  3. In my school, we have to fight for every test regardless of the rank being tested for. The number of opponents and duration varies depending on the rank being tested for.
  4. It could very well be for that reason indeed. You really do need to stregthen your back as well as your chest. Iwould recomend seated rows and bicep curls for starters.
  5. Yeah, I hear that alot too. I think it itimidates some people honestly, and so they say that they have tried it. But, I bet the percentages is fairly high for people who at least the martial arts for a little while.

  7. You could do a "Kicks for Kids" Fundraiser where people get pledges for the number of continuous kicks they can do. Then you could have a paty after the event with pizza movies and games.

  9. I have some sad news to share with the group. My instructor called me last night to tel me Ken Eubanks passed away last weekend due to a hart attack. Ken was very involved in NASKA and RSKC associations. He also promoted the Bluegrass Nations every year. The MA community lost a great supporter.
  10. What are you goals in starting a martial art? Would you like to be skilled in self defense, full contact, point fighting? Are you looking for personal growth or fitness? If you could give us an idea, we would be more able to give you some ideas.

  12. I would recomend a balance between your two scenarios. Definately don't go on an empty stomach, but don't eat real heavy foods before hand either. Msybe salad, fuit, or a source of protein. Also, make sure your body is properly hydrated-this will help your body deal with the stress of a workout.
  13. Personally, I don't like to exercise to exhaustion. I think it breaks down more tisue than it builds-especially when done every time that you lift.
  14. I think the ultimate componant of a winning form is technique as you said. I do think that presentation and confidance very very important as well however. Since it is a presure situation like self defense, I think how you present yourself correlates to how you would respond in a real situation.

  16. What are some ways that governing bodies of point fighting tournaments can insure fair judging? I'm not going to name names, but I have been to several tournaments where I thought the judging was biased and unbalenced. I know these organizations do not certify their judges, so what do you think could be done? This applies to both forms and sparing.
  17. I'm curious what movies everyone thinks were bad for the martial arts world? Are there any that you think paint the martial arts in a bad light? I enjoy the coreography, but sometimes I wonder if Steven Segal and Van Damme amoung others put a negative spin on the MA. I have had some people, who are not familar with the martial arts, tell me that they believe martial art training encourages people to be violent.
  18. I agree. You definately need to do cardoi and arobic on alternate days. And with lifting make sure to give your body a rest day now and then to recover, but definately do not lift every day.
  19. I studt Tang Soo Do. I belong to the World Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation under Grandmaster Jae Joon Kim. I have been training for 19 years.
  20. For my stylle we need we need to know all of the moves approximately 30 kicks, 20 hand techniques. We also need to know combinations, one step self defense, free style fighting, an oral terminology test, knife self defense, and be able to break 2-3 boasrds and a brick. Before the test there is a written exeamination. The test can be grueling, but it is very rewarding.
  21. I really enjoyed the Street Fighter anime. The portrail of Ryu was great.
