Best martial Arts movie ever
Menjo replied to mean fighter's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I actually just saw this movie a couple nights ago. Its lengthly but I didn't even notice I was so into the film, defitnaly now in my top fav movies. -
Yes and no, every styles different, and the "principles" that are important like hard work and stuff, were already thought of way back. Thats like saying if I take traditional Tai Chi, to be successful in self defense I MUST go hit the bags every monday. They dont, and depending, it can be successful, yet most MMA consider hitting the bags an important principle. If you had been more specific, I would've understood. These "must be" incorporated principles were already thought of and were either indeed incorporated or not, were due to what the Master had wanted in thier style. Every style says work hard...does this make this principle a MMA principle?... According to this then, you're saying without the NEW made MMA principles, someone would get into serious trouble, putting aside the obvious principles that everyone knows and trains in.

I wouldn't say so, not for Canada anyway...

JJJ vs. BJJ

I'm aware of that, this was not opposing your post. I was agreeing actually, I then wanted to add, just for some thoughts. -
JJJ vs. BJJ
Menjo replied to MMAFan's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
LOL. Its difficult to say however I'll make an attempt. Some people will rely on one technique and forget about the various benefits of practicing other techniques just as hard. Also, there is always someone better...best to have an alternative. I also think that some people may think, "If I become a master at this technique I'll be invincible" right off the bat without any true knowledge of strategy. Ex, In many styles, to develop and preform a strong and effective punch, you need cooperative footwork. I hope thats enough. -
I think this is more to do with a advancement in your training, the weapon may have sparked that interest and the training became more rewarding.

JJJ vs. BJJ

I'd like to add that this can and is often taken in a incorrect way. -
If thats in comparison in what I said, I didn't say that at all, I meant precision, but I guess I shouldn't be so defenseive... What will kind of training do you do to prepare for your tournament coming up?

Now consider this... do you REALLY think that the muscle came from hitting air, or was it the stance training, the repetition of technique, the calesthenics? I have no clue, I have yet to learn much about my training...

There are options, well one I dont think they can cause damage.\ Is it on the wrsit, if so heres some stuff I think I know: If your really really despreate, you can get risky surgry, but you may lose feeling in your hand so its not worth it. I'm sure you know its from a build up of fluid so it should go away eventually from what I know. Too make it go faster, dont hit bags and dont put pressure on your wrist.

In some cases. Yes I know what a fight looks like, but I dont also want to seem like I completly hate the video or style which is unfair. Watch MMA fights and Muay Thai fights, theres strategy, they had seemed to let each other get in close enough without using distance, but this is the style so I dont have a solid ground to judge it right? the agrression we saw in the video is good, but it lacks that something that makes the difference in my opinion. The video was good and the sparring is good and all, just a little side note of my opinion.

Thats a good story, I enjoyed it. Thanks.

Exellent way of saying that!

I'm not impressed with this video. The sparring seemed more like brawling then well coordinated attacks, they also just seemed to through themselves at the opponent. Unless your fighting at a very high level and you know what you're doing, I would consider it brawling, regardless of the techniques being used. Good to watch though .

kinda. flexing muscle can strengthen it to a point - but only to a point. You stop getting stronger when you can no longer contract your muscles harder. then it becomes an endurance exercise. look at guys who train mostly dynamic tension - they are cut, but they are little. Why? because they are building neither mass nor strength (I know the two are not mutually exclusive) they are training muscular endurance. Also, with tension, you are not punching full power - you are punching slowly. The initial argument was against doing kata at full speed and power. Once again I have limited knowledge to argue with, however kata develops explosive power, power will increase with this ability and this "explosion" ability is vital for Karate power. I see 5th dans all the time with incredible power that they have achieved through kata practice... I also disagree with you when you had said that when punching full power you are acutally only punching slowly. I'm entirly sure of what you meant by tension means punching slowly, however with proper technique, tension is only required at the moment of impact...perhaps you knew this, regardless, its important to get that across. Too clear things up and make this discussion easier, perhaps we can give our definition of FULL POWER, perhaps I have a different view than others?
-
Not really, I messed up and used wrong wording however my point is still the same. I hit air full power anyway is what I had meant to say. To be honest I dont think I know very much at all in Martial arts, but I can tell the difference between me building power and not. I have through training I don't understand, therefore I must be doing something right, this is all I have. Unless I havnt and I think I have built any power, this is the only argument I have for this topic. Hitting air in Karate has been developed to build muscles that will effect power in my opinion. Hyperextension is not what I consider a valid argument, I said this before and others have also, if you train properly(including matches) then risk of injury is minimal. I dont see everyone in my class constantly hurting joints everyday and I havnt seen one incident yet with proper technique.
-
Go to it, dont limit yourself with age mental barriers, this condradicts your training...If you train properly and hard and with a proper mindset, you are the only one who can only stop yourself. Its great training anyway. Good luck.

Tae Kwan Do and...

If your are skilled enough, these facts dont have to apply to you. While since it is true that most fights do end up on the ground, its good to have a knowledge of the situation however, its best you know yourself first. Fight your own fight, then consider others with an open minded training strategy(this comes in time I think).
