  1. That would probably be a good move on his part. But in 15 years time.....he would have to have a BIG fight purse to make that up, I'm guessing.
  2. Maybe....you should feel lucky??
  3. A very nice article; I like the approach.
  4. I will look into it, thank you!
  5. Your lesson plan should "be like water..." Very nice, Jiffy!
  6. Very good point. Always be willing to make an effort to help students, but do not lie to them if you don't know something.
  7. Sorry to hear this. Maybe she will return sometime, when they get figured out exactly what they want to do.
  8. Will that start to affect my weight training, i.e., make me more tired, and restrict my results?
  9. I have a contract signed where I go, but the money is withdrawn monthly from my account, so I don't have to worry about writing a check every month.
  10. Good stuff!!!
  11. That would be the biggest celebrity match ever!!
  12. Good luck to you!! Let us know how it goes.
  13. TKD has some roots in Shotokan karate, as a matter of fact. However, in order to differentiate, they elaborated on the kicking, and it became more dynamic. There are differences between ITF and WTF TKD, and a search will help with that.
  14. 1. I used to be certified in CPR, but have not renewed for some time. I do believe it is a good idea for black belts and instructors. As for what the Sempai was doing, I have not a clue. You'd have to ask him. 2. Being overweight is a problem, and it has been discussed here before. Hopefully it is something that the student is working on, and wants to improve, and that is why he is there. Unfortunately, the only way the instructor can control it is by what he does in class; he could restrict his progress as motivation for losing weight, but that is about it. 3. Doing knuckle push-ups should not cause any problems. However, if you work with your hands, and are concerned about damaging or not being able to use them because they are sore, you may want to address this concern to your instructor.
  15. Good point here. I remember reading Machado's book on BJJ, and reading about how he taught some of his classes, and worked positions and techniques, etc. It made me wish I was there.
  16. His practice of randori is what gave his students the edge over the more "leathal" moves and training that the JJJ practitioners did. The Gracies have benefited the same way. I personally think that is a big benefit for wrestlers as well.
  17. Even though the guy is a blue belt, he may still be qualified to teach. You would have to check with the standards of the organization, but you may still be able to learn something from him. Remember, it takes about 10 years to get a black belt in BJJ, so who knows how much time this guy may have in. Did you do any work with him, or just watch a class?
  18. Good to see that you were able to figure out what you wanted to do. Best of luck to you, and enjoy your journey!!
  19. It doesn't seem very fair to the rest of the students. Why would they do this??
  20. Just because a guy can pull a car by their....you know....doesn't mean they are great fighters. It is just a different aspect of what they study.
  21. Yeah, that roughing the passer call was bunk, IMO. They have to let them play....its a contact sport, for crying out loud!!! Pretty soon, defensive players won't even be able to look at a QB funny without getting penalized.
  22. I think owning exotics is ok, if there is proper certification that the animal can be owned, and the responsibility is taken to care for them properly. Personally, I like dogs. I currently have no pets.
  23. It was good, but it just didn't hit home as one of my faves.
  24. Groin guard, protector, etc.
