  2. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my friends here at KF!
  3. Thank you Bob! 12/21/2021 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 285x1, 315x5. Bench Press: 45x5x2, 115x5, 155x3, 205x1, 225x5, 225x5, 225x5. Lat Pull-downs: 177.5x8, 177.5x8, 177.5x8, 177.5x8. Triceps Press-downs: 65x10, 65x10, 65x10. Everything was heavy today, especially the deadlifts.
  4. Thank you so much, Bob! These days, my workouts seem like two steps forward, and one step back. I missed another 5 day stretch with a crazy week at work. We had high winds causing lots of damage, downing power poles, and driving fires across our county and several others with lots of damage to homes and farmsteads. It was a rough week. 12/20/2021 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 165x5, 225x3, 275x5, 275x5, 275x5. Press: 45x5x2, 75x5, 115x3, 135x5, 140x5, 145x5. Lat Pull-downs: 175x8, 175x8, 175x8, 175x8. TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Black Belt Class. Did Do-Kangs 1-4, and then did three-steps, 1-12, doing each one twice.
  5. That is a great goal, Bob! Here's to making it happen! I haven't really set any goals these last few years, and don't plan to set any this year, for the time being anyways.
  6. 12/14/2021 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 285x1, 325x5. Bench Press: 45x5x2, 115x5, 155x3, 205x1, 235x5, 235x5, 235x5. Lat Pull-downs: 177.5x5, 177.5x5, 177.5x5, 177.5x5, 177.5x5. Triceps Press-downs: 65x10, 65x10, 65x10. Stretch: hams, quads, glutes. Deadlift felt like I could have done a second set of 5. I'm going to be moving the triceps press-downs to just the days I bench press, that way I don't mess with the bench press numbers.[/u]
  7. Well, rule number one is don't get yourself in trouble your first week of marriage! Congrats on getting married, Ash!

Slowly crawling the numbers back up.

Decided to add in some triceps work, too.
  10. I hope that is the case, too. I'd love to see more about legitimate Taekkyeon.
  11. 12/7/2021 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 285x1, 315x5. Bench Press: 45x5x2, 115x5, 155x3, 205x1, 225x5, 225x5, 225x5. Lat Pull-downs: 167.5x8, 167.5x8, 167.5x8, 167.5x8. Stretch: hams, quads, glutes.
  12. Good to hear that, Bob! I keep praying for you!
  13. I know TKD did not come from Taekkyeon, and that it's actual influence on modern TKD is rather insignificant, hence my initial post. Nor do I believe modern TKD has much of any connection with Soo Bak. It is unfortunate that the politics have caused the tumult they have in Taekkyeon, and also caused the issues with the historical fallacies of TKD.
  14. 12/6/2021 Strength Training Squats: 45x5x2, 165x5, 225x3, 285x1, 315x5, 285x5, 285x5. Press: 45x5x2, 75x5, 115x3, 135x5, 135x5, 135x5. Power Snatch: 65x2, 80x2, 100x2, 100x2, 100x2, 100x2, 100x2. Lat Pull-downs: 165x8, 165x8, 165x8, 165x8. Stretch: hams, quads, glutes. So, after a long stretch of consistent training and steady gains, I missed 5 days due to a long road trip for a football game that my youngest got to play in. So, after coming back, I thought backing squat off to 315 would be manageable...but I didn't think that after that first set. So, just about all the big lifts have been backed off. TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Black Belt Class. Warmed up with Do-Kangs 2 and 3, doing 2 twice. From there, we went into the punch/parry flow drills we've been experimenting with for self-defense work. We did some headlock self defense work, as well.
  15. Thanks for sharing this information, eighthundred. Very insightful. In the video of what you stated was Widae, I thought the hand motions were very interesting, and very different from most that we do in TKD as blocking or parrying techniques.
  16. Man, what jungle are you training in now! If you did a deep enough first step, it seems like you could facilitate a nice takedown by blocking his heel when you do the knife to the throat.
  17. Congrats to all, and thank you to those who voted for me! This community is a cherished place!
  18. The fact that this is what bothers you about Batman is kind of odd.... there are so many others....
  19. 11/30/2021 Strength Training Deadlifts: 135x5, 185x5, 245x3, 305x1, 350x5. Bench Press: 45x5x2, 115x5, 155x3, 205x1, 242.5x5, 242.5x5, 242.5x5. Lat Pull-downs: 165x8, 165x8, 165x8, 165x8. Stretch: hams, quads, glutes. 350 deadlifts was a PR set of 5. Bench went slower.
  20. That sounds really lonely. What experiences have lead you to that conclusion?I can relate to this. Many who don't understand it will often poke at you with the typical stereotypes of the excessive "HYAAs" and "WHAAAs" while standing in goofy poses waving their hands. And perhaps asking you to "show them some moves" that they won't understand or will believe they already have the counter for. That, and the desire to keep it from being public knowledge otherwise provides and unseen advantage in an encounter. Most of the people I work with know that I'm the Martial Arts guy. I used to teach defensive tactics in my department, but haven't in some time. Some of the people I work with will freely offer this information to total strangers at times, too, which is quite annoying. Some people will offer genuine discussion at times, but not often, and after a while, they don't know what I'm really saying. As mentioned earlier, that is what makes this community so great. It provides that outlet that not many of us have in daily life.
  21. Great points so far. I would add that in the world of grappling, especially as a beginner, the rule of thumb would be to tap early and tap often. It can be tough to adapt to, especially after spending a lot of years excelling at your previous style, but being a beginner in BJJ will be a very humbling experience. If it feels like your partner has got a move sunk in, tap out, instead of trying to resist it or grit your teeth thinking you can hold out. Tapping will be your friend.
