Technique, if you train properly than a heavy bag or anything like that should work well enough. The equipment you use isnt going to make the ultimate differance. As for breaking bones, like I said before depending on your style, I know shotokan has many techniques to break limbs, so practice those over and over properly and ask your instuctor for help. I hope I answered in the right way...

Because I'm told they develop my technque. I feel they do greatly so I practice kata with great interest. I'm not exactly sure how, but its defitnaly worked for me(practicing kata). I also enjoy it, and it helps me develop many important aspects and ideals of Karate, such as balance, control..ect

The 100% deal is far too Japanese for me. The idea is more tied to culture than reality. I've seen schools (English schools) teach their students in isolation and then release them into the wild with the expectation to perform flawlessly. I've had more than one encounter with a English student (Japanese) who was devastated when they found that they spent all this time learning Engurish then made lots of mistakes. Can only report what I've seen. There are lots of examples in many professions. I dealt with Doctors and Engineers mostly. That's another story. masters didn't get it right 100% of the time.. just more often than the rest of us. Yea I know what you mean. I didn't actually relise I had such a Japanese view on MA. But from what I know, Japan has some of the highest suicide rates in the world, so in most subjects I wouldn't go with that.

I didn't mean to hit so hard... but he asked for it!

Well you may have hurt his ego a little, or not from what it sounds like. But as long as it was light hearted...I think you should have hit him twice. -
I see it differently altogether(for most/all kicks). It ends the situation 80 percent of the time for me without any need for follow up, so really in regards of rating. I dont think its relavant, unless you missed? Well lets say you did miss, someone might say that at least you can do some damage right? But thats not the objective, I simply want to end this persons will to fight. Agaisnt an experianced attacker, and strong yet off target technique may not be enough, thats why there are methods of accuracy and training methods to develop such control over a situation... Now the traditionalist view is that it should work 100percent of the time, yet obviously I'm NOT a master so thats why I said that. If you use it correctly, who cares what amount of power you had. Unless its part of your training I guess. This has completly gotten off course and I realize that so cut me some slack .

HELP ME OUT!
Menjo replied to Dylan.McCullough's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Your the only one that can say if hes right or not. Its depends on the person(If i had a dime every time I said that, and this ). None of these so called facts might be true for you, maybe they are. However, look around for judging and deciding what martial art you want to get involved with. There are plenty of similar questions, so all you have to do read around and decide from there. -
Like said before, everyones going to have some bias, however of course I'd say Shotokan. Shotokan seems to either work very well for someone or completyl not work for them at all. Muay Thai can be overrated however its gottin alot of fame because of its realist approch to "fighting". For what I know of you(which is very very little) I might suggest Ju-jitsu which combines stand up thechniques to get your opponent down and neutralizes the situation depending on your skill and training. Theres no best for street fighting, no best for any category really so look around in your area and check out the various dojos and what looks and sounds best to you. Drop by and talk to whoevers in charge and you can look for some very exellent internet sources for chossing a dojo or right here at KF. Try your options and then perhaps people here can give some more background and tips. Thats all I can say about chosing your dojo.

I agree, if he had some power that would be jaw dropping, but I still think he exercises an awsome degree of control while doing that. If he can make 6 techniques that fast. Im sure he can do one or maybe two with still enough power to drop someone, or even to get down thier guard.

Chuck Liddell's KO power
Menjo replied to UseoForce's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
From my limited knowledge of chuck, I'd guess someone who is tall and able to hit hard and retreat is a strong opponent from him. If I was going to fight him, I'd be looking for a decision win(even though he would have everyones side). -
Does anyone else have a goal in mind?
Menjo replied to tkdan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Through MA i have quite a bit, however my main ones are to learn control and dicipline. And also my complete obsession of prefecting every aspect of Shotokan I know and dont know(even if it kills me). -
I see what you mean, and you hold a strong point. I think like you said though, someone would have to have alot of motivation and dicipline to progress in MA.

To help, maybe you could put an "other" option for the poll.

Chuck Liddell's KO power
Menjo replied to UseoForce's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I'd like to see exactly how he trains, because his training methods obviously must perfect. Plus we'd be able to get a sense of what gives him the certain power over the other many hard-driven MMA. -
Perhaps their MA is considered a weapon MA.
