Right- if we're talking front kicks, the trebuchet style you refer to, I sometimes hear it called a snap kick, whatever... is not the most powerful kick. Besides that, I thought we were talking kicks coming from the side, i.e. roundkicks, thai kicks, roundhouse kicks, whatever.

Chuck Liddell's KO power
TheAnimal replied to UseoForce's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
The biggest reason Chuck would want to avoid Pride is Wanderlei, I'd think. Although, a good reason to go there would be Wanderlei, if you think about it. Not to mention the money now that he's UFC champ.... I don't know about those Judo guys takin Chuck down even, he's gooood at staying up. And at getting up. -
Facing a Dilema

Sometimes too many different places can mess with your head anyway. I'd say you're doin a good amount already, so long as it's not interfering with the rest of your life. I wouldn't add anymore, it will become redundant anyway. -
Anyone ever just get ticked off when you roll with some guy twice your size and less skilled than you, but good enough to not get tapped out so he eventually gets you- almost solely because he's a big fat... guy. I'm in a bit of a mood at the moment, I don't mind admitting.

Chuck Liddell's KO power

Experienced wrestler, yea, that's why it's so hard to get him to the ground, and to keep him there. But Chuck isn't a big BJJ guy- so a good enough ground-n-pounder or submission artist would still have the edge- while still on the ground. At a grappler's quest Chuck probably wouldn't win against the brown and black belts, maybe even purples... unless he got away with getting points from takedowns, getting back up, and doing it again the entire time. -
Depends on how it's applied, because in the end effective fighting usually looks about the same from whatever "style" you learn. With that said, I don't see Capoeira teaching you all that much as far as combat is concerned, but dancing and stuff like that, yea, it sure looks cool and stuff.

Your friend is so incredibly wrong, that if he were any more wrong, he would be breaking the laws of the universe in doing so.

the bo is too big, so between the other two i guess. i still prefer the knife or gun, but yea.

I usually have my pocket knife with me, occasionally I'll be carrying my gun. Trick is, at least in my state, don't draw unless you're already going to fire, and don't fire unless you're in danger. Done deal.

Chuck Liddell's KO power

Oh yea, all his good punches come from odd angles, because he so well manipulates the other fighter into being where he shouldn't, and bam, Chucks right there with a fist in his jaw. Wish I was that good. You've probably heard the addage before "it's the ones you DONT see coming that knock you out." Too true, even Randy (may his career rest in peace, Ill miss him) couldn't get him to the ground but for a second- and Chuck got right back up. I'm starting to think he's not going to get beat for a while- it'll take someone like Randy (who's now gone) to beat him (literally) on the ground once getting him there, or someone as good as Vanderlei (how do you spell that?) to beat him on his feet. I remember right after Chuck fought Randy the first time, when he lost, Randy had said that Chuck only needed to tweak his game a little bit... and it appears hes done just that. Anyway, this should be an interesting time, maybe a new era in the UFC. -

I'm with Andrew, that guys a megolomaniac and a moron. I'd kick his ... if he berated me like that, 7th dan or not. That way he'll maybe learn his place, as will his students learn about him. (I'm evil.)

Those are actually unrelated things.

The principles of the whip (ie the towel) does occur in karate. Techniques are classified as "push" or "throw". A front snap kick is a throw techique, utilizing the summation of forces or large (shortened) masses (levers) rotating around a central point (generally the hip region), when this motion is halted the forces are conserved (conservation of angular momentum) in the smaller lighter segments of the lever producing a much higher velocity. The damage of the weapon is determined by the over all mass of the moving object, its velocity and the contacting surface area. Basic biomechanics 101 If you like I can supply some excellent references that explains these principles in as much detail as you like. What you described is a lever-arm. Not anything resembling a whip. The two things are completely different.

Medium carbs, low calories and low fat. carbs you need to live, so get them. calories are what become fat when in excess, so limit them. saturated fats are bad period, so avoid them at all costs. unsaturated fats are good, but calorie rich, so consume a small amount.

ammendment- it is technically possible to get too much vit c, but its really hard. just dont pop tens of thousands of mgs a day. and dont take a lot period unless you think youre about to be sick, unless youre active and can sweat as well as pee out the additional vit c left. basically, not much to worry about.

Improve Punching and Kicking Power.
TheAnimal replied to Toby's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, for KICKING power youll need LEG strengh and CORE strength, so squats, leg presses, ab work, deadlifts, will all help. A bench wont do much. Target the obliques too- twists and so on... usually practicing your kicks is enough for those muscles.
