  1. I'd say about a third of the time this isn't true. There are alot of mixed martial art places that have now begone to get alot of "mcdojos" as well as their traditional counter parts. what!? nooooo! i can handle stupid karate mcdojos... but not mma! this is blasphemy....
  2. Attack his collar- it doesnt require a great deal of movement on your behalf, and it may bug him enough to start defending (otherwise you just may catch him). you know I do do that sometimes....
  3. I'm going to go ahead and reinforce what I said earlier, that (except perhaps at the knee for reasons other than board-breaking related and so on) it is not practical to break a leg with a kick. In fact, it's impossible. The hardest kicking thai boxers in the world can't do it! (Maybe it's happened once, but if so I haven't heard of it.)
  4. ...well it certainly seems right to the japanese government. haha, sorry... i just cant let that one go. too much.
  5. True, although you should note an "armbar" is a manuever that breaks the arm at the elbow, perhaps you're thinking of a kimura or key lock (shoulder things)? Those are maneuvers you can use to control someone's movement without necessarily breaking anything. Anyway, in my particular case, I'm lucky in a way because I don't have to arrest anyone, just render the other guy no longer threatening.

  7. Actually, forget the fancy stuff is what I think you meant. Unless an armbar just blatantly presents itself to me, I wouldn't go for it. Even if it did I'd probably just break his nose. But to be more specific- take care of business by putting him on his back. Simplest way, if you ask me- how many punk guys know BJJ? Or even wrestling?
  8. mixed martial artist, so depending on my opponent, i probably want to ground n pound him. fact is, most any punk on the street has no idea what to do on the ground, and except for simple submissions (such as a key lock) im not too likely to try and sacrifice my position if somethign screws up when i can just as easily- no, more easily- beat his face in real quick.
  9. you know the more i think about it, the more i think that the arrow on that diagram should be on the left side of the circle, rather than coming out of the middle. in which case, the circular motion would obviously add something.
  10. it was where break dancing came from.
  11. unless his fat ... lays right on top of you and doesnt move.
  12. Circling around and throwing the jab.
  13. If the guys moronic enough to kneel on my legs Im going to shrimp out and pull guard, probably open guard just to kick him away. My free arm is going to be covering my head or whatever else hes trying to punch. Depending on just how hes kneeling on my legs (weird position, not the smartest) I might just be able to take his back. Or... if I can shrimp out and stand up fast enough while he's still kneeling, he'll find a knee in his face.
  14. Yea, mixed martial arts is no joke. They're going to (or at least supposed to) teach you how to fight hardcore with little or no rules.
  15. With the usefullness in the real world thing- it's thai boxing all the way.
  16. In fact, isn't it also silly when in rap songs they say "cock the glock" because it rhymes or something, when in actuality you don't even have to. Shows what they know....
  17. Man, I don't know. Tough call, he's at the top of his game right now for sure, but Pride does have some fantastic fighters. I'd really like to find out though. Chuck said he wanted to take on Silva after he won the belt, too.
  18. I like Menjo's idea of ending a fight with a kick, which is why I like my thai kick so much. Nothing hits harder, and just about anyone untrained out there won't be able to stand a real good one to the right spot in their leg. Also, since I'm on thai boxing- you know the teep? (If not, just google it). It's just a feeler, barely a kick at all, but it's fast, not hard to make accurate, and sneaky. While not legal in the ring, what a great way to hit someones nuts. If they're really tough and still come after you (believe me, it still hurts), hit them there a second time harder now that they're more vulnerable.
  19. Ooookay. When your lead foot is aimed at the center of your opponent's body, it puts you in proper position so that he or she is not too far left or right of you. It also makes it so that you are centered and ready to throw all strikes in your arsenal, from a jab to a legkick. Imagine if your opponent were too far to your left, a rear kick with your right leg would almost surely miss. Likewise, if he were too far to your right, your left hand is too far away to hit him. This all goes double for when grappling is involved, because if you are not facing your opponent straight on and are centered, he can manipulate angles to clinch or pull off a takedown and you will be much more powerless to stop it. This is the position all thai boxers and at least most mixed martial artists are taught, and while nothing is perfect or absolute, it is generally always saught after. As for the foot being pointed, if you want to be maneuverable it has to be pointed foward. Pointed right (if its your left foot) is just weird and awkward, and pointed to the left is a nice set up for a thai kick, but for anything else, like moving, it is awkward and will slow you down.
  20. but... but justice.... he's recognized by the japanese govermnet!!! how can you argue with that? (snicker).
  21. True, but they talk about power lifting in there too, and strenght. The most important thing in there for guys who come here though is information about DIET. Look up protein powders, I'm sure there are a ton of threads on the different types, brands, times to take them, etc etc etc- there is so much info to know I don't feel like typing it all out, and I'd surely still forget something if I did. They'll also tell you all about good carbohydrates, vitamines, all that stuff.
  22. Why oh why would anyone ever want to hit something with the instep of their foot?
  23. So what's the whole story with this biting thing, now I'm curious.
  24. Although, maybe the critics are right. Without biting training, its not true street fighting! Or eye gouging! I wonder how people train biting anyway, put something between their teeth and chomp?
