generally speaking internal styles take longer to use in a fighting situation then most other styles.A lot of time is spent on the internal(like breathing, stance and chi qong) which takes a long time. I would not worry about how long it would take you.If your really into this style ,and are comited to a life time of training then you will get their eventually.the best thing to do is ask the other students in the class how long they've been with the sifu and get an idea at what level of skill they are.that will give you an idea where you might be if you put in the time as they have. -
I would go to his home.Bring a friend if you can if you can.Ask Questions but most of all ask him to deminstrate and explain how his style works. If he can't do at lest that much I would leave.Myself, I would test him out because I would not waste my time with someone who could be all talk. All the teaches I've learned from I've tested their skill. If you ask in the right way it should not be a big deal.

How to grade Kung-Fu
stonecrusher69 replied to stonecrusher69's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
I agree every system is different.A 2nd dan in say T.W.D may not be the same in training years or skill level say to a 2nd dan from Gojo Karate, but at least you have something to compare it to.You could say these two men are similiar in training and experience.I hear sometimes people who train in Kung fu say they are a 5th degree Black Belt I guess based on the years they put in. -
I just like to ask a general question.I'm sure it's been brought up before but how would a person(say me) who has studied and been training in the Chinese Martial arts for 25 yrs be ranked compared to someone in a style like Karate that has a ranking system..In my style we have no rank,so How would you put your self or compare to someone say in karate who is a 2nd Dan BB?

Sticky feet?
stonecrusher69 replied to Mtal's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Sticky legs play a major role in Wing Chun training.Which is further devopled on the wooden dummy and the 3 stake kicking dummy. The legs should be develope to the same level as the hands.Once the hands and legs are developed then they can work together. -

The purpose of the Sticky legs drill is to develope the ability to detect the opponents movement through leg contact. With practice one can defend agaist any kick or intention. -
