  1. There you go. You have been rewarded, and you thought you were being held back.
  2. That's cool that you will have someone to work with. Another thing you could do is try to augment things that do irritate the use of your foot. Try to find a different thing to do what you want to do. Don't just give up on it; see what you can come up with. This is part of makin the art your own.
  3. Fighting is fighting. In my opinion, fighting is dirty, no matter what. I heard this saying once: "The only guy who ever complains about getting hit by a cheap shot is the guy who loses." A "cheap shot" would probably fall under your category of dirty fighting. Fighting is what it is, and, in my experiences, there are no rules, no off limits areas, and no areas that cannot be struck. If you are trained to "fight fair," then you are going to be in trouble when you encounter someone whose only concern is putting you down, no matter what it takes.
  4. I would ask them to put gloves on, or augment the contact level a little bit. I used to have this problem when I would just mess around with some of my friends. I would throw very light kicks, and light hand techniques, so as not to hurt anyone, but they would take me down and wrestle me, and they tell me that my stuff wouldn't work, because of what they were able to do. You have to change the contact level to make them understand.
  5. The final fight was a good one. The next season should be great as well.
  6. Nice article. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
  7. Nice article. I like the reasons that you list, and even appreciate the order that they are listed in. If it were me, I would rearrange the order some, but to each his own. And that is exactly what we all get out of our training; our own art!
  8. Very nice. White belt is the toughest stage for most martial artists, simply because there is so much to learn. I like the style with which you approach the white belts' training, laying the ground work for a long and successful career in the martial arts.
  9. There are some similar jokes out there, but I don't think I have heard this version.
  10. Thanks for the site.
  11. I hope it works out for you. Best of luck to you in your training!
  12. It sounds like a rivalry in the making. Be careful approaching this scenario. Make sure to keep your hands up!
  13. I did not get to see this fight. Was it UFC, or a Pride fight? It sounds like it would have been a good one. I work at night, so I hardly ever get to see them anymore. If you have any more info, please let me know.
  14. The martial arts have always interested me, and my dad took me once when I was around 4 or 5. I loved it, but had to stop after a while. Later on, I took it up again at the advice of a friend. I outlasted even him, and have been doing it now for the last 13 years. I hope to go another 13 and beyond.
  15. You will need to use your feet for movement and leverage in grappling, so I would think that you may feel something there. This just in my experiences, however. You may just want to give your foot some time to heal before embarking on any endeavors.
  16. Westerners could do this stuff, I just think we don't worry about being able to do things like this. We concentrate on more practical means of training.
  17. Working a night shift doesn't interfere with my MA schedule too much, it is the mid shifts that do; like 3-11, or 12-8. Those are the ones that kill MA class time.
  18. All good points here. The worst they can do is tell you no. I wish I would have been bolder when I was younger, but I was always afraid of rejection. But, it happens to us all at some point, so we should not run from it. Best of luck, and just let it come to you.
  19. This is how I do it towards my instructor as well.
  20. Try Tabata intervals. Do 20 seconds of burpees, then rest 10 seconds. Do this 8 times total (4 minutes total). Simple but highly effective workout. With respect, Sohan Thanks, I may try that. I may need to get my wife to time the intervals for me!
  21. Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris was a good one. Also, I meant to have Lee vs. Ohara on my list, how I forgot that one, I'll never know!!
  22. Prior to the last few Tekkens, however, his style was claimed Mishima style. Just recently he has claimed Kyokushin.
  23. our school is a outreach of the church we are apart of. we have three classes. adult, beginning class (ages 4 thru and a advanced class (ages 9 - 16) they are small classes which i like as it is easier for me to give each more attention. i have revamped the curriculum and include the following.... orange belt - basic technique green belt - advanced technique red belt - basic grappling/free style wrestling/jui-jitsu blue belt - close order combat/sparring/grappling purple belt - pressure points and choke holds brown belt - more grappling and advanced jui-jitsu combined with karate black belt - street fighting/with more grappling/jui-jitsu/karate/and detailed study of body language and situational ethics placing the student in street situations. I include kumite, kata, and self-defense. I encourage my students that running or walking away from a fight is not being a coward but a wise choice. We promote according to ability. we charge very little and have street kids coming in now. If anyone has any suggestions on curriculum i am all ears! Nice approach. I like it.
