experienced vs. inexperienced
striking_cobra replied to Assassin_with_sais's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
good questions, i would much rather defend myself against an inexperienced person rather than an experienced one. -
indeed a fan can be used as a weapon. i'm not saying they are as dangerous as some weapons but just for a few examples, they can be utilized open or closed, closed it gives the user extra reach, it could be used to poke out an eye ect. an open fan can be used as a feign or foil. as far as the quesiton i would pick something more practical, like the knife, to start with but that's just me.

hey there, in my opinion a stylist armed with a tai chi sword would be able to defend him or herself in combat, if that person is trained and experienced. as far as i'm concerned (now this is coming out of my background so if you disagree sorry) a sword is merely an extension of the stylist...so if two people faced off in a sword dual the winner would be the one who trained more and knows their weapon better. as far as forms are concerned i feel that they are good to practice and to know, but only because they teach a person how to move, they teach balance, strength ect. but forms don't win fights. battle is chaos. well, there are my two cents... good luck

What is CDT
striking_cobra replied to street fighter's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
street fighter, c-d-t (compliance-direction-takedown) this is a system of modified techniques that, (as you most likely know), is supposed to diffuse a threatening attacker without hurting them. (no a 5 year old couldn't take down a kidnaper with cdt...it's designed for people 12 and older) personally i think the system is crap. (i'm sorry anyone who think's it's viable but that's my oppinion, here's why.) first of all the entire course is two days...i think the only thing a person would get out of it, would be hurt. if someone think's they can stop a dangerous person with two days of training is dreaming...(i went through daat training so i know something about that lol). secondly...if someone is attacking you, why on earth would you not defend yourself to the full extent of your abilities? get what i mean? hey there's my two cents if anyone disagree's with me that's fine this is just one opinion. -

BJJ useful?
striking_cobra replied to Maddwraph's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
i studied bjj for a long while and while i love it and i think it's a very effective sport i know there are flaws with it that make it (in my opinion) bad bad bad for street use. (i've heard a million arguments to the statements i will present but take my word for it.) one...you don't want a street fight to hit the ground, and you don't want to waste any time taking the person or people out...you don't know who else is waiting around to help the person and when it becomes two or three against one bjj isn't going to save you. (as you are on the ground and it's pretty hard to grapple with more than one person at a time.) two...you know what...i could say more, i have multiple reasons as to why bjj is ineffective for street but i think one is enough, if you don't believe me read it again. -
kung fu...i study kung ling kung fu and i've been doing weapons training, including knife since white belt. the only weapon with a belt restriction in my school is sword, which starts at brown belt.
