Just don't start bowing to him before you go to the bathroom! -
You make a very good point here.

another question about belt lol
bushido_man96 replied to nystangkid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It varies from style to style. Some styles don't even have ranks. Kung fu uses sashes. Thai boxing and boxing don't have rankings. That said, you typically start at white, then move onto a green, then perhaps blue, towards brown, and then a red or black belt. My system of TKD goes white, orange, green, blue, brown, and black. Each color (except white) has a lo and a hi grade, until brown, which has a lo, mid, and hi grade. Then, you get recommended black, then full black. -
I can attest to this. If I had a nickel for everyone that ever told me that "they want to get into it," or "I am coming back to it," then I would never have to teach a class to make a profit.

He is a singer who rights parodies of top artists' songs. They are quite funny.

Welcome, stormbringer! So cool that you are even familiar with where I live. But how did you end up in Belgium? -
Nope, doesn't ring a bell.

I was skeptical about Eragon as well, but I did enjoy the books. I think that if Eragon wasn't so close in similarity to the name Aragorn, people wouldn't quite think of it as much.

I am as well, Kirsty. I have read the Lord of the Rings series, have read the first two books of The Iheritance Trilogy (Eragon, Eldest), and have also read the first 4 books of the Song of Ice and Fire. They are all fantasy based reads.

Kind of a side note, an my wife's laptop, I have a screen-saver with words floating around saying "I love my wife!" You have two wives???? With respect, Sohan

I don't hear much of his newer stuff, but I know of some of his older stuff. "I lost on Jeapordy," and "Oreo" come to mind. They are great for a laugh. Country music has a version of him, called Cletus T. Judd. He has some funny stuff as well, if you listen to country music.

Good luck to you! What did you decide to go with? -
Thanks for the tips. They are all helpful. We have a pull-up resistance machine at the gym, but I don't get much out of it. I am going to start raising the weight, and doing fewer reps, to build the strength.

It most likely has a "style" name. It should be visible somewhere in the school.

Ain't that the truth i spent my childhood in plainville and stockton so i know you don't have a whole lot of choice in that area. You grew up in Kansas? That's kind of cool. I was born in Norton, went to preschool, kindergarten, and 1st grade in Plainville, and then moved to Colby, where I graduated high school. Then came to Hays to go to college.

I say go ahead. You say it inspires you now, but the source of your inspiration may change later on. Or, you may not even need any at all. -
A really basic makiwara board would be a 2x4 or maybe a little bit bigger board wrapped in rope. Then you could build a platform for it, or put it in the ground.

Patrick, you read my thoughts. It really isn't much different from toy cop sets or anything like that. Heck, this is just marketing. Every company does it with every product they are trying to sell. The sales of this toy are not going to wreck the reputation of the martial arts. It really isn't any worse than martial arts movies and cartoons that have characters flying around or doing outlandish moves that more often than not involve some kind of wire work.

Welcome to the Forums! What style will you start in?

Thanks. If you agree with the above i guess that begs the question, why do you continue to train with your school if it doesnt offer those things? The answer: nowhere else to train. Better to have some training, as opposed to no training. I enjoy what I do, I just realize what it lacks as well.

This week, the Chiefs get a prime-time AFC West match-up (thanks to the new flex schedule used by the NFL and NBC) at the home of the San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs will have the yeoman's task of stopping LaDanian Tomlinson, along with trying to slow down a respectable passing game, led by the arrival of Phillip Rivers at the QB position. The running game on both sides will be huge, as Larry Johnson and LaDanian Tomlinson rank #1 and #2, respectively, in the NFL in rushing yards. How many TDs will Tomlinson get today? Who knows? Hopefully, the Chiefs will go on a terror for Lamar Hunt.

The sequel is good, too. I can't wait to read the third one, Inheritance. With the series being a trilogy, there should be three movies as well. We'll see if it can run like Lord of the Rings did.

As opposed to a lot of supplements, there has been a lot of recommendations for protien shakes. You may want to look into some recipes for those instead. Also, they may save you money over buying supplements.

Thanks for the info, Sohan. One question I do have for you: Do you do them with your hands facing away, or facing toward you? I have felt that the hands facing out focus on the back more, and facing in, involve the biceps more. I could be wrong, so I was wondering. Thanks.
