Some might not get the humour behind this - kind of a UK thing Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their new wives duties to perform: Terry had married a woman from Scotland, and bragged that he had told his new wife to do all the dishes and house cleaning in the house. He said it took a couple of days but on the third day he came home to a clean house and all the dishes were cleaned and put away. James had married a woman from Ireland and he bragged that he had given his new wife orders to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. He told them the first day he didn't see any results, but the next day it was better and by the third day his house was clean, the dishes done and there was a huge meal on the table. The third man said the he had married a Lancashire lass. He boasted that the duties he had ordered her to do were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table every day. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but by the third day most of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little bit out of his left eye; enough to fix himself a bite to eat, load the dishwasher and call a landscaper.

As has been said above, you just have to know your limitations, there is nothing to stop you keeping up exercise if you are feeling good - if you are going to miss it that much I am sure that your instructors can find something for you to do - be it even teaching the lower grades. Ultimately though you have to llok out for yourself, and that all depends on how you progress through your pregnancy. With having 2 kids I am sure you know that sometimes you feel on top of the world, others like you never want to get out of bed. Above all, be healthy x P.S The trying for the baby is the fun bit anyway

I am in 100% agreement there. Racism, ageism etc absolutely infuriates me. I overheard my Dad saying horrific things about other races when I was little. I could have turned out a lot worse if I had listened to him. I am determined that my daughter will be respectful of all people regardless of age, race, gender. I think words can cause pain lasting pain and children should not be taught to hate based on appearances.

Just thought would say thanks again for the help. First lesson Thursday night. Let me know what you think of this plan. Bearing in mind this lesson is generally kids, and is up to 5th Kyu Blue belt Shukokai. I know the techniques etc wont be the same but here goes. 10-15 mins warm up, general stretching - running around etc. Moxo meditation 10 mins basic blocks, strikes and kicks, moving up and down dojo in different stances 20 mins on focus mitt routine. Different combination of strikes and kicks 10 mins sparring 10-15 mins on kata, getting different grades up at a time going throught their kata Last 10 mins padwork game - two teams running up to pad and do face punch. First team with everyone back wins, other team press ups!! (Seems to go down well with kids usually) Moxo meditation then announcements Any suggestions welcome x

Was it a club tournament purely for your association or an open tournament? I can't imagine that no-one else has complained. Obviously as it is a different style I can't really comment on how you judge competitions but I would assume in the same way that gradings are judged that instructors are usually someone you respect and look up to. Any black belt who sniggers and marks favourably towards their friend will never earn anyones respect. Just picking young kids to make up the numbers as judges seems a little off. Surely one judge you respect is better than the situation you ended up in?

OO i dunno about that. Cant quite picture Locke as the sensitive type somehow. But it wouldnt be Lost without twists and turns to characters

You definitely need to find out what the pain is relating to - it could just be that your legs aren't used to the positions you find yourself in for your stances. I have had a bad left knee for years, it stopped me practicing for a couple of years and I now know my limitations. Am almost always ok in the actual lessons but its during the warm up I feel the pain. Now I am not a fitness expert but personally I find that squats are not a good idea, standing on one leg and flicking the other out, front kick style loosens your joint. Is also does not put any heavy pressure on your knee so is a good one I find.

They don't usually start languauges until high school - aged 11. But my daughter is lucky. She is a member of a spanish club at her primary school but thats out of school so I have to pay for it. Not that I mind cos I think like you, that kids these days need to understand different languages in the same way they need to use a computer. Its vital I know a bit of basic french but always kick myself for not learning more languages at school. My daughter thinks its great that she can count to ten in Japanese, Spanish and French... bless

Thanks all As a small club we have a lesson with varied ages and levels. its hard to find a mix and I agree with Sohan that its hard to cram everything into an hour lesson. Especially with the mix of people we have. I appreciate all your comments and just hope I can do a good job!!

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965) I'll have what she's having. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY 1989 My style, you can call the art of fighting without fighting. Bruce Lee - Enter the Dragon 1973

I guess it all depends on how much you want to live the lifestyle. If you completely adhere to your clubs rules and are passionate about the complete study then you have to find some way to compromise. I basically agree with the general consensus that you do have to abide by your sensei's rules. It is his club and there are others out there that are probably less strict. Although if it is a safety issue for your self or others then there is no compromise. Personally no I wouldnt want to cut my hair but as a woman i think it is slightly more of a big deal. That may sound sexist but hair does tend to be a womens thing. Although in saying that one young black belt at our club went for the whole shaolin monk effect for his black belt grading. Completely looked the part - purely cosmetic. Have you heard of hair clips (sorry if that sounds flippant) -
Am sorry if this is in the wrong thread guys Am taking my instructors award shortly and I need to take 2 lessons. One is a beginners session and the other basically a general lesson. Just need some tips on keeping the kids interested and the adults challenged!! Whats a general good idea for a lesson plan that will get everyone involved? Or any tips etc - anything will help!!
