I have often been asked this and I really don't know. Jittie is fun and I do it well but at the same time I can't say I like it better than other kata. I like Tekki Sandan and Shodan not a big fan of Nidan. Empi is prob. my favorite kata to preform at least until the jump which I SUCK at. LOL. I also enjoy Hangetsu, Giin, Sochin. Again I really don't know that I have a favorite because each give a litt.e While I was comming up the ranks I loved Heian Yondan which I still do but I can't yet pick a favorite kata for some reasons.

Elbow is the safest and prob the simplest to do but I prefer palms and knife hands. Not a fan of foot breaking only because I don't like holding boards for kickers lol so I know they don't like holding them for me.

Just the way it is. Same reason we think rock music is evil, blondes are dumb, and people with glasses are nerds. Maybe their is some truth to it but not enough for it to be a fact. Dont lose any sleep over it. OK...

It has moves for staff defense in it. I have done most of the Heian Kata with a Bo however I have never tried Jittie. Honestling I think the first few moves would be a bit difficult as well as the stomp and backfist section but Im sure it could be applyed.

Like I said we don't do it but I have done it and from what Ive found it has nothing to do with rank or MA ability anyone can do it if they have enough guts.

Should make local tournments intresting lol. -
yeah jiin or as we say it Giin is the third kata in that group. All prob. came from the same base kata and have developed over time. Giin is one of my favorite kata but its not practiced a lot. Im also a big fan of Jittie. Jion is ok but I like the other 2 better.

Conquering My Fears
G95champ replied to karatekid1975's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Ive always said you don't learn from winning but you do from losing. With that said never let the other person know they won. If they hit you and it hurts laugh it off. We are all animals and can smell fear. When I was in HS the NO FEAR shirts were huge. I loved them. Thats not to sound mancho or anything just act like you have faith in yourself and your techinque because at least them the other person will thank you do and that hurts them more than you will ever know. -
Conquering My Fears

KK75 Good Read Hardest thing to do is get back on the horse after you have been tossed. Thankfully I have always been to stupid to think about it before I got back up. LOL. I always break my students into sparring. I will work them just hand and let them block then I let them block and counter. Then I bring in slow kicks and just slowly pick the pace up. Because once you get gun shy its hard to have faith in yourself. A I am a big fan in the idea ifyou don't get hit you don't learn. Pain is a great teacher as is fear. Both can teach you a lot but the thing you always have to know is that fear and pain can never win. Unless you let them. -
How to deal with the kids class troublemaker?
G95champ replied to OrenJuMok's topic in Instructors and School Owners
First I make and example after talking to their mom or dad. Nothing like a sweep or 2 to break a kids pride and calm him down. Call it picking on them if you want but you must learn respect. NOTE I only do that with kids I want to keep. With ones I dont want to keep I tell them to hit the bricks. Refund if I must but I teach who I want to teach and who wants to learn. If they don't do it my way then its the highway. -
Belt Gradings ... technique quality vs quantity?
G95champ replied to iolair's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sounds like it may be a bit McDojoish. Be careful. We always focus on quality. Keep to the basics and do them well because you won't need or have time to do the facny stuff when they are needed. -
Over this past summer I have learned 3 kata after 4am. because I could not sleep. So more power to ya. However I don't think I ever had any visitors watch me.

We teach the move you are talking about Sai as a knee strike but I too have a book that showes it as a kick instead of a knee as well.
