embroidered business apparel & most of it is no-name stuff.

Rain is not really a source of germs, which is what makes you sick. Just a myth. You could spring for a fancy Gore-Tex jacket.

We learned that you can acctually tell good diamondsw apart from bad ones. While cut is listed as a key attribute, it isn't part of the rating system. You have to use your eyes. Some of the club stores acctually have nice rings at decent prices, so you should at least use them to negotiate price at the regular jewelry stores.

Paranoia in the martial arts
TigerDude replied to RichardHangHong's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The way the Martial Arts schools operate lends itself to people showing their petty side. 1. It's very personal. It's not like buying bolts at the hardware store. 2. The instructor is teaching you, in effect, how to teach other people the same thing. It's a tough business model. 3. It is the instructor's bread basket (or rice bowl if you will). People can get very funny about things that impact their ability to make a living - both real and imagined. -
Lands End has up to 5XL in "limited styles." Try calling them. Good Luck.

Land's End will put a logo on just about anything.

Just stick with the Jundokan.

A towel is really a different effect. It is the bull-whip effect that gives the fast movement at the tip of a towel.

Welcome aboard!

Mr. Scott, your accent had us fooled for years. Welcome. Out.

Who are all these adults who get into fights? I haven't been in a fight since I was 14 & do not expect to ever get in one. If you mean sparring, I agree. But actual fighting is not an experience that people need (nor should they desire) to have.

Fight Science Show
TigerDude replied to Menjo's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I saw a preview on the Today show yesterday here in the States. They combine crash-test engineers with Martial Artists to analyze the forces involved. They showed a quick clip of a Muay Thai knee strike to the chest. The graphics look similar to a show I saw a while back about martial arts weapons. On the surface, it looks worthwhile.
